HRC's lock on Democratic donors and superdelegates certainly deterred others from entering the race for 2016. To this observer, that primary season looked like a coronation.

But it was nothing like the next 4 years will be. HRC in 2014 had little to no influence on downballot Dem primaries. Trump will try to remake the party in his image in 2022.

Eight: Mondale, Dukakis, Dole, Gore, Kerry, Romney, Clinton, Trump. (Losing is apparently better for your health than serving.) Seven of them should take out one of those full-page ads. I know it would just be catnip to both the eighth and his cult, make them dig in deeper, but I'm naive enough to think it might shame a handful of senators a tiny bit. Probably not.
