I apologize, Hadrian.

Patriotic Goiter (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Wednesday, 11 November 2020 15:50 (five years ago)

I heqard a lot of peoplke over the last 4 years thinking that the GOP was shrinking under trump because of hsi lack of outreach and attempt to get new people involved. Is that still a thought? was wondering what the 5age of people thinking the forthcoiming President was illegitimate was a %age of .

I mean everybody's know for 4 years that there like genuinely wasa toally illegitimate eejit in the whitehouse, calling him a bastard might be a little over polite really.

Stevolende, Wednesday, 11 November 2020 15:51 (five years ago)

To all the "they lost the election, they can't do shit" people, I'd like to remind you that lynching is still a thing that happens in this country:

DJP, Wednesday, 11 November 2020 15:52 (five years ago)

I mean, how many people on the left refused to accept the results in 2016? And how much good did that do us?

I seem to remember most people genuinely believing Clinton could have lost in a general election but ymmv.

On average, this critic grades 8.3 points lower than other critics (Eric H.), Wednesday, 11 November 2020 15:52 (five years ago)

This is a lot less about "who controls the government" and a lot more about "what neighbor/stranger is going to decide to murder one or both of my children because AMURICA"

xxxp it's all good Alfred

I'm *not* panicking about this shit, but not because I'm optimistic about this country. The reality is we happen to be alive during the tail end of this empire. It doesn't mean that we can't also try to live rich, full lives and do what we can to forestall it.

Personally I think we're doomed, but I'm also enjoying a cup of coffee and listening to the new Deerhoof and looking forward to playing tennis this afternoon.

early-Woolf semantic prosody (Hadrian VIII), Wednesday, 11 November 2020 15:57 (five years ago)

(lol, I do not mean to suggest we should be perpetuating an empire)

murmurs say that Pence only cancelled his vacation because it got publicly reported that he was on vacation and since there were flight restrictions in place, that "looked bad"

President Trump met with his political and White House advisers on Tuesday to discuss the next steps in his legal strategy, a person familiar with the matter said, and offered no signs he plans to concede the election.

The Oval Office meeting isn't necessarily a surprise, since Trump has done little else aside from speaking with his team and phoning allies about the election since last Tuesday.

In the meeting, Trump appeared content to press ahead for the foreseeable future with his lawsuits and challenges. He hasn't lashed out in ways many around him were expecting in the wake of his loss, the person said.

While this person said Trump has at moments appeared somewhat skeptical of his team's legal efforts, he nonetheless plans to keep going, even as some of his advisers are privately saying the legal strategy has no chance of overturning Biden's win.

Aides and allies to the President continue to be pessimistic about the prospects of the legal effort changing the outcome of the election.

This includes some of those who are publicly stoking the voter fraud narrative, viewing this as more of a political exercise than one that will keep Trump President for another term.

glad this is all amusing to u aides to play SimElection

During a press conference, Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger said 97 of the state's 159 counties have certified their election results.

Raffensperger said the margin between President-elect Joe Biden and President Trump is currently 14,111.

I’m not personally cavalier about people not accepting the outcome of the election. I’m also not cavalier about living in a place where I’m surrounded by people who don’t believe in the coronavirus and are therefore literally endangering me and my family. When I say “Whatever,” what I really mean is you cannot reason with these people or expect them to react differently. All you can do is beat them. And when you do, it’s not worth worrying about their reaction.

Best possible outcome IMO. Let's see how long we can keep him totally distracted and paralyzed with this futile bullshit crusade.

Sullivan wins in Alaska (which was simultaneously called for Trump, finally) so Senate control will come down to the Georgia run-offs in January.

FTR, I have no interest in policing anyone's feelings about all of this shit. It's fucked up, no doubt, and is likely to remain so for some time to come. I just know for me that I have to keep my eyes on the facts as they stand because I know myself and know that if I give in to panic rn, I'm likely to do grievous harm to my health and well-being. I need to focus on what's working in our favor right now to keep myself from drowning in panic.

just a thought about this line of reasoning (common on ilx, and a perennial source of friction among some): of course it's not a good thing to be a worrier, in anyone's experience. of course it's a better thing to grit your teeth, tighten the blood-soaked bandana around your mutilated but still bulging biceps, look at the camera and say "it's high time we stop worrying, and start KICKING SOME ASS!"

it's also not a good thing to be depressed, it's not a good thing to react to MAGA supporters by yelling "fuuuuuck aaaaallll offff yooooooou" as you drive past them, it's not a good thing to hold a 12-minute imaginary debate with stephen miller on meet the press (completely annihilating him and getting invited to replace chuck todd, on-air).

if Red Dawn happens, there are going to be your patrick swayzes and there are going to be your whoever got scared in that movie and never left the bedroom (i haven't seen it). a lot of people, everywhere, have to deal with depression and anxiety and fear and worrying, all the time, and that was before we had to deal with an incompetent group of lizard-brained fascists.

so, yeah, "quit whining and go do something", sure. but go tell that to a depressed person, to their face

@oneposter(✔️) (Karl Malone), Wednesday, 11 November 2020 16:28 (five years ago)

Like step one: Biden will be president in January. There's a whole lot of steps beyond that, and even step one is surrounded on all sides by rabid dogs and fire and people screaming, but my eyes remain trained on that first step.

Some dads are not YOUR dad (Old Lunch), Wednesday, 11 November 2020 16:28 (five years ago)

xp
sorry, i meant to quote tipsy's post just above unperson's. and no disrespect to tipsy or granny, i hope you know! as i mentioned, this comes up all the time. many people have brought it up, many more will

@oneposter(✔️) (Karl Malone), Wednesday, 11 November 2020 16:29 (five years ago)

If anything I'm guilty of displacement. My mom and esp my gf are worriers and I hate witnessing them constantly stressing themselves over stuff that either doesn't materialize or isn't as bad as they've built it up. I def see that same pattern on ILX and wish ppl didn't stress themselves out so much.

A True White Kid that can Jump (Granny Dainger), Wednesday, 11 November 2020 16:30 (five years ago)

some of you act like Captains in WW1 trenches trying to motivate the troops to hop over the trenches into no-mans-land. which is cool, but in 2020, you're also (inadvertently) speaking to many more people who were rejected the from WWI simulation because they were deemed psychically unfit for trench warfare

re: "projection"...maybe there's a better term (?) but sometimes when straining to make sense of the assertive "STOP WORRYING!" posts in thee threads—when I don't in fact feel very worried, just sort of dryly observant—I wonder if the muzzlers aren't fearful of giving oxygen to their own, repressed worries.

We all gotta cope in our own ways, why not just let that happen.

performative and projection are two words that inspire instant eyeroll from me in these threads. binch you can't see inside my brane

'Performative' is such an ambiguous term, too. I assume in most cases it stands for 'this is just a theatrical performance, you don't actually believe what you're saying', but that's just one layer, the other being: language deployed in such a way as to directly alter the social fabric, regardless of whether it matches available empirical data or not. If anything, Trump weds these two meanings together perfectly: he is inauthenticity personified and his every utterance wills pure, unadulterated falsehoods into existence. There's no evidence of widespread voter fraud? No matter, I will sow this seed of doubt into millions of American brains, until it becomes an incontrovertible fact through *my* words, which are the best words.

pomenitul, Wednesday, 11 November 2020 16:40 (five years ago)

In all blunt honesty, I am just barely keeping it together most days. The 'vid shit (and mostly the fact that I won't have seen my family for at least a year) has got me severely down, I'm sleeping like absolute shit, etc. If I don't focus on what's good about the election-related stuff and let what's not good kinda slide to the periphery for the time being, I won't be getting out of bed for the foreseeable future.

these are the people Biden wants to compromise with

A Wisconsin GOP state legislator has already endorsed this idea.

I literally oscillate every day between thinking of ways I would like to bring never-ending pain and torment to Trump, his aides, the GOP, his followers, and thinking about the people I love and care about and how I want to keep it together for them.

I am not worried about results being overturned, I just do not enjoy living in society with delusional brain-dead idiots. I enjoy punching these people.
