a big problem with the future of the universe is that we can expect things to get more complex (law of entropy), while at the same time people prefer things to be simple. there is always going to be a battle between those who recognize the complex truth and those who exploit those who need things to be easy and binary.

i honestly have no idea what is acceptable anymore ... I feel like the biggest differences on ilx are between "idealism vs. pragmatism" along with differences about expressing/handling trauma and anger.

one thing i believe I've learned over nearly twenty (20) years on ilx is that taking aggro or obnoxious people on the internet too seriously is almost always the wrong way to handle the situation, even and especially if it causes the dreaded IRL fight or flight reflex

the latest instance of thousands of people unprovokedly ganging up on to mock what seem like a few perfectly nice people who didn't do anything morally wrong and who just seemed to be talking among themselves for wanting to know beforehand if the book they were reading was going to have a depressing ending

and this is as someone who both reads and writes things with rather bleak endings: who gives a fuck? who is harmed by this? conversely, why is this worth hurting people over, unless you just like hurting people? which more and more it seems most people do
