There was also a very quick concession from Clinton and recognition of the results by the president and congress.

Neanderthal, I'm asking because curious, but you're friends with multiple people who believe this fraud shit?

No judgement, of course, but I just can't imagine being friends with people whose beliefs are so diametrically opposed to my own, and to reality!

― healthy cocaine off perfect butts (the table is the table), Tuesday, November 10, 2020 7:09 AM bookmarkflaglink

they're the siblings/siblings-in-law of one of my close married couple friends. we're friendly but not close.

Half of them I knew were Trumpers (which I assumed to be the brother-in-law brain washing my friend's sister), the other half I had long assumed to be liberals (I guess I was wrong).

and I had no idea they'd believe this fraud nonsense until my friend told me they included him in a FB thread talking about how they were going to win at the Supreme Court. I was shocked.

when one of them piped up that the votes should have been counted early, I piped in politely about why that wasn't possible, and so did the married couple I was visiting (and her sister briefly backed down).

needless to say....I'm glad I don't have to see them very often.

I don’t wanna “both sides” this but there were a lot of pieces written in nov and dec Jan 2016 about how we might overturn the election result (faithless electors etc) and none came to fruition.

― longtime caller, first time listener (man alive), Tuesday, November 10, 2020 8:18 AM bookmarkflaglink

the faithless electors thing actually bothered me a lot because while i would have been happy to not have Trump, I would have been terrified at the future of elections if we returned to the election fuckery of the 19th century. if we were going to get rid of Trump, that was not the way to do it, but I also knew there was zero chance in Hell of it happening, and didn't understand why there were people that actually thought therew as a chance.

but......recall there was also a handful of scientists who suggest Hillary request recount in three states because they felt there were irregularities with exit polls, and Jill Stein is the one who tried to carry it out and it failed in two states and only succeeded in Wisconsin. Most of us said it was a waste of time (me included) - I had some dumb friends who thought there was a shot of changing the results and I told them they were being ridiculous.

also....Hillary had conceded, and the GSA had already released funds to Trump's admin. if you recall, Rick Scott actually began reaching out to Trump for things instead of Obama in December of 2016. the world very much embraced President Trump and he bristled at any attempt to challenge anything.

as usual I would love to be wrong!

Manchin needs to be dragged into a closet and punched in the stomach repeatedly with people wearing brass knuckles until he commits to voting for the removal of filibuster.

or maybe...remove the last part of that sentence.

CNN has pathetically put Scaramucci on air on a regular basis the past few months, but he said something actually worthwhile last night, echoing a post on here a few days ago: that this is just a charade, with the real goal of retiring campaign debt. He said there's explicit language in the stop-fraud e-mails sent out that make it clear contributions can be used for other purposes.

clemenza, Tuesday, 10 November 2020 14:00 (five years ago)

A point which, if they had even a single toe dipped in reality, MAGAnauts might want to ponder: to what extent in the past week (and let's just limit it to a week, although the argument could extend long past that) has their glorious leader done any actual governing of the country he so desperately wants to lead for another four years? Or even spoken about his intentions or mentioned any non-election related issues whatsoever? Why does he want to be president? Why do they want him to be president? Was your dear old dad a grousing nullity as well, Mr. Chud? Do you long to return to those halcyon days of pops drinking himself to death in the garage while he screamed at a lawnmower he disassembled and couldn't put back together?

clem - yes, I linked and quoted the text upthread. I don't think it"s the president"s sole motivation, though.

@oneposter (👍) (sic), Tuesday, 10 November 2020 14:09 (five years ago)

In the spirit of bipartisanship, could Biden appoint Trump to be czar of lib pwnage?

Mr. Cacciatore (Moodles), Tuesday, 10 November 2020 14:10 (five years ago)

(xpost) Sorry, missed that. I hope it's the overriding motivation, if not the only one.

clemenza, Tuesday, 10 November 2020 14:15 (five years ago)

Biden should name Trump Attorney General and then get him confirmed and then fire him on his first day

Mississippi House Rep. Price Wallace: “We need to succeed [sic] from the union and form our own country."

That tweet came in response to Joe Biden and Kamala Harris' victory in the presidential race.

538 is the number of other Nates that Nate Silver had to murder before he was able to establish dominance in front of his staff

is that in response to?

If polls are becoming less accurate—it's not clear they are but leave that aside for a moment—people basically just need to accept that there's more uncertainty. But instead what will happen is that people will just be more confident in their dubious narratives and hot takes.

— Nate Silver (@NateSilver538) November 10, 2020

@oneposter(✔️) (Karl Malone), Tuesday, 10 November 2020 16:19 (five years ago)

people basically just need to accept that there's more uncertainty.

In my line of work, we would look for more reliable data. If I told my execs to "accept that there's more uncertainty" in the future, I would also need to accept more uncertainty of being employed going forward.

Jersey Al (Albert R. Broccoli), Tuesday, 10 November 2020 16:22 (five years ago)

There’s no need to speculate about horrible people Biden will hire to do things he has already hired horrible people (former tech company counsel and government affairs people) for his transition team to do some good old fashioned regulatory capture.

The Bosom Manor Michaelmas Special (silby), Tuesday, 10 November 2020 16:24 (five years ago)

Xp, it's in response to this:

Here's the thing: the reason there's a thing called @FiveThirtyEight is because 538 was the margin in FL when the Republican SCOTUS reversed the 2000 election during a recount, making Dubya the president. That's the kind of margin where races can flip. That's not what's up now.

lol that's not why it's called 538, it's called 538 due to the number of electoral votes.

margin in FL was 537

She is a board member of Procter & Gamble and Dropbox. Whitman was previously president and CEO of Hewlett Packard Enterprise. She was also the CEO of Quibi before its closure in October 2020. Whitman was a senior member of Mitt Romney's presidential campaigns in both 2008 and 2012 and ran for governor of California as a Republican in 2010, but supported Democrats Hillary Clinton in 2016

Put her in charge of ICE.
