"I was standing at a Trump merch stand in rural Pennsylvania the moment the election was called for Joe Biden, interviewing the guys running it. Here's what that was like!"

Let me be clear: I will not vote to pack the courts & I will not vote to end the filibuster. The U.S. Senate is the most deliberative body in the world. It was made so that we work together in a bipartisan way. If you get rid of the filibuster, there's no reason to have a Senate. pic.twitter.com/g0fasdzVmt

If he shortened it by a few lines that would be a solid tweet.

Guess who thinks it's a good tweet as written!

Joe, You have delivered an excellent message for America to Brett Baier. Centrist Democrats can partner with R’s. Too bad there are so few of you.

dumb question but can someone explain why the mood of everyone flipped from "haha trump's impotent attempts at contesting the results have all failed" to "WE'RE ALL DOOMED" this evening? something obviously must have happened but I can't figure out what

this is the closest post to that?

I have had THE FEAR a few times in recent days as the various would-be machinations have unfolded. But it dissipates pretty quickly when I think about what they would have to actually do to try change anything.

Because any shred of optimism or good faith in the last four years has been dragged, stepped on, torn, set on fire and mocked.

1. Most elected or formerly elected Republicans refusing to acknowledge Biden's victory or congratulate the ticket
2. The ramping up of Trump administration attempts to muck up the gears, including denying some needed transition elements
3. The spectre of the Georgia runoffs rising up out of the desert once the high of victory faded and everyone remembered that if we don't get the Senate we're screwed
4. Mitch essentially saying "it's all about Georgia"

At least everyone can get out of the house and hang out with friends to take the edge off in those 70 days.

@oneposter (👍) (sic), Tuesday, 10 November 2020 10:47 (five years ago)

These efforts will fail. McConnell's keeping the temperature raised for the sake of the GA runoffs.

Patriotic Goiter (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Tuesday, 10 November 2020 11:05 (five years ago)

Cn we get a few more of these people out of the house?

Stevolende, Tuesday, 10 November 2020 11:10 (five years ago)

I mean when they start looking into the t crimes they will all be peeling off like flies and going straight to the deepest recesses of the slammer innit. I mean loads of them cos they is all guilty innit

Stevolende, Tuesday, 10 November 2020 11:15 (five years ago)

Trump was barely functional within an existing framework that he had four years to get the hang of. It's not like he's going to suddenly demonstrate competence or unwaveringly accept counsel from a cabal of seasoned coup-meisters. He is flailing. It's what he does. But he loves the taste of libtears, so he'll do what he can for one last quaff of his favorite beverage. Just wish libs weren't so goddamn eager to oblige.

If everyone just makes a big public stink about donating money to the GA runoffs every time the wannabe WH squatter shoots his mouth off, McConnell will start fitting him for a muzzle soon enough.

No judgement, of course, but I just can't imagine being friends with people whose beliefs are so diametrically opposed to my own, and to reality!

There is a near zero percent chance any of this fraud/lawsuit/fascist stuff has any effect on the outcome. I say near zero instead of zero because the one effect it has is the further erosion of norms. Otoh the sooner Dems and those on the left realize there are no norms anymore, the better.

I don’t wanna “both sides” this but there were a lot of pieces written in nov and dec Jan 2016 about how we might overturn the election result (faithless electors etc) and none came to fruition.

There was also a very quick concession from Clinton and recognition of the results by the president and congress.

they're the siblings/siblings-in-law of one of my close married couple friends. we're friendly but not close.

Half of them I knew were Trumpers (which I assumed to be the brother-in-law brain washing my friend's sister), the other half I had long assumed to be liberals (I guess I was wrong).

and I had no idea they'd believe this fraud nonsense until my friend told me they included him in a FB thread talking about how they were going to win at the Supreme Court. I was shocked.

when one of them piped up that the votes should have been counted early, I piped in politely about why that wasn't possible, and so did the married couple I was visiting (and her sister briefly backed down).

needless to say....I'm glad I don't have to see them very often.

the faithless electors thing actually bothered me a lot because while i would have been happy to not have Trump, I would have been terrified at the future of elections if we returned to the election fuckery of the 19th century. if we were going to get rid of Trump, that was not the way to do it, but I also knew there was zero chance in Hell of it happening, and didn't understand why there were people that actually thought therew as a chance.

but......recall there was also a handful of scientists who suggest Hillary request recount in three states because they felt there were irregularities with exit polls, and Jill Stein is the one who tried to carry it out and it failed in two states and only succeeded in Wisconsin. Most of us said it was a waste of time (me included) - I had some dumb friends who thought there was a shot of changing the results and I told them they were being ridiculous.

also....Hillary had conceded, and the GSA had already released funds to Trump's admin. if you recall, Rick Scott actually began reaching out to Trump for things instead of Obama in December of 2016. the world very much embraced President Trump and he bristled at any attempt to challenge anything.

or maybe...remove the last part of that sentence.

CNN has pathetically put Scaramucci on air on a regular basis the past few months, but he said something actually worthwhile last night, echoing a post on here a few days ago: that this is just a charade, with the real goal of retiring campaign debt. He said there's explicit language in the stop-fraud e-mails sent out that make it clear contributions can be used for other purposes.

clemenza, Tuesday, 10 November 2020 14:00 (five years ago)

A point which, if they had even a single toe dipped in reality, MAGAnauts might want to ponder: to what extent in the past week (and let's just limit it to a week, although the argument could extend long past that) has their glorious leader done any actual governing of the country he so desperately wants to lead for another four years? Or even spoken about his intentions or mentioned any non-election related issues whatsoever? Why does he want to be president? Why do they want him to be president? Was your dear old dad a grousing nullity as well, Mr. Chud? Do you long to return to those halcyon days of pops drinking himself to death in the garage while he screamed at a lawnmower he disassembled and couldn't put back together?

(xpost) Sorry, missed that. I hope it's the overriding motivation, if not the only one.
