So what does happen when some local yokel (and whatever level of government ) just refuses to acknowledge Biden?

The only people outside the federal bureaucracy who have to acknowledge Biden are soldiers, no?

Governors and Mayors don't have to accord him anything in particular.

I swear I saw this weekend that there was actually going to be a coronavirus task force briefing today (a WH/Pence one, not Biden's team) for the first time in ages. What happened to that? Now I see Pence is going on vacation.

akm, Monday, 9 November 2020 23:44 (five years ago)

courts aren't going to invalidate 400,000 voters votes after the fact even if there is a semi-compelling concern on methodology. they're going to ask 'where was this lawsuit before Election Day' just like the Texas judge.

it's kind of funny though because it glosses over signature verification which does happen on mailed votes.

"yawn" indeed

"Being down 51-49 could still work if you get a Collins or a Murk to flip"

50-50 works too no? VP as tie breaker.

akm, Monday, 9 November 2020 23:45 (five years ago)

Even assuming anything else they said was true, it's not like they offered two different tracks to different classes of people -- anyone could have voted by mail or in person.

longtime caller, first time listener (man alive), Monday, 9 November 2020 23:45 (five years ago)

If that's the best they got, not much to worry about. By that logic, any differences among polling sites would also be an equal protection violation.

Also, who even has standing to challenge that? Who was harmed? It's not like anyone unfairly *lost* the right to vote as a result of this -- the claim is that the bar for some people was too low.

longtime caller, first time listener (man alive), Monday, 9 November 2020 23:47 (five years ago)

Best Senate hopes are either both Georgia seats, or one Georgia and Tillis in NC (which is not quite called, as NC is still counting)

re: deJoy: Biden can have him investigated though. But also, I'd be surprised if DeJoy wants that job if Trump isn't there. Doesn't he have other shit to do?

Um guys

What is the point of that PA lawsuit? Even if there was "two tiers", you can't know which tier voted for whom.

WASHINGTON (AP) — Barr authorizes DOJ to probe 'substantial allegations' of voting irregularities despite little evidence of fraud.

— Jonathan Lemire (@JonLemire) November 9, 2020

Jersey Al (Albert R. Broccoli), Monday, 9 November 2020 23:54 (five years ago)

In a memo to U.S. attorneys, obtained by The Associated Press, Barr wrote that investigations “may be conducted if there are clear and apparently-credible allegations of irregularities that, if true, could potentially impact the outcome of a federal election in an individual State.”

welp...too bad that is precisely zero of them

Lover of Nixon (or LON for short) (Neanderthal), Monday, 9 November 2020 23:56 (five years ago)

why don't we just impeach Barr, we're gonna fire him anyway but let's make his last few months hell

Trump has found lawyers willing to ask a federal court to disenfranchise *all* Pennsylvania voters.

I am pasting below their request and their signature block.https://t.co/ZABklTV1UH pic.twitter.com/xAMVEisA7K

The basic claim at the heart of Trump’s new PA lawsuit is that mail-in voting *itself* is unconstitutional.

Never mind that we’ve had it for decades.

Never mind that they’d had months to make this argument.

Never mind that it would disenfranchise tens of millions of Americans.

cities would be ablaze within a week if they tried it. remembering that Barr's appointment of an investigator for the Russia Probe resulted in no charges though, yaaaaawn

President Trump is beginning to come to grips with the reality that he will lose the election, a Trump adviser said based on conversations inside the campaign and with the President.

Trump sees a “path to losing,” the adviser said.

He has already begun to discuss with aides the prospect of running in 2024, as CNN reported last week.

Finally - a lawsuit that's not completely frivolous:

Artist Sues Trump’s Border Wall Contractors for Destroying His “Cheese Wall”
Artist Cosimo Cavallaro claims the construction company SLSCO, hired by Trump to fortify the US-Mexico border wall, “willfully destroyed” his sculpture made of Cotija cheese.

With glassy eyes he looked up helplessly at the advisor “Trump... ...lose?”
Now the advisor is getting teary
“Yes sweetie. Trump lose, trump lose...”
