I'm already seeing right-leaning rumblings about the Senate runoffs that indicate, how you say, unease with what he would or wouldn't do -- which kinda makes a lot of the weird reactions of the leadership types in Congress (and Mitch's own notable near silence) make, well, not make SENSE but be vaguely understandable in a "WTF are we going to do exactly?" way.

The only way he leaves office prematurely is if a pardon scheme is feasible. Otherwise he'll probably keep a low profile outside of daily reminders that the election was stolen and a legal challenge is coming at any moment.

Which given that COVID cases are really starting to ramp up (horribly) is...not good.

The obvious problem with jumping through embarrassing hoops for a pardon is that he hasn't been charged with anything, so why would he need a pardon?

I could see him signing off on a covid deal as a last ditch effort to save face, but I could also see that not happening at all.

I submit that Trump saying/doing nothing abt COVID will actually be an improvement over the previous aggressive denials

I am half honestly surprised he hasn't just kept up the rallies but I'm honestly kinda happy given how last week played out. And I hope that stays the case for this week too at least (basically, at least get past some final vote counts for states to achieve in accordance with individual state law, Nevada has to be done by Thursday for instance).

This is definitely part of it, yeah.

100% the reason he hasn’t conceded yet is because he can continue fleecing his followers for cash if he acts like he is putting up a fight. Kind of like how Dems donated huge sums of money to the Biden campaign to be part of the “resistance”... the new “resistance“ is delusional Trump supporters who are ready to give him their life savings if it means there is a prayer that he can somehow win... of course that can’t happen, but that won’t stop him from grabbing all the money he can on his way out.

It creates a symbiosis -- if one is supposed to be suing, one must sue, however flimsily; as cases get dismissed, new ones have to emerge. Problem is when time runs out (per counts, state laws, etc.). There was a comment that the Wisconsin recount they wanted to do costs $3 million and they haven't put up any money for it, so -- performative, at best.

I do wonder what Lindsey Graham has to gain from giving Trump $500k for his legal costs. What is Lindsey buying with that money?

In theory, I have no problem with Trump fleecing his followers straight into the poorhouse. If there was only a surefire means of interception such that he could never get his hands on the money and wound up in the poorhouse right alongside them.

The non-insane media should call a unilateral end to "Trump says he's going to do X" stories, and agree to only run "Trump does X" stories, because he's never gonna do a fucking one of the ten thousand things he says he's gonna do between now and January 20.
