The movies made about this era/administration will be legion, but we won't be in a position to enjoy them for several years at least.

That Four Seasons malarkey was like something from a Boards of Canada album pre-release campaign.

Maresn3st, Saturday, 7 November 2020 22:02 (five years ago)

The press conference set-up in front of the nondescript business storefront made me think of the office-desk-in-the-field visual gag from Monty Python.

henry s, Saturday, 7 November 2020 22:04 (five years ago)

The first tell-all story.

Patriotic Goiter (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Saturday, 7 November 2020 22:05 (five years ago)

Holy shit, I just found out that my sister, who lives in England, has duel citizenship and moved there years ago in no small part because she didn't like the direction the US was going in ... DID NOT VOTE! And she would have voted in/for PA, too. Apparently it was too inconvenient for some stupid reason (something like not having a printer), which is all the more bullshit, since she lives in a place that voted for its own clown and his clownish policies and there is no way she would have skipped *that* vote and so SHE KNOWS BETTER! Grrr. Even worse, I only learned this from my mom, so if I brought it up with my sister it would just be picking a fight when it no longer matters.

Meanwhile, my Australian/US sister in law requested her ballot ASAP, and rather than risk it not making it back in time to VA, she paid an extra $30 for expedited air and delivery confirmation.

So am I right in thinking no one needs to give a shit about Ohio or Florida anymore? That we can just toss them in the red column with Mississippi and move on with our lives?

but also fuck you (unperson), Saturday, 7 November 2020 22:06 (five years ago)

THE OBSERVERS WERE NOT ALLOWED INTO THE COUNTING ROOMS. I WON THE ELECTION, GOT 71,000,000 LEGAL VOTES. BAD THINGS HAPPENED WHICH OUR OBSERVERS WERE NOT ALLOWED TO SEE. NEVER HAPPENED BEFORE. MILLIONS OF MAIL-IN BALLOTS WERE SENT TO PEOPLE WHO NEVER ASKED FOR THEM!

The Dems need to stop giving a shit about converting conservative Cubans in Florida.

Patriotic Goiter (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Saturday, 7 November 2020 22:11 (five years ago)

How do they feel about AOC?

pomenitul, Saturday, 7 November 2020 22:12 (five years ago)

Conservative Cubans? Guess.

Patriotic Goiter (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Saturday, 7 November 2020 22:14 (five years ago)

there were over 8 million Biden voters in Ohio and Florida

Wayne Grotski (symsymsym), Saturday, 7 November 2020 22:15 (five years ago)

This Four Seasons thing is cracking me tf up.

circa1916, Saturday, 7 November 2020 22:16 (five years ago)

i think it's the funniest thing that's happened during the trump presidency

treeship., Saturday, 7 November 2020 22:16 (five years ago)

Alfred, it was a deliberately naïve question on my part. I guess I'm curious about whether there's some amount of unavowable sympathy towards her as a fellow Latin American.

xps

pomenitul, Saturday, 7 November 2020 22:17 (five years ago)

Also - Mississippi is NOT as blood red as one might think. If there were some actual money spent there to organize and to get some real voter registration efforts, you might be surprised.

TrumpPence a Bag (B.L.A.M.), Saturday, 7 November 2020 22:17 (five years ago)

it's the funniest thing because it has no consequences

i believe that (s)he is sincere (forksclovetofu), Saturday, 7 November 2020 22:19 (five years ago)

um, no? And here's why.

Nothing about Ohio in there. To use some corporate jargon I've been encountering lately, I feel like Ohio and Florida are relegating themselves to "nice-to-have" status as opposed to "need-to-have."

but also fuck you (unperson), Saturday, 7 November 2020 22:19 (five years ago)

Florida's way more complex, though I'd like an Ohioan to stand up.

(An ignorant Brit asks): How straightforward would it be to make Washington DC and/or Puerto Rico states? Does it need control of the senate? Ditto for expanding the supreme court.

The Rampaging Goats of Llandudno (Nasty, Brutish & Short), Saturday, 7 November 2020 22:52 (five years ago)

Both require control of the Senate.

Donald Trump Also Sucks, Of Course (milo z), Saturday, 7 November 2020 22:53 (five years ago)

Statehood is a simple majority of both houses of Congress signed by the President - theoretically as easy to pass as any bill.

Donald Trump Also Sucks, Of Course (milo z), Saturday, 7 November 2020 22:55 (five years ago)

every time a democrat has been elected in my lifetime (that i can remember) i’ve been JUBILANT

which is weird because democrats at a national level are usually not that inspiring?

first was clinton. i was a freshman in college. basically nobody could remember having a democrat in office, and clinton was so effortlessly charming, and so young, that we were like THE FUTURE IS OURS. i remember people running up and down the halls of the dorms, shouting.

then obama.

now biden, who of course in normal circs etc but omg

As one of the boots on the ground here, I wish that were true, but I don't see it. It just feels like a 58R/42D state; the Rs are more and more stubborn and recalcitrant, every town's little liberal enclave feels besieged. The Delta is the only reliably blue part of the state imo.

Four Seasons Total Landscaping sounds like what an alt-rock band would call themselves had Sunny Day Real Estate been huge.

Here’s a thing Biden can do on day 1 without senate approval (apparently using executive powers granted under the higher education act that Betsy devos already used to cancel interest during the pandemic).

In four years Trump managed to get impeached and lose the popular vote TWICE by several million. Truly a historic presidency there, pal! Congrats!
