Milo is that dude that when your team wins championship he sits there stone faced and goes "I don't see how they keep this team together next season"

A True White Kid that can Jump (Granny Dainger), Saturday, 7 November 2020 20:27 (five years ago)

What the fuck? Did I just post a quote here?? I might have. Anyway good morning!

Je55e, Saturday, 7 November 2020 20:28 (five years ago)

jammin' joe biden

treeship., Saturday, 7 November 2020 20:28 (five years ago)

milo is otm that biden is a highly imperfect figure at best who has done more to stand in the way of progressive goals, over his career, than further them.

however, defeating trump is a great accomplishment.

treeship., Saturday, 7 November 2020 20:31 (five years ago)

Defeating Trump should be enough to put you in the hall of fame of Progress.

Van Horn Street, Saturday, 7 November 2020 20:36 (five years ago)

I think I'm overdosing on schadenfreude:

https://www.theverge.com/2020/11/7/21552606/trump-twitter-world-leader-public-interest-exception-ends-january-loss

pomenitul, Saturday, 7 November 2020 20:36 (five years ago)

it's a big accomplishment and it's not one that belongs solely to biden.

treeship., Saturday, 7 November 2020 20:37 (five years ago)

lot of people worked to get him over the finish line.

treeship., Saturday, 7 November 2020 20:37 (five years ago)

Or to him at all arguably, did he ever campaign

The Bosom Manor Michaelmas Special (silby), Saturday, 7 November 2020 20:37 (five years ago)

The Onion probably deserves more credit than the actual Joe Biden

The Bosom Manor Michaelmas Special (silby), Saturday, 7 November 2020 20:38 (five years ago)

Relentless cynicism is exhausting.

Bidh boladh a' mhairbh de 'n láimh fhalaimh (dowd), Saturday, 7 November 2020 20:38 (five years ago)

he campaigned. and he debated trump on tv and listened to him trash his dead relatives, i wouldn't want to do that.

treeship., Saturday, 7 November 2020 20:38 (five years ago)

Definitely felt more like a (bare) majority of the country dragging Biden across the finish line than vice versa, but whatever. Immediate goal accomplished.

Focusing too much on Biden's administration or agenda seems kind of a waste of time to me. This is a respite at best, a break in the action. Focus on the Senate, maintaining the House, and strategizing for 2024. Getting elected is the most substantial thing Biden is likely to do, and he did it one way or another.

a man often referred to in the news media as the Duke of Saxony (tipsy mothra), Saturday, 7 November 2020 20:41 (five years ago)

yeah, i mean, no one thinks he is a progressive. the original biden thread called him the senator from citibank. but honestly, as i've said a bunch of times, our civic and cultural life as well as the executive branch of the federal government has been held hostage by a lunatic for four years -- a malevolent person who enjoyed causing as much strife and pain as possible. so you know what? this is a great day.

treeship., Saturday, 7 November 2020 20:46 (five years ago)

say what you want, biden wants to be president, he doesn't want to redefine the position in a way that makes the universe revolve around himself.

treeship., Saturday, 7 November 2020 20:47 (five years ago)

^ treesh otm

the unappreciated charisma of cows (Aimless), Saturday, 7 November 2020 20:47 (five years ago)

I agree! It's a great day. And when I say getting elected is the most substantive thing he'll do, I don't discount that at all. Not many people manage to get elected president.

a man often referred to in the news media as the Duke of Saxony (tipsy mothra), Saturday, 7 November 2020 21:04 (five years ago)

like some other lurkers, I'd like to let you guys know that each month's thread is the spine of my information gathering re: national and world affairs …I do not feel confident that I have much to add of any note in each thread, but in particular feel like Aimless has rather a lot of insight that I"d like to acknowledge.

My daughter was born more or less mid-point between election day '16 and inauguration. Since that time, she has had no knowledge of President Diarrhea, and it is my second most fervent hope that by the time of her fourth birthday in two months, I will know that any knowledge she will have of him and his hideous legacy will occur in the past tense.

My most fervent hope is that my second child, who will be born this Thursday, will enter a world in which his defeat is definitive.
― Je55e, Saturday, 7 November 2020 17:39 (two hours ago) link

my name is Rob Kemp, and I've been a Ilxor since 2006/2007. I lived in NYC for 30 years and moved to CT on Kavanaugh/Blasey ford day …my second child to which I refer in the second line above was born on Thursday; I was with my wife when our daughter entered this world at the hospital on thursday and then throughout the day Friday, but due to COVID surges in the area I cannot be with my wife and my newborn daughter today; they will be discharged tmw and I will take them home then… when I learned today's big ass news, I was on a playground with my first child, who, again, does not know nuthin of President Diarrhea…none of the other parents seemed to care… that my newborn daughter arrived at a time with no definitive result feels at the moment satisfactory…

Congrats on the new baby, VM! And glad that she arrives on the tide of good news. My kids are 12 and 16, and I felt good that the first president they were aware of was Obama. They are both very happy to see the end of Trump.

Congrats USA, now you have a politician for President instead of an arsehole.

🤐

The abusive stepfather comparison is apt. He wasn’t governing; he was tormenting us these past four years. His chaos, his resentment, his love of transgression, division—he forced it on us. It’s the only way he knew how to relate to people.

VG

“Mr Biden, a word for the BBC!?!”

Biden: “BBC? I’m Irish!”

Damn, renouncing his country already, what a traitor

Such a change to see interviews on British television with some intelligent and polite people instead of the dumbass racist and fascistic Trump supporters that we've been constantly seeing over the last 4 years.

So many rust belt diners about to go out of business without NYT expense accounts dropping in.

Love the black cop flashing the victory sign in the video caek posted.

Good to see v. moser.

Not many people manage to get elected president.

Yeah if it was easy a lot more people would do it.

return of the jed clampett (Ye Mad Puffin), Saturday, 7 November 2020 21:39 (five years ago)

I was just listening to the local NPR station, where they were taking calls from people who had been celebrating, crying, literally dancing in the streets. Plus guests, politicians. etc. Then they took a call from a guy who used to be on this station for years, and later served on the election board for several cycles. While he never sounded less than friendly and sociable, he started spouting the "it's a fraud" line, with all the bs about Philly counts and Detroit ballot dumps that were 100% for Biden, and illegitimate state supreme courts run by democrats, and so on. It never got heated, it was just total bullshit. And then more or less the call after that, the final call, a guy just lays it out that any Democrats who thinks the GOP will be the least bit conciliatory or cooperative is totally delusional, then cites the guy spouting conspiracy theories and election fraud nonsense as who we're going to have to deal with in the foreseeable future.

Not hurting my mood at all, but hopefully the incoming administration moves beyond its vision of bipartisan healing and finds some fresh way to face down these assholes.

Anyway, I don't think anyone should underestimate the positive impact of a president whose default is decency and empathy, who is not a bully, who is not cruel and hurtful. It feels great already to have that burden lifted and the only real threat I ever faced from Trump was psychological. But I've been listening to these calls from other people - Muslims, immigrants - whose lives have been directly impacted by his hatred, living each day in fear of what new horror he would impose, and their relief was considerable.

I'm still dying to know what the deal was with Four Seasons Total Landscaping.

There is absolutely no chance that it didn't go:

- Trump announces press conference at Four Seasons
- trumpistas attempt to book Four Seasons hotel and are told to fuck off that facilities were unfortunately unavailable due to a prior booking (for a party of Get Fucked)
- they desperately find another business with Four Seasons in its name within an hour of Philly and give them money to hold a press conference there
- trumpistas arrive at landscapers and discover that they do not have room inside to host a press conference
- set up microphones in the back alley across from the porno shop

@oneposter (✔️) (sic), Saturday, 7 November 2020 21:55 (five years ago)

okay I guess it's also possible that cybersecurity czar Rudy just googled the wrong phone number at step 2

@oneposter (✔️) (sic), Saturday, 7 November 2020 21:56 (five years ago)

they do not make movies like Sister Act anymore (and hopefully Biden will change that)

Wayne Grotski (symsymsym), Saturday, 7 November 2020 21:56 (five years ago)

it's definitely one of those things. the plan was to host the conference at the four seasons hotel, obviously.

The movies made about this era/administration will be legion, but we won't be in a position to enjoy them for several years at least.

henry s, Saturday, 7 November 2020 22:02 (five years ago)

That Four Seasons malarkey was like something from a Boards of Canada album pre-release campaign.

Maresn3st, Saturday, 7 November 2020 22:02 (five years ago)

The press conference set-up in front of the nondescript business storefront made me think of the office-desk-in-the-field visual gag from Monty Python.

The first tell-all story.

Patriotic Goiter (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Saturday, 7 November 2020 22:05 (five years ago)

Holy shit, I just found out that my sister, who lives in England, has duel citizenship and moved there years ago in no small part because she didn't like the direction the US was going in ... DID NOT VOTE! And she would have voted in/for PA, too. Apparently it was too inconvenient for some stupid reason (something like not having a printer), which is all the more bullshit, since she lives in a place that voted for its own clown and his clownish policies and there is no way she would have skipped *that* vote and so SHE KNOWS BETTER! Grrr. Even worse, I only learned this from my mom, so if I brought it up with my sister it would just be picking a fight when it no longer matters.

Meanwhile, my Australian/US sister in law requested her ballot ASAP, and rather than risk it not making it back in time to VA, she paid an extra $30 for expedited air and delivery confirmation.

Josh in Chicago, Saturday, 7 November 2020 22:05 (five years ago)

So am I right in thinking no one needs to give a shit about Ohio or Florida anymore? That we can just toss them in the red column with Mississippi and move on with our lives?

but also fuck you (unperson), Saturday, 7 November 2020 22:06 (five years ago)

THE OBSERVERS WERE NOT ALLOWED INTO THE COUNTING ROOMS. I WON THE ELECTION, GOT 71,000,000 LEGAL VOTES. BAD THINGS HAPPENED WHICH OUR OBSERVERS WERE NOT ALLOWED TO SEE. NEVER HAPPENED BEFORE. MILLIONS OF MAIL-IN BALLOTS WERE SENT TO PEOPLE WHO NEVER ASKED FOR THEM!
