On the plus side, think of all the drinking we're doing

The nation's distillers, brewers, vintners, and beverage importers owe ilx a debt of gratitude.

I don't want to alarm anyone but Biden & Harris are en route to the Chase Center right now at 10:42pm EST.

Vaughn Hillyard has been good on reporting from AZ and from what he says it looks like the election there is going to be very close

Dan S, Saturday, 7 November 2020 03:49 (five years ago)

Apparently Joe isn't making a victory speech, but decided to speak anyway. Hopefully he'll regale us with stories about Corn Pop or something.

Mr. Cacciatore (Moodles), Saturday, 7 November 2020 03:50 (five years ago)

He's just trying not to concede the stage entirely to Trump and his fraud/stolen election narrative. As is sensible.

the unappreciated charisma of cows (Aimless), Saturday, 7 November 2020 03:55 (five years ago)

He's about 7k votes shy of the ~35k recount margin in PA. For some reason I thought he was closer that that and he was about to declare victory.

Jersey Al (Albert R. Broccoli), Saturday, 7 November 2020 03:57 (five years ago)

it's about the duty of care, for all Americans

Dan S, Saturday, 7 November 2020 03:58 (five years ago)

|(Biden votes cast/Total votes cast)-(Trump votes cast/Total votes cast)| <= 0.5% of total votes cast

― Jersey Al (Albert R. Broccoli), Friday, November 6, 2020 9:08 PM (one hour ago) bookmarkflaglink

it's 0.5% in every state?

I'm not a Biden fan, but that was a damn good speech

keen reverberations of twee (collardio gelatinous), Saturday, 7 November 2020 04:03 (five years ago)

I am happy Biden has found a good speechwriter (or team of them) and apparently they work together well. It's going to be an important facet of any success he has as president. Now he needs a superlative team for tweets and social media. Maybe a part time moonlighting gig for AOC?

Oh right, should have done my homework:

PA = 0.5%
GA = 0.5%
NC = 0.5%
AZ = 0.1%
NV = none

NEWS: Along with Trump chief of staff Mark Meadows, at least FOUR other White House aides currently have coronavirus, per sources.

Pains were taken to keep Meadows’ illness a secret, I’m told. And people around him who knew were told to keep quiet.

here needs to be a national standard for processing early votes and mail-in votes as they arrive before the election date

When you don't bother to change the incumbent for three months, taking three days to count the votes is utterly insignificant.

The US could absolutely do with the equivalent of the AEC, though, along with other massive electoral reforms.

Per Current Vote Count:
GA: Trump -4k. Libertarians won 61k

The US could absolutely do with the equivalent of the AEC, though, along with other massive electoral reforms.

Election law is reserved to the states by the constitution. The US federal government could set a national standard, but it would not have the legal power to enforce it, except indirectly, as with so many laws, by threatening, if they don't comply, to revoke funding for something else that states want federal money for.

aiui amendments to the constitution are also made by a consensus of states
