I like knowing that, but these counts are pretty razor thin

sure, but I wouldn't worry about Arizona

Patriotic Goiter (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Saturday, 7 November 2020 02:09 (five years ago)

and for the hundredth time Biden doesn't need AZ in a worst-case scenario

Patriotic Goiter (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Saturday, 7 November 2020 02:09 (five years ago)

but it would be so sweet that the state that to some extent inspired the republican party over the late 20th Century would flip

Dan S, Saturday, 7 November 2020 02:11 (five years ago)

I thought Biden was gonna speak tonight.

but also fuck you (unperson), Saturday, 7 November 2020 02:14 (five years ago)

I'll say it: it's fucking bullshit no major news site will call another race. It's not fucking 1984 when people play by rules. We know where vote accumulation is going. Each day costs the winner a day of preparation for January.

Patriotic Goiter (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Saturday, 7 November 2020 02:17 (five years ago)

enh presumably they can prepare just fine without Wolf Blitzer's say-so

it bangs for thee (Simon H.), Saturday, 7 November 2020 02:18 (five years ago)

Phew, not tonight dear (I can go to bed)

We've learned that Philadelphia will have no further updates on its vote totals tonight.

This may essentially eliminate any realistic chance of a race projection in Pennsylvania tonight. https://t.co/cxxWgKvobr

Biden can do quite a bit of preparation without having networks call it for him. It's not like the Trump administration would suddenly start extending full cooperation if CNN, MSNBC and FOX declared Biden won. You know Trump isn't built like that and he will reject any request for cooperation for as long as possible.

You love to see it

Wow -- highly respected Republican clerk in Michigan (sits on national election board) tees off on Ronna Romney McDaniel. https://t.co/tqAYWC9oHa

Ned Raggett, Saturday, 7 November 2020 02:24 (five years ago)

Maybe it shouldn't, but it amuses me that heavily populated Alaska is one of the six states not called yet. Does this have something to do with snow, or is Palin in charge?

clemenza, Saturday, 7 November 2020 02:25 (five years ago)

something something going poll-to-poll

I liked seeing that rebuke of Ronna Romney McDaniel

Let me reword it then. It's media acting as if it's 1984 and you have to dot ever i. I don't make the claim expecting Trump collaboration.

Patriotic Goiter (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Saturday, 7 November 2020 02:30 (five years ago)

I think media just don’t want to give more ammo to the Trump base and they can only do so by being extra careful.

Van Horn Street, Saturday, 7 November 2020 02:32 (five years ago)

we're past that phase

tell Donald I want him to know it was me

Dan S, Saturday, 7 November 2020 02:44 (five years ago)

It's true enough that for Trump's die hard base the media is and will be fake news, even if all they do is report that each state has certified its voting results and identified its slate of electors, so that the election is officially over. It does suck that it wasn't a landslide and the states that tabulated quickly weren't enough to put Biden over 270.

there needs to be a national standard for processing early votes and mail-in votes as they arrive before the election date

It probably needs a constitutional amendment to allow that.

So many of our current difficulties are based in structures put in place in 1789 when thirteen heterogeneous colonies eyed one another suspiciously and only came together because England could crush them singly at its leisure if they stayed separate. They mostly hated being united and chafed hard at the idea of ceding an inch of power. Hence, this mess of a nation.

Xp ha I thought that may be a factor. Relax and celebrate my friend!

this is not the thread for it but worldometer is reporting 132,540 new cases of coronavirus infection in the US today. That is shocking.

Dan S, Saturday, 7 November 2020 03:08 (five years ago)

I'm having a beer in your honor and blasting some music. Just wanted to say I really appreciate your presence and perspective in these threads, Alfred.

Vaughn Hillyard has been good on reporting from AZ and from what he says it looks like the election there is going to be very close

Dan S, Saturday, 7 November 2020 03:49 (five years ago)

Apparently Joe isn't making a victory speech, but decided to speak anyway. Hopefully he'll regale us with stories about Corn Pop or something.

Mr. Cacciatore (Moodles), Saturday, 7 November 2020 03:50 (five years ago)

He's just trying not to concede the stage entirely to Trump and his fraud/stolen election narrative. As is sensible.

the unappreciated charisma of cows (Aimless), Saturday, 7 November 2020 03:55 (five years ago)

He's about 7k votes shy of the ~35k recount margin in PA. For some reason I thought he was closer that that and he was about to declare victory.

Jersey Al (Albert R. Broccoli), Saturday, 7 November 2020 03:57 (five years ago)

I am happy Biden has found a good speechwriter (or team of them) and apparently they work together well. It's going to be an important facet of any success he has as president. Now he needs a superlative team for tweets and social media. Maybe a part time moonlighting gig for AOC?
