Plus all the bridges and airports that will be named after him.

Omg, Trump President library should be an Escape Room filled with Trump branded bullshit and bric a brac.

I've always said/quoted that Trump will be the first president in history to have fewer things named after him than when he was elected.

Josh in Chicago, Friday, 6 November 2020 17:51 (five years ago)

Oh I'm certain most of his followers are still full-blown ride or die at this point and probably will be at least through Biden's inauguration, but once Trump is out of office and no longer the obsession of the media and facing numerous legal issues and rapidly dwindling finances, etc., I feel like we might start to see the bloom come off the rose a bit. Not that Trumpists won't just park their crazy somewhere else, but still. Sad!

Also the likes of this to look forward to. (And I know this thread hates such stuff.) Will be shot in two separate rooms if it ever happens.

Surely the Trump Library will be at Mar-a-Lago or some other Trump property and will pay an exorbitant amount of rent and feature very highly paid personnel drawn from the Trump family and associates and will be mostly a giant gift shop.

Josh in Chicago, Friday, 6 November 2020 18:20 (five years ago)

Give Trump credit for this and this alone: he is prone to ridiculous boasts, but even though he's never said it out loud he may, in fact, actually be the biggest asshole of all time.

Josh in Chicago, Friday, 6 November 2020 18:21 (five years ago)

xps Simon H.: Standard-Issue Conservatism With Trumpist Characteristics

There just aren't a lot of points where Trump varied from past GOP platforms. His opposition to trade deals with China, and cheap undocumented workers / H1-B visa skilled workers, while a 180° shift from past views of Republican elites, isn't really much of a sacrifice for them.

Worth noting, it was non-DLC Dems who formed the opposition to NAFTA and most favored nation trading status for China (then, on labor rights and environmental grounds). So on the trade issue, Trumpism could be said to draw the GOP towards the non-DLC Dem position. Given how potent an issue this was for Trumpism, I wouldn't mind at all if Dems reconsidered their alignment with the DLC here. Favoring a globalism that forces lower-skill Americans to compete with workers in low-income countries is just a losing issue at the polls.

"The first thing is going to be: Who's left, who's been loyal and who's been competent?” said one Republican close to the White House. “That's going to be the first criteria. Who's been loyal and who's competent.”

I applaud this newfound interest in competence. Alas, too little, too late.

Am gratified that it looks like Carter will outlive Trump's presidency.

Sources close to the White House said some senior officials inside the White House and the campaign are beginning to quietly back away from Trump, in acts of self-preservation, as the returns in Pennsylvania and Georgia indicate the President will not win reelection. https://t.co/Pi50hRjavO
