Ned Raggett, Friday, 6 November 2020 16:09 (five years ago)

this is a great day for the country

Half the country voted for Trump. Don't forget that.

DJP, Friday, 6 November 2020 16:10 (five years ago)

i definitely won't forget it. i can't escape it.

real muthaphuckkin jeez (crüt), Friday, 6 November 2020 16:10 (five years ago)

i didn't say everything was awesome now. but this is still a great day.

treeship., Friday, 6 November 2020 16:11 (five years ago)

Why is everyone excited? I heard that once you throw out the illegal ballots and only count the legal ones Trump will win easily.

justfanoe (Greg Fanoe), Friday, 6 November 2020 16:11 (five years ago)

Fox calling AZ on Tuesday night in retrospect really was a kinda key psychological moment, and that call playing out? Amazing.

Ned Raggett, Friday, 6 November 2020 16:11 (five years ago)

Pinned post for US politics thread for ever.

Alba, Friday, 6 November 2020 16:12 (five years ago)

it's time to get rid of the lunatic who has hijacked our entire society for four years. he was like the child-demon in ubik, assimilating anything and everything into himself. now we don't have that problem so we can work on others.

treeship., Friday, 6 November 2020 16:13 (five years ago)

I mean rhetorically yes but 74 million vs 70 million is not a nothing margin

The horror still stands tho

The Tea Party existed before Donald Trump became President. Don't pretend this all goes away once he's out of office.

DJP, Friday, 6 November 2020 16:16 (five years ago)

who is pretending that?

treeship., Friday, 6 November 2020 16:16 (five years ago)

Just keep it as an axiomatic baseline.

Ned Raggett, Friday, 6 November 2020 16:17 (five years ago)

oh it's not going away once he's out BUT not having Donald Trump on TV saying insane shit all the time is gonna have a very real impact

frogbs, Friday, 6 November 2020 16:17 (five years ago)

Who knew this gremlin would be the first to throw in the towel?

Kudlow on CNBC: "This is the greatest democracy in the world, and we abide by the rule of law, and so will this president."

"I think there will be a peaceful transfer of power."

Ned Raggett, Friday, 6 November 2020 16:17 (five years ago)

yeah ngl I’m pretty shook that he improved his totals, and made inroads into non-white and college-educated white women demos.

It’s a great day for the rest of the world.

Van Horn Street, Friday, 6 November 2020 16:19 (five years ago)

I don't really like an America where "non-college whites" are the key coalition demographic but what can I do

all cats are beautiful (silby), Friday, 6 November 2020 16:20 (five years ago)

I mean, he’ll still be on tv not shutting the fuck up, but at least he won’t be doing it from the office of President ffs

A-B-C. A-Always, B-Be, C-Chooglin (will), Friday, 6 November 2020 16:20 (five years ago)

It's not that all those voters liked Trump, it's that they just really hated that radical socialist firebrand bomb thrower Joe Biden.

Josh in Chicago, Friday, 6 November 2020 16:21 (five years ago)

I don’t think he’ll recover, mentaly speaking.

Van Horn Street, Friday, 6 November 2020 16:21 (five years ago)

i share the pessimistic and painful spirit of realism intended in that point, but I think it's worth emphasizing now and forever that LESS than half of America voted for Donald Turnip in 2020 AND in 2016

Fuck the NRA (ulysses), Friday, 6 November 2020 16:21 (five years ago)

"Whoa whoa whoa..."

Rick Santorum on CNN literally saying "Democrats need to give Republicans, including Trump, time and space to work through their feelings about losing." #ElectionResults2020

Trump will got the route of that guy in Errol Morris's "Mr. Death," so consumed by arrogance and the need for praise that he just gets crazier and crazier for smaller and smaller numbers of people. (I hope.)

Josh in Chicago, Friday, 6 November 2020 16:23 (five years ago)

so its officially been called by business insider

Muswell Hillbilly Elegy (President Keyes), Friday, 6 November 2020 16:26 (five years ago)

At the risk of hopeless pedanticism, the current estimate is that one-third of eligible/registered voters didn't vote at all this year. Given the stories that there were a lot of first-time voters on both sides this year -- that Trump and the reaction to him did absolutely drive up the numbers -- one has to wonder what, if anything, could actually drive that number higher.

Ned Raggett, Friday, 6 November 2020 16:27 (five years ago)

worth noting that there are still 3.5 million votes that haven't been counted yet in California, and if they reflect the count received so far, Biden will have won the election by ~6 million, which is like 52% of the vote

Anyway, Clark in Nevada to report numbers in half an hour and that should be the coup de grace.

xp Latter should please Trump and Bannon by time next election comes around.

Dan Worsley, Friday, 6 November 2020 16:31 (five years ago)

So I’m the only one thinking there’s going to be armed showdowns in PA and Michigan this weekend?

Yeah this seems much like 2018, where the drawn-out nature of it obscures the actual final result. Very good chance that this will not in fact be a historically close election.
