just curious where this comparison to other developed countries is going to "get us" in your thinking ... are we to be looking to them for inspiration or technical guidance?

"Well that isn't the way it works"

"Well it's how it should work that matters!"

and I just really want to figure out if we can get things to work the way they should work and how that can be done, because otherwise it's just kinda depressing.

Accepting the Democratic Party (on the whole) as left-wing instead of centre-right is to accept the far-right and active fascists' framing and Overton moving.

ATTENTION: There is no official go fund me page for Loren Culp campaign as of this time. He is still a candidate and there is a legality. Please patiently wait for the next update.
Thank you, appreciate you all 🇺🇸

Insofar as ILX is not an organizing space or in any way meaningful - nowhere.

The rest of the world shows us that nationalized healthcare works, better labor laws work, you don't have to spend all of your money on fossil fuel subsidies and F-35s, you can have quality public housing. If you argue that Democrats are "center-left" (or even "left") means that you have to write off all of that as a possibility - that the default of deficit hawking, shitty, overpriced healthcare and forever war is the best we're getting.

Donald Trump Also Sucks, Of Course (milo z), Friday, 6 November 2020 00:39 (five years ago)

Also what does “center-right” actually mean to people

DJP, Friday, 6 November 2020 00:40 (five years ago)

i appreciate your read on this but we literally have to not be in this place if we want some kind of sane future for humanity.

Absolutely agree.

Anyway, I know this all just another iteration of the eternal idealist-vs-pragmatist argument, and I've been on both sides of that and more or less identify as an idealistic pragmatist. I see the very real political value in left-wing activism, because it pulls and pushes things that need to be pulled and pushed. I also see the limitations in it, and I most value people who can actually get things done, whether they're working inside or outside any given system.

Folks, Biden just managed to net votes out of mail-in ballots in *Forsyth*, which is a massively red county that Trump is winning by 34% overall.

It's also Georgia's red county with the biggest number of ballots left. And yet Biden won this batch by 5%. Mail is very blue indeed.

Start with one universal program that can be seen and felt in everyone's life - like socialized healthcare.

If you guys get your COVID shit together, Canada would be happy to sponsor the “injure a Trumper” program, where we bring Trump voters up here, wound them, and then have them treated in our commie hospitals.

Might shift a few viewpoints!

(disclaimer: cannot guarantee that all injuries will be non-fatal)

Many of those Americans can be gotten to agree if you explain how these policies serve their own interest.

No socialist platform will work in South Florida. I just signed up to commit myself to how the fucking disastrous Democratic Party in Florida can sell the ACA as an awesome thing to the people most dependent on it.

In other words: the messaging is easy if you work on understanding these discrete communities.

i haven't seen anybody actually opine that AZ is destined for Trump. pretty sure we'd have seen a retraction by either AP or Fox (maybe not both), and it appears that Trump's current pace is enough to win the state, but it's a fairly thin pace that could easily fall off with a new Biden-favoring dumps

Lover of Nixon (or LON for short) (Neanderthal), Friday, 6 November 2020 00:54 (five years ago)

Biden's national popular vote lead just surpassed 4 million (2.8%), per @CookPolitical's presidential vote tracker: https://t.co/9dMmSHHdVa?
