Dan S, Thursday, 5 November 2020 15:31 (five years ago)

If requested.

Josh in Chicago, Thursday, 5 November 2020 15:33 (five years ago)

if it's that close though I would think whoever is on the losing side is going to request it

Dan S, Thursday, 5 November 2020 15:34 (five years ago)

so eating pizza with utensils isn't bad enough to get you mocked forever anymore

someone really should have a chart on the ever-fluctuating ways it is and is not acceptable to morally neutrally eat food

And here I thought the relentless text messages from political orgs that think I still live in Georgia were over.

I have always eaten pizza with utensils and I did so on Election Night.

is the Oregon drug ballot measure one of those "nice but about to be immediately overturned by some other legal force" things? we're all going to need more drugs in the future

it bangs for thee (Simon H.), Thursday, 5 November 2020 15:37 (five years ago)

referring specifically to when pete ate pizza with utensils and everyone immediately savaged him for this unpardonable offense, despite eating pizza with utensils being a thing that is done by many people, not all of whom are Bad(tm)

Passing Measure 110 means Oregon residents no longer can be arrested or imprisoned for possessing small amounts of substances such as heroin, cocaine, methamphetamine or LSD. That doesn't mean the drugs are legal. Instead, the measure reduces the offense to a noncriminal offense and a maximum fine of $100 and mandates establishing an addiction treatment program funded in part by taxes from marijuana sales.

howls of non-specificity (sleeve), Thursday, 5 November 2020 15:43 (five years ago)

sure, but other people who eat pizza with utensils see this and are now afraid to eat in front of other people

like, I’m eating an elephant head (katherine), Thursday, 5 November 2020 15:43 (five years ago)

it would just be nice if people's morals were based on something other than "is this cringe y/n"

New Ralston update

T-minus two hours until new numbers supposed to be released in Nevada, where Joe Biden has a 7,500-vote lead.

Would you like a thread on what to expect at 9 AM on the best coast?

I thought you might.

Let me walk you through it.

that 10,000 voter lawsuit is nonsense. they can't possibly know that 10,000 people voted illegally, so they probably found out that there are 10000 people on the voter rolls that don't live there anymore (which happens in every state) and assuming each one of them voted

fucking morons.

Allegheny County, PA still has 35,413 uncounted mail-in ballots, but elections staff is taking today off for "administrative work" and will not resume count until Friday. "I can't get an answer as to why,'' says @bethanyhallam, a member of county elections board.

— Trip Gabriel (@tripgabriel) November 5, 2020

Sure guys, just go get your other shit done quick and come back whenever you're ready. No one is waiting, it's fine.

soaring skrrrtpeggios (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Thursday, 5 November 2020 15:55 (five years ago)

don't understand that at all given that you don't have to live there. you can vote absentee.

xpost

Li'l Brexit (Tracer Hand), Thursday, 5 November 2020 15:55 (five years ago)

or just vote there if you're rolling through, whatever.

Li'l Brexit (Tracer Hand), Thursday, 5 November 2020 15:56 (five years ago)

That Allegheny thing has been addressed:

Not just a day off. 29k of 35k left can't be legally counted until Fri. due to court order. 29k are replacement ballots bc a contracted company delivered wrong ballots last month. Election return board HAS to legally meet tmrw before counting can resume https://t.co/1tvsWBlZiC

— Ryan Deto (@RyanDeto) November 5, 2020

Ned Raggett, Thursday, 5 November 2020 15:59 (five years ago)

🚨Allegheny County counting update🚨

Most 35k mail-ins to be counted are the 29k ballots that can't be legally counted until Friday. No mail-in ballot counting today.

But, 6 in person precincts will be tabulated in Braddock Hills, Homestead, Pittsburgh (2), Shaler & Whitehall

— Ryan Deto (@RyanDeto) November 5, 2020

Ned Raggett, Thursday, 5 November 2020 15:59 (five years ago)

I think that means 6K

howls of non-specificity (sleeve), Thursday, 5 November 2020 16:01 (five years ago)

isn't allegheny likely trumpier than most of the outstanding vote?

la table sur la table (voodoo chili), Thursday, 5 November 2020 16:04 (five years ago)

biden’s gonna win nv btw

mellon collie and the infinite bradness (BradNelson), Thursday, 5 November 2020 16:07 (five years ago)

Indications are that Biden's been holding steady in PA mail voting around 77-78% consistently. Just because the county itself may be Trumpier doesn't mean those Biden who were there didn't vote, I'd guess.

Ned Raggett, Thursday, 5 November 2020 16:08 (five years ago)

Also, when it comes to PA provisional voting:

This, uh, seems important, regarding Pennsylvania https://t.co/fIIdhn8W7x pic.twitter.com/bluotYRzas

The main point of that lawsuit is to initiate a lawsuit, allowing the possibility of court orders, buying time to maneuver and possibly gaining some advantage. Politically speaking, it gives Trump a talking point he can distort into "election stealing" and whip up chanting crowds of morons who might intimidate judges, or give a partisan judge some cover for making a favorable decision. The merits of the case are the least concern of Trump's lawyers right now.

Lotta confusion between counted and reported votes in GA, but

GEORGIA: Trump +18,556 statewide.

In Fulton Co there are 140k outstanding ballots. We will know results soon. Currently there Biden has 73% of the vote.

If that trend continues, he earns approx 102k votes from Fulton, putting him +80k statewide with less than 50k to count.

Yeah I'm not sweating this too much. May be a closer margin than desired but even so.

The main point of that lawsuit is to initiate a lawsuit, allowing the possibility of court orders, buying time to maneuver and possibly gaining some advantage.

Most of the NV GOP attempts to do this have been thoroughly laughed at, ruled against, no immediate injunctions etc. All they got last week/earlier this week was a request for Clark County to clarify various procedures but that they didn't have to do that right now since they were kinda busy.

Ned Raggett, Thursday, 5 November 2020 16:11 (five years ago)

Basically, nothing has actually STOPPED the count. Similarly elsewhere.

Ned Raggett, Thursday, 5 November 2020 16:12 (five years ago)

Most of the NV GOP attempts to do this have been thoroughly laughed at, ruled against, no immediate injunctions etc.

Lawyers whose client insist on paying them billable hours to do fool's errands are usually quite willing to comply. Trump is notoriously litigious and he is driving this lawsuit strategy. Also, he's desperate to stay in office, where he is safe.

Meantime, on the retrospective prediction front, this guy's pretty good -- note the thread is from Monday, and include the map at the end:

Here's my #Election2020 5 things to know (maps at end)

1. DJT will win FL
As I've noted to @SeanTrende ppl confuse small margins for uncertain outcomes. DJT will lose Pinellas but D weakness in Miami Dade will bolster very narrow win

2. Biden will shock us all & win GA

Has anyone else experienced being told by a news person on your TV set that his campaign is filing lawsuits all over the map, without a word said about the GROUNDS for such lawsuits?

Second question: how does that inform anyone?

— Jay Rosen (@jayrosen_nyu) November 5, 2020

^^ I keep coming back to this, it's so annoying that media still fall for the 'omg lawsuits!' without backing up if it is even remotely credible.

also fuck this creul world

In Derry, N.H., a bit of hand sanitizer briefly gummed up a ballot reader on Election Day.
Until this year, for instance, “hand sanitizer was never a thing at a polling place,” said Tina Guilford, an election official in Derry, where just over 18,000 people voted. The ballot that jammed the machine was ultimately hand counted, she noted, and the ballot reader was taken out of service.
