lol nah, the Silicon Valley overlords would buy the city-states lock, stock and barrel

Donald Trump Also Sucks, Of Course (milo z), Thursday, 5 November 2020 04:25 (five years ago)

Anyway who says I’m not celebrating

all cats are beautiful (silby), Thursday, 5 November 2020 04:25 (five years ago)

I know pointing out hypocrisy doesn't actually do anything but it is still very irritating to see "originalists" make the simultaneous argument that the Founding Fathers intended the franchise only for people who signed a piece of paper in the certain spot and inserted it into another piece of paper in a certain way

like, I’m eating an elephant head (katherine), Thursday, 5 November 2020 04:25 (five years ago)

Political age limits. Generals are forced to retire at 65, should be the same with anyone in Congress or the White House.

now do journalists / op-ed columnists

it bangs for thee (Simon H.), Thursday, 5 November 2020 04:26 (five years ago)

Ideally city states will provide full employment working for the city, and send robots to bulldoze and farm the suburbs

― all cats are beautiful (silby), Wednesday, November 4, 2020 8:22 PM (one minute ago)

I think the suburbs might have functionality for security outposts though? Also, if we are converting them to farmland, the farm workers would need housing near work, so we should keep some of the houses too. All the big box retail stores would be useful for conversion to storage for emergency food supplies etc.

sarahell, Thursday, 5 November 2020 04:26 (five years ago)

We could just abolish op-eds and columnists completely.

Donald Trump Also Sucks, Of Course (milo z), Thursday, 5 November 2020 04:27 (five years ago)

They can write reviews for Pitchfork or something instead. Apparently David Brooks is into soundcloud rap.

Donald Trump Also Sucks, Of Course (milo z), Thursday, 5 November 2020 04:27 (five years ago)

It's also good to have remote areas for manufacturing that involves hazardous materials -- so some of the suburban office parks could be utilized for manufacturing. The Tesla plants are in decent locations for this.

sarahell, Thursday, 5 November 2020 04:28 (five years ago)

Y'all planning to build armored monorails between the city-states? The rubes have .50 Cals.

Donald Trump Also Sucks, Of Course (milo z), Thursday, 5 November 2020 04:30 (five years ago)

Ha yes Katherine otm. You know they wouldn't give a shit when ballots were received or if they were filled out correctly if counting all them benefited Trump. Thought the same thing about birtherism: even if it was true, who truly gives a shit about some technicality.

A True White Kid that can Jump (Granny Dainger), Thursday, 5 November 2020 04:31 (five years ago)

If the situation was reversed and counting ballots would likely keep Trump in office, would you stand fast to your principles?

Donald Trump Also Sucks, Of Course (milo z), Thursday, 5 November 2020 04:32 (five years ago)

Trump won Michigan, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin (and the presidency) by a combined 77,744 votes in 2016.

At this rate, Biden is on track to finish ahead by more than that in each of Michigan and Pennsylvania.

Josh in Chicago, Thursday, 5 November 2020 04:32 (five years ago)

That Politico article comparing Trump to Julius Caesar makes its points by distorting and eliding a hell of a lot of history. It doesn't mention Sulla, or Pompey the Great, or Crassus, or the triumvirates. iow, it ignores a ton of stuff that doesn't fit into its neat, oversimplified, nonsensical version of Roman history in order to make a cheap, totally worthless parallel that really tells us nothing of value about the USA, Julius Caesar, or ancient Rome. Sorry, as history or analysis it's a piece of crap.

catching up on the past 24 hours or so...not reading this fuckin thread so apologies if i'm repeating anything.

saw this chart which, i know, betting markets are silly, but it does pretty much capture what the night (and 2016) felt like for me.

A True White Kid that can Jump (Granny Dainger), Thursday, 5 November 2020 04:33 (five years ago)

xp -- given that we don't actually know what's on the ballots and in many cases they haven't been as blue as predicted, yes, I'd think so?

like, I’m eating an elephant head (katherine), Thursday, 5 November 2020 04:34 (five years ago)

If my candidate was up and there could be a plausible case to stop the count and ensure a win for them, fuck yeah I'm stopping the count.

xp -- sure, if you could be assured that stopping the count would actually work and not produce any backlash that makes things worse. which, if your opposition is republicans, is a lot to be assured of

like, I’m eating an elephant head (katherine), Thursday, 5 November 2020 04:38 (five years ago)

No national political development seems likely to matter more in the next four years than keeping up the pressure on city councils to bring their out of control so-called law enforcement officers to heel

Time from Caesar to fall of Rome was longer than the entire American existence to date xp. Fuck guess we’re in our last 400 years.

Another big Fulton County vote count update:
27.8K votes just got counted
Trump: 5,683
Biden: 22,118
That's a net gain of 16,435 for Biden

— Brendan Keefe (@BrendanKeefe) November 5, 2020

it is looking like Biden will just barely squeak out Georgia

lol

"All votes should be counted in any election" is a pretty low bar for being "principled". Why am I not surprised milo is a cheater.

Donald Trump Also Sucks, Of Course (milo z), Thursday, 5 November 2020 04:44 (five years ago)

In my benchmarks, Biden needed to win Montgomery Co. by 23.0% to carry PA. He's currently up by 25.6%.

Biden needed to lose Lebanon Co. by less than 35.0%. He's down there by only 32.1%. Northampton Co. -3.0%, +0.4%.

This is a pretty consistent picture across the state.

According to CNN:

-Approx. 99,000 votes to go.
-Biden needs around 55% of those.
-Biden’s average for the votes that have been coming in tonight is around 70%.

We’re gonna do it, Georgia

I think we might need to be more specific about where the city-states are and where the rubes are ... like, we need to figure out borders and stuff

The Austin Walled City extends around Round Rock and San Marcos, but they’re going to need secure transportation to the Republic of San Antonio.

Donald Trump Also Sucks, Of Course (milo z), Thursday, 5 November 2020 05:04 (five years ago)

We definitely need to figure out infrastructure vis a vis Illinois and Minnesota ... or would we get some kinda easement from Canada ?

sarahell, Thursday, 5 November 2020 05:04 (five years ago)

Walls follow the gerrymander lines.

The rubes are going to both build and pay for the wall.
