You know now that I think about it, if (if) Fox and the AP have called for all of Biden's other states at this point, theoretically with their Arizona call they should be saying Biden's won. But again, maybe they've not yet called everything else.

- finally, I agree with the sentiments about local politics, and am proud to live in the city in which I was born and raised, despite the fact that it has the shittiest infrastructure and contains levels of grime that makes New Yorkers blush.

Fox has Biden with 264 electoral votes, according to the tracker. But no one has called Nevada yet, which would bring Biden to 270.

Xpost to map, glad you had a good time in Philly. It's a hard town, with a lot of fucked up stuff going on in it, but it also still feels like a real city instead of an extension of a combo Citibank-condominium-spa. Also, a ton of green space that really isn't utilized as much as it could be!

It just struck me that we talk about intersectionalism when considering left issues A LOT but never about how it pans out for those on the right. If POC are voting GOP it’ll be down to social conservatism, misogyny, religious views, militarism/law’n’order and a lot of other determining factors which aren’t race.

Suzy otm, there is and has been tons of sexism being passed around in Republican/NRA circles/email forwards etc. My dad, a normally good person and a super responsible gun owner, is kind of a single issue Republican voter. He knows Trump is a shitty person and is not bought into the cult, and yet he has voted for him twice. He long ago bought into anything the NRA is selling in terms of political perspectives, and unfortunately he also bought into the rampant sexism against women in power. They used it to great effect against Hillary, but they had decades for it to sink in before they needed to cash it in. They have been trying to do it with Harris now but it’s not enough to tip the scales. He said something to me about thinking she is a socialist “witch” and if Biden dies in office he can’t imagine what it would be like if she was president. It’s pure sexism and it’s disgusting as hell but it’s how these people think.

yes 264 is including AZ. however, Nevada seems likely Biden based on comments from the Nates (that the votes left are mail/provisional in Clark and should bend Democrat). since that vote has largely not been released, networks have wisely not called that race because you have to see some of it unfold first. but i think NV will go Biden

suzy, perfect example for you: outside the papi store near my house (it's a Puerto Rican deli, called 'papi stories' in local parlance) a few years ago, there was a PSA poster about using PrEP or condoms that featured two young Black men on it. I was walking the dog and while she was sniffing something I heard one Black guy telling another that "little kids walk by this f***ot shit all the time, this shit ain't right, they're trying to force their ideas of equality on us." The next day the poster had been torn down, and nothing has been put up since.

That accusations of homophobia are often leveled against non-white people in a truly despicable and racist way is true, but that conversation was troubling for me, especially because such homophobia is part and parcel of a white supremacist agenda. So were those guys being shitty? Fuck yeah. But what caused those shitty values to take hold in them? In my mind, some of what you're talking about requires asking people where those values arrive from, and then helping them make the connection that what's hurting them is hurting me is hurting all of us.
