i agree w map that it feels like dems need a more transactional politics. i.e. what democrats used to do. hand people jobs, benefits, and remind them who gave them to them. and eh probably be a bit strategic about who benefits.

@Moodles: AP also called Arizona. As Ned posted way upthread, AP and Fox use different data than the other organizations, which explains the discrepancy. I believe the incorrect report about the percentage of ballots counted came after the AP/Fox calls and did not affect them.

jaymc, Wednesday, 4 November 2020 21:18 (five years ago)

Agree with you that I'd feel a lot more comfortable if the other decision desks also made that call. Seems like we'll have a better idea tonight.

this is done, it's just a matter of how long it takes for everyone to realize it. if NV says something tonight we're safe, no?

akm, Wednesday, 4 November 2020 21:22 (five years ago)

That Rentals' keyboardist winning a Republican seat in the Iowa House tweet seems joke-y but is in fact, true... 2020 is a trip.

She apparently collected Moogs and that was her intro to join The Rentals.

Jersey Al (Albert R. Broccoli), Wednesday, 4 November 2020 21:24 (five years ago)

NV not due to fully report until tomorrow. Certainly very likely per Ralston but not fully settled quite yet.

xp Yeah, she's the one playing the Moog in the "Friends of P" video.

Just from looking at CNN's county results election widget, I think there is a good chance Biden wins GA and a decent chance he wins PA.

So I just want to say, and I know we’re not quite through this yet, but this thread and everyone in it has been a huge comfort to me, both yesterday and today. We’ve gone through ups and downs, but everyone here has been really great and I feel like we’re all going through this together. Thank you for helping me stay anchored. <3

And when the race is called, will there be a huge ilx zoom chat? Whether it’s to celebrate or commiserate, I feel like it would be needed. I’m totally in either way.

epistantophus, Wednesday, 4 November 2020 21:38 (five years ago)

I really appreciate all the people taking the time and making the effort to give updates and perspectives. Really, holy cow, what a community, thank you.

I'm not breathing easy for a good while, but kind of in that sense that after a long run you have to walk your heart rate down.

If all Biden wanted was to win back the upper Midwest and Pennsylvania and spent millions for this purpose, he has succeeded.

Patriotic Goiter (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Wednesday, 4 November 2020 21:50 (five years ago)

yeah. i mean the democrats need to do way better, find something to campaign on for starters, but i'm cautiously impressed with how things are shaking down.

and this for me personally feels so crucial:

I CAN’T BELIEVE WE’RE FINALLY GOING TO GET RID OF THIS MOTHERFUCKER

i can't overstate how damaging it has been to my psyche to have this mf as president

Give me a Chad Smith-type feel (map), Wednesday, 4 November 2020 21:53 (five years ago)

hell, if he flips Georgia and Arizona holds, that's more than I expected.

Patriotic Goiter (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Wednesday, 4 November 2020 21:53 (five years ago)

Yeah:

I know it's "off brand" for me. But, like, I really don't think Dems "screwed up" the election. Biden ran a campaign specifically targeted a flipping a few white college educate Republicans and some rural voters, while hope Black people and Latinos did all the other things.

— Elie Mystal (@ElieNYC) November 4, 2020

I think it may end up having been the right play for this election. But it doesn't give one hope for the strength of the coalition.

jaymc, Wednesday, 4 November 2020 21:55 (five years ago)

Did the Trump campaign pull back on their spending toward the end of the campaign specifically so they could have enough money left over to be able to litigate results and pay for recounts? Or did he beg one last loan from Deutsche Bank?

epistantophus, Wednesday, 4 November 2020 21:55 (five years ago)

I think Nevada said they were going to give some more results tonight, to sate curiosity.

Josh in Chicago, Wednesday, 4 November 2020 21:56 (five years ago)

NYT has michigan for biden and they have been slower than AP to turn states red or blue

superdeep borehole (harbl), Wednesday, 4 November 2020 21:56 (five years ago)

The Biden campaign has exorcised a demon from 2016 by taking the Upper Midwest / rust belt seriously, to good effect. All his folksy Scrantonite stuff worked (combined with Trump fatigue).

The strong showing in the southwest (NV, AZ, NM) is heartening as well.

I harbored some hope for cracking the south a bit (NC, GA, TX would have been lovely) but that was always - to my mind - gravy.

didgeridon't (Ye Mad Puffin), Wednesday, 4 November 2020 21:57 (five years ago)

Reuters and NYT have called Michigan. That’s good enough for me.
