So this is the perfect opportunity for Biden to demonstrate his genius for working across the aisle, right? RIGHT?!?

Mr. Cacciatore (Moodles), Wednesday, 4 November 2020 15:21 (five years ago)

maybe by 2024 Kanye will figure out how to actually get his name on a ballot

akm, Wednesday, 4 November 2020 15:22 (five years ago)

Yes (xp to akm). My South American family immigrated, and keeps immigrating, to the USA to make money. They were anti-Indigenous, anti-Black racists in South American, and they're the same in the USA. There's no intersectionality. They're...Americans.

All cars are bad (Euler), Wednesday, 4 November 2020 15:23 (five years ago)

yeah I suspect there will be a lot of folks in Joe’s admin who are secretly very glad that the Senate likely remains in GOP hands

A-B-C. A-Always, B-Be, C-Chooglin (will), Wednesday, 4 November 2020 15:23 (five years ago)

this assumes the Biden admin has any interest in advancing it in the first place

^

Biden already killed any chance of this happening.

― early-Woolf semantic prosody (Hadrian VIII), Wednesday, November 4, 2020 9:19 AM (one minute ago)

with 50 or more democratic senators, i'm confident that something would have passed. it wouldn't be the green dream whatever, but they would have passed some compromise bullshit (with 0 republican votes), and padded it out with infrastructure stuff, pushed it as more of a "jobs bill".

it's not controlling the senate that killed the chances of it happening

Karl Malone, Wednesday, 4 November 2020 15:25 (five years ago)

I know lil Tommy Friedman will be!!!

A-B-C. A-Always, B-Be, C-Chooglin (will), Wednesday, 4 November 2020 15:25 (five years ago)

Karl OTM. The GOP Senate prevents much of *anything* happening (and not just on climate).

jaymc, Wednesday, 4 November 2020 15:26 (five years ago)

COVID-19 relief is the big one that will get fucked in the short-term

Lover of Nixon (or LON for short) (Neanderthal), Wednesday, 4 November 2020 15:27 (five years ago)

Only a ticket composed of Kanye West and Nathan East can unite the nation.

balsamic jihad (Ye Mad Puffin), Wednesday, 4 November 2020 15:28 (five years ago)

it's not all doom and gloom, of course. controlling the presidency is very important. i'm hopeful that a lot of the ROT of the trump administration can be cleaned out. it's going to be a big job. and the house will continue to say the right things and then send bills to the senate to die.

but still. covid-19 help? when can we get some more covid-19 help in this fucking country? ask mitch mcconnell

xp neanderthal, exactly

Karl Malone, Wednesday, 4 November 2020 15:29 (five years ago)

And someone needs to stop looking at all 'hispanics' as a monolith because Mexican immigrants are not concerned with the same things anti-communist Cubans are.

Otm.

And then there are the Mexican-Americans whose families were in the southwest long before the anglos arrived (predating the Mayflower in some cases).

keen reverberations of twee (collardio gelatinous), Wednesday, 4 November 2020 15:30 (five years ago)

like....frankly, if we had COVID-19 help, I wouldn't HAVE to be moving in with my folks.

Lover of Nixon (or LON for short) (Neanderthal), Wednesday, 4 November 2020 15:30 (five years ago)

and a ton of my friends got laid off from Disney too. can't imagine they're gonna be doing great with the pittance of unemployment the state offers.

Lover of Nixon (or LON for short) (Neanderthal), Wednesday, 4 November 2020 15:30 (five years ago)

which brave patriot will step up and HUG mitch mcconnell

it bangs for thee (Simon H.), Wednesday, 4 November 2020 15:31 (five years ago)

that they haven't done anything since the early summer is a tragedy. it's such a fucking joke.

on potential positive news (pending exhausting litigation)

🚨BREAKING: New USPS data appears to show a failure to deliver mail ballots from voters across the country on Election Day. Lover of Nixon (or LON for short) (Neanderthal), Wednesday, 4 November 2020 15:32 (five years ago)

still waiting on my test results, but i'm likely to be positive and i would looooooooove to get mitch mcconnell a big old french kiss

Karl Malone, Wednesday, 4 November 2020 15:32 (five years ago)

so right now, I am feeling a pounding against my headboard. i can't tell if it's someone in the adjoining hotel room, or my anxiety causing my head to shake.

xpost how's your partner doing?

Lover of Nixon (or LON for short) (Neanderthal), Wednesday, 4 November 2020 15:33 (five years ago)

Not the huge win we were hoping for, but if Biden wins, at least executive orders get reversed, Barr is gone, and Trump and cronies are open to prosecution.

epistantophus, Wednesday, 4 November 2020 15:33 (five years ago)

I know I'm late to the game here, but the fact that people were even talking about "Latino voters" as a potentially monolithic entity with the same motivations and interests is like ... bizarroworld to me.

sarahell, Wednesday, 4 November 2020 15:38 (five years ago)

unsymptomatic so far, which is why i'm primarily just daydreaming about passing it to geriatric mutant senator turtles

Karl Malone, Wednesday, 4 November 2020 15:38 (five years ago)

There’s clearly a massive problem in Miami-Dade, but it’s not the whole story in Florida. Consider: **Even if Biden had pulled off the same margin in Miami-Dade as Hillary Clinton in 2016, he still would have lost Florida by a 170K vote margin.** The issue is broader/deeper.

How come every time they count Mail-In ballot dumps they are so devastating in their percentage and power of destruction?

— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) November 4, 2020

frogbs, Wednesday, 4 November 2020 15:40 (five years ago)

In South Florida, the USPS failed to deliver ~27 percent of the mail ballots.

the dump has finally arrived

rob, Wednesday, 4 November 2020 15:41 (five years ago)

is the broader/deeper issue that a big part of the state is the same racist white ppl you see in adjacent southern states?

sarahell, Wednesday, 4 November 2020 15:41 (five years ago)

Sarahell

Yeah who would think that making only a token gesture of outreach to such a diverse voting bloc would work---

OH HAI

PA Secretary of State on TV talking about the fact that military and overseas ballots haven't even showed up yet and aren't due until a week after Election Day.

Can progressives at least agree "Defund the Police" was a profoundly counterproductive phrase for reforming law enforcement?

Advanced Doomscroller (Sanpaku), Wednesday, 4 November 2020 15:45 (five years ago)

removal of Barr is big, I need him gone ASAP. also DeJoy gone, and our new intelligence cockinator, and BETSY FUCKIN DEVOS

PENNSYLVANIA UPDATE 10: Joe Biden is going to win Pennsylvania. We still have a lot of counting to do -- by some estimates as many as a million and a half votes. Check back in throughout the day and I'll update you as I learn more. pic.twitter.com/Kf1p0LlEhl

The core of progressive support has been getting murdered in the streets by armed thugs since the end of the Civil War, and you're talking about that righteous anger and outrage as if it's their fault and not the fault of systemic racism.

healthy cocaine off perfect butts (the table is the table), Wednesday, 4 November 2020 15:48 (five years ago)

table and harbl otm re police

Sanpaku hi, I’m back!

Shut the fuck up

all cats are beautiful (silby), Wednesday, 4 November 2020 15:48 (five years ago)

otm, nobody should regret that damn slogan

Lover of Nixon (or LON for short) (Neanderthal), Wednesday, 4 November 2020 15:50 (five years ago)

Hold up, so if reporting is accurate, there are hundreds of thousands of ballots that didn't get delivered in time across the country? Which is exactly what people predicted might happen? Add up those votes and maybe this election would be less of a squeaker after all.

Josh in Chicago, Wednesday, 4 November 2020 15:50 (five years ago)

yes the Senate is disappointing but if Biden wins let’s allow ourselves to be a little fucking happy. like Neanderthal says - all those ghouls like devos will be gone. the key is to win and keep winning. it won’t happen all at once.

Li'l Brexit (Tracer Hand), Wednesday, 4 November 2020 15:50 (five years ago)

Feeling that, Neanderthal.

epistantophus, Wednesday, 4 November 2020 15:50 (five years ago)

at some point you have to do and say the right thing even if there's a risk that Joe Shlabotnik from Needlefuck, Indiana, has a visceral reaction to it because he thinks Antifa is going to commandeer his house.

Lover of Nixon (or LON for short) (Neanderthal), Wednesday, 4 November 2020 15:50 (five years ago)

It’ll only happen once

all cats are beautiful (silby), Wednesday, 4 November 2020 15:50 (five years ago)

That slogan was way more useful politically to the authoritarians than it was to those of us who want to reform adversarial policing...

Advanced Doomscroller (Sanpaku), Wednesday, 4 November 2020 15:51 (five years ago)

it's gonna suck to go without the senate but the latest is that it's looking like joe biden has a better than 50% chance of eeking out a win in the ec - is this what i'm seeing / hearing?

Give me a Chad Smith-type feel (map), Wednesday, 4 November 2020 15:51 (five years ago)

Well, I can tell you "defund the police" had an impact in Miami-Dade, thanks to relentless Spanish TV Trump ads. And I like the slogan.

Patriotic Goiter (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Wednesday, 4 November 2020 15:52 (five years ago)

xxxpost even if the message had been softer ("Transform the Police!", "Improve the Police!", "Help the Police!", "Hump the Police!"), I doubt people woulda stopped considering us all commie libtards and suddenly threw us votes

Lover of Nixon (or LON for short) (Neanderthal), Wednesday, 4 November 2020 15:52 (five years ago)
