I'm sick to my stomach and I don't even live there any more. No work is getting done today.

American Fear of Scampos (Ed), Wednesday, 4 November 2020 00:57 (five years ago)

This seems to be the conventional wisdom but I’m letting myself worry tbqh

Seemingly everything is going to plan, with the exception of one massive county.

Doctor Casino, Wednesday, 4 November 2020 00:57 (five years ago)

Ohio is tracking better for Biden than anticipated, but granted it's essentially just Columbus so far.

Jersey Al (Albert R. Broccoli), Wednesday, 4 November 2020 00:58 (five years ago)

Dude I'd be worried if any of us weren't worried.

This week has turned my bowel movements into congealed globules of abject misery

Lover of Nixon (or LON for short) (Neanderthal), Wednesday, 4 November 2020 00:58 (five years ago)

florida being the first state to put results out is the classic horror movie mistake of showing your monster in the first reel

Catch the Vuelta ITT replay and you'll be fine Ed!

A Scampo Darkly (Le Bateau Ivre), Wednesday, 4 November 2020 00:59 (five years ago)

Stop watching cnn

The CNN coverage of the Florida situation is terrible; they keep emphasizing how close the statewide vote count is while ignoring the fact that none of the Panhandle is in yet. Biden’s done there.

NYT needle ftw.

Their polling hours are extended another 15 right?

Lover of Nixon (or LON for short) (Neanderthal), Wednesday, 4 November 2020 01:00 (five years ago)

fuck florida, we’re going to stomp trump’s teeth into the sidewalk. we’re going to grind him into the earth

Li'l Brexit (Tracer Hand), Wednesday, 4 November 2020 01:01 (five years ago)

Idk what Florida says bc most polls had that very close

frogbs, Wednesday, 4 November 2020 01:02 (five years ago)

Why is it even close at all

treeship., Wednesday, 4 November 2020 01:03 (five years ago)

xp: Matty Y is kinda discredited forever with me for his push for the US to grow past 1 B to keep up with the Chinas.

Advanced Doomscroller (Sanpaku), Wednesday, 4 November 2020 01:03 (five years ago)

Florida is a weird state. We shouldn't write off the inference from between-state correlations, but in fully-reporting counties from the other states, I'm seeing a 3 point average shift toward Biden. Seems important to note re: the Midwest.

what, "it's fine when workers get crushed to death" wasn't enough for you?

it bangs for thee (Simon H.), Wednesday, 4 November 2020 01:05 (five years ago)

I never counted Florida in the win county, as I've said repeatedly. The only genuine surprise is the extent of Democratic erosion in MDC. But we were here in 2018 too.

Patriotic Goiter (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Wednesday, 4 November 2020 01:05 (five years ago)

how do you account for it, Alfred?

Li'l Brexit (Tracer Hand), Wednesday, 4 November 2020 01:06 (five years ago)

Yeah my hope is that there really was a massive blue wave in 2018 and it manifested itself everywhere by Florida

frogbs, Wednesday, 4 November 2020 01:06 (five years ago)

xp sanpaku, same. A colossally bad idea

NYT calls McConnell winner in KY over McGrath.

Jersey Al (Albert R. Broccoli), Wednesday, 4 November 2020 01:09 (five years ago)

Amy McGrath very much appears to be a born loser, no one should be surprised

if very early

devvvine, Wednesday, 4 November 2020 01:12 (five years ago)

If you ignore Wolf Blitzer, John King--focussing on Miami--has been pretty clear that Biden is in big trouble in Florida.

clemenza, Wednesday, 4 November 2020 01:14 (five years ago)

It's early. Let's hang in there.

(Really was hoping to see Mitch go down in flames)

Everything's Blue In This Whorl (Raymond Cummings), Wednesday, 4 November 2020 01:14 (five years ago)

I'm trying to remember that Florida is not necessary.

clemenza, Wednesday, 4 November 2020 01:14 (five years ago)

trump ahead 1% in Fla with 90% of vote counted apparently

Li'l Brexit (Tracer Hand), Wednesday, 4 November 2020 01:14 (five years ago)

Honestly it made me so angry that I would get like 20 emails a day for McGrath, a candidate with nothing to recommend her running in a solid red state against an entrenched candidate that we don’t even need to beat. I just kept thinking about all the money getting sucked up that could have gone to close races.

longtime caller, first time listener (man alive), Wednesday, 4 November 2020 01:14 (five years ago)

i switched to nbc and feel much better

@sic_bot (✔️) (Karl Malone), Wednesday, 4 November 2020 01:15 (five years ago)

we were all hoping florida could flip so we could go to sleep early, basically

Li'l Brexit (Tracer Hand), Wednesday, 4 November 2020 01:15 (five years ago)

Much as we hate Senator Mitch McConnell, his win was never really in doubt since McGrath clocked in as his opponent. Booker would have lost, too, but would have at least ignited some enthusiasm among younger Democrats.

the unappreciated charisma of cows (Aimless), Wednesday, 4 November 2020 01:15 (five years ago)

I just don't want it to come down to Pennsylvania and god knows what kind of prolonged agony.

clemenza, Wednesday, 4 November 2020 01:16 (five years ago)

Texas and Ohio are looking great for Biden but not sure if it's because the rural vote comes later in those states.

Jersey Al (Albert R. Broccoli), Wednesday, 4 November 2020 01:16 (five years ago)

Prolonged agony is our lot in life as Americans.

Okay I've found a clickable 2016 county map, and in the TX counties I've checked where a large majority of expected votes have been counted according to the Bloomberg graphic, the shift seems to be pretty universally in the Dem direction. Not to get anyone's hopes up or anything, but it does seem somewhat positive.

(In FL it wasn't quite as clear, but the only massive outlier that had moved significantly the other way was Miami-Dade.)
