Re: PA, my mom is a PA voter and told me voting was a particularly onerous pia this year. She requested a mail-in ballot that took so long to show up she decided to just drop it off in person rather than risk another mail delay, and even finding a dropbox to do that was a pain in the ass. fwiw.

Going to work until 11:30PM tonight and monitoring the results on my phone.

In a neighborhood in Roseville, California, people with Biden signs on their yards discovered blue dots had been spray painted on the road in front of their homes sometime between Saturday night and Sunday morning. No other houses reportedly had the dots.

One of the neighbors told KCRA-TV that the markings were “pretty creepy” and made him feel “targeted and intimidated a little bit.”

perhaps these blue dots are marking the locations where special thank you notes should be dropped off

poll watching is legal. the watcher must be a wholly neutral presence. they are not allowed to interfere with the process of voting in any way, especially anything resembling intimidation. there are probably other requirements set by state laws. things like taking a training in what you are allowed to do and what is prohibited and being assigned to a polling place, not just showing up freelancing.

yeah, the latter point is my issue.

xp, yep, multiple friends of mine received said training and are serving as “observers” today

I just talked to a conservative guy I know, who of course I disagree with on most things, and he was saying how many conservatives he talks to — mostly middle-aged, white conservatives, especially women — who don't like Trump personally but say they are genuinely afraid that if Biden wins somehow that means BLM and Antifa are going to be coming for them and their families. The guy I was talking to does not share this concern and thinks it's nuts, but he said people seem sincere about it.

(This guy also prides himself on not watching Fox News, so I suppose that could be the main difference.)

Speaking of buying champagne on Election Day- I’m sorry to report that I must take full responsibility for what happened in 2016. On my way home from work that fateful day, I bought beer, a pizza, and a fucking <i>cake</i>, went home, and settled in with my wife to watch Trump lose. This is after weeks of reassuring her that there was <i>no way</i> he would win. Needless to say, long before we got to the cake, my wife had gone to bed, and I was by myself on the couch, watching the horror unfold in mounting disbelief. I got good and drunk that night. I forced myself to eat that cake over the next several days in penance, and let me assure you that it tasted like ashes in my mouth. So rest assured that I did not make any similar preparations for today.
