obvs he deserves it one should never write "she has the best breasts of her generation" instead of "she has a sick and i mean super freaking sick rack" --strunk and white

It really does take him from the realm of Barstool blogger creepy to "I collect skins" creepy.

i read this takedown piece that relayed more information about this guy than i really wanted to know but also upped the wtf-ness of his persona. a real wasteman, not very bright, lots and lots of ego.

feel like his shtick is he has no curiosity about how other people actually live or think and when people yell at him for portraying things in such a stereotypical, facile way he gets confused

This really gets to the core of TCW and the Harpers’ Letter crew’s grievance; in the old days, he’d go back to his chalet and chortle with his friends over his interview subject’s body and literary pretensions. Now he’s getting lit up by said subject and a peon commentator!

Just wondering who the first media hall monitor will be to complain that this Substack user or that one violates The Rules & should be banned. My money is on @oliverdarcy or @oneunderscore__ which, I grant, are obvious choices. Amazing that censorious whining is a journalist beat https://t.co/HOyZkmi1Y0

The president is ranting again about Twitter's trending topics, saying the list includes too much "boring" stuff. He says, "I know what trending is better than anybody in the world. I've been trending my whole life. From the day I was born, I've been trending."

i had assumed that substack was just a platform for mass email delivery, like tinyletter or something?

like, are enough ppl really going to subscribe to glem's newsletter to pay him six figures and give substack a cut?

i mean the way he's going he'll get koch money but still

mookieproof, Tuesday, 3 November 2020 02:10 (five years ago)

not sure if glenn has a hardcore fanbase but some writers cld prob make it work like say andrew sullivan, however idk if substack is the best way to do that

lag∞n, Tuesday, 3 November 2020 02:16 (five years ago)

are Glenn Greenwald, Andrew Sullivan and Matt Taibbi are all now with substack?

yeah

lag∞n, Tuesday, 3 November 2020 02:30 (five years ago)

if i were one of these newly unemployed big name writers and i didnt want get big investment money and have a whole organization that needed to be managed produce big numbers and so forth i might try something substackish thats like half podcasts with a staff of less than 5 people, tho i would think hard about whether i wanted to use a 3rd party platform like substack thats ultimately concerned about whats good for them rather than you

but im sure substack is prob just a stopgap for these guys anyway, unless substack has a ton of money they feel like throwing around, but then even that wont last

lag∞n, Tuesday, 3 November 2020 02:30 (five years ago)

oh, trust me. the substack money is FLOWING

the part of it i don't like is being shown people i've never hard of before and would never hear of if not for twitter being owned. i guess in some case they're quasi-reputable media figures, but also more often not? im pretty sure the girl who said AOC's boyfriend has raccoon dick energy or wtv is just some random with 5k followers

like this one was pretty funny to me bc it's glenn. fucking. greenwald. we all know him, oh isn't this so predictable of his late descent yet also so perfectly in-character, etc. thomas chatterthon williams i didn't even know who he was (name vaguely rings a bell but im certain it's just because he has been main character of twitter before). i guess it's kinda funny that he said emily ratajkowski's boobs are neat. but like, it's not as funny as the horny anthony lane review of incredibles 2

it's just not my thing
