When another follower suggested that “revenues from tests are likely not bogus & very consistent,” Musk replied, “Exactly.”

Rapid antigen tests trade sensitivity for speed. They return a result in <30 minutes, but can only detect COVID-19 when you're absolutely riddled with it. What's bogus is that Space Karen didn't read up on the test before complaining to his millions of followers. pic.twitter.com/a1Snfpm03h— Emma Bell PhD (@emmabell42) November 14, 2020

― Li'l Brexit (Tracer Hand), Wednesday, 18 November 2020 00:45 (five years ago)
rare = sometimes happens
we're not going to have much of an idea of how rare it is until the vaccines have been in use for a year or two

I would imagine if anyone’s going to get it twice it would be people who are continually exposed to massive viral load while under the nominal care of the state.

it would be people who are continually exposed to massive viral load while under the nominal care of the state
or those with expensive lawyers who attempt to use fabricated illnesses as a means to avoid incarceration/hard time

― Clean-up on ILX (onimo), Wednesday, 18 November 2020 10:45 (five years ago)
xp: BNO is keeping a tally of Covid-19 reinfections. Seems extremely rare, but there's a case report of significant differences in the viral genomes of the two infections.
Evolutionary selection driving the virus to a new peak on its "fitness landscape" is one reason why countries are taking the mink farm outbreaks so seriously. Enough shift in the spike protein epitope and past infection or vaccination wouldn't provide (as much) protection.
― Advanced Doomscroller (Sanpaku), Wednesday, 18 November 2020 18:31 (five years ago)
study came out today (that hasn't been peer-reviewed or published yet, hence me not sharing link) suggesting immunity can last 6 months or more.
i'll wait for the peer review/publishing to put full faith in that.
