I can actually hear him chiding me for including any movies from the last 25 years.

OTM. I am really cautious about making any statements about his taste for fear that he will return to plague me like Jacob Madison in the "Christmas Carol" episode of The Odd Couple.

With my luck, it'd be a replay of the movie version of The Sunshine Boys.

not to disparage morbs, but if we're going to vote on the best movies of all time there will be a lot of films from the last 25 years on that list
― Dan S, Friday, 30 October 2020 03:12 (three years ago) link
and he will PAH! every one of them

Flowers of Shanghai was just restored, FYI. Not sure everywhere it’s screening virtually but will do so during a Taiwanese film retrospective at AFI Silver next month. https://newfilmstaiwan.eventive.org/schedule

This may sound potentially doofy and I wondered if I should post it but I have only hung out with WFMU folks a small number of times (never lived in NY/NJ), and one of them was at a barbecue where Pseu Braun was in attendance with a guest I only vaguely remember as being kinda quiet, but who maybe looked like Bill. Obviously it could have been anyone and I'll probably never know for sure, but would be strange if I was in the company of Dr. Morbius and didn't realize it.
― Chris L, Friday, 30 October 2020 06:40 (three years ago) link
thanks for doing that Eric. I was never crazy about older movies outside of the classics but i'm going to try to work my way back in time and see how far I can get.

The Man Who Shot Liberty Valence is high in the running for best western film of all time. It puts Shane to shame.

Let's talk about Morbs' answering machine.
1) picks up on the second ring2) does he screen his calls3) sounds like the tape is about to wear through4) wouldn't have some many hang ups if it rang longer

It's been many years since I've seen Shane, but fresh off my first viewing of Liberty Valance and I have to agree. It was terrific and I don't know how I avoided seeing it for so long.

Morbs and I sure had our differences, but not on this. And I miss him dearly not hammering the following home: no one should be "thrilled" by a Biden win. Biden's merely 'not Trump'. Now let's hope 'not Trump' beats 'is Trump', but shit man, USA has got so much shit to sort out, a single 'not Trump' term is not going to cut it.
