Never a fan of them as a kid but they were good in panto in Hull a few years back, they seem like decent lads really.

I definitely did the "rock on Tommy" thing a bunch as a kid, though I was too young really to have watched the TV show. Tommy Cannon's a born-again, isn't he? I thought that was what broke up their partnership in the first place.

After re-watching Boys in Blue today I've realised that I misremembered this one because I always thought there was a person going around pretending to be the headless horseman, and I had a pretty vivid image in my mind of it. Turns out there isn't (they just mention it as a myth) and in my childhood just decided to make it up.

Two Meter Peter (Ste), Thursday, 29 October 2020 16:14 (five years ago)

btw I'm pretty gutted about it.

My folks went to see C&B at the Floral Pavilion in New Brighton - early '90s, maybe? First half: rock on, you really 'ate me, you've got me skin, etc. Second half: praise Jesus. They walked out.

RIP guitarist, songwriter, producer, engineer Stan Kesler who wrote “I'm Left, You're Right, She's Gone," & "I Forgot to Remember to Forget” for Elvis, engineered soul classic “Dark End of the Street,” played w/ Jerry Lee Lewis on “Great Balls of Fire,” and produced Sam the Sham’s “Wooly Bully “.

Quite a life and never got that much attention

curmudgeon, Thursday, 29 October 2020 16:23 (five years ago)

what a great career, RIP Stan Kesler

Sean Connery

That's a pretty big one. Big enough to close out the virtual Oscars?

damn, news that I subconsciously realized was coming for a while, but it still hurts a lot.

damn. RIP to a true screen legend imo.

he hit women

wasdnous (abanana), Saturday, 31 October 2020 14:04 (five years ago)

ah fuck. did not realize. had genuinely never really read much about him as a person.

Alex Trebek outlived Sean Connery.

his most famous movie, where he rapes a lesbian into straightness

wasdnous (abanana), Saturday, 31 October 2020 20:59 (five years ago)

Margaret Nolan, who played Dink in that Goldfinger clip, only died a few weeks ago herself.

Ward Fowler, Saturday, 31 October 2020 21:26 (five years ago)

is the trebek stuff just from snl, or did they actually have some kind of relationship?? I feel like he did enough noteworthy things on his own to prevent the knee jerk reference to an impression.

glengarry gary beers (voodoo chili), Saturday, 31 October 2020 21:31 (five years ago)

abanana, were you actively expressing yr SC disdain while he was alive or were you just waiting to be a ghoul once he'd kicked it?

OrificeMax (Old Lunch), Saturday, 31 October 2020 21:34 (five years ago)

I've definitely referred to Bond raping a lesbian straight on here before, disagree with Connery's IRL policy of it being appropriate to beat women if they won't shut up, and greatly enjoy many of his film performances. There's no wrong time.

pointing out a couple unpleasant facts ≠ 'being a ghoul'

Sean Connery a total asshole? Yes.

Sean Connery a decent and rightfully legendary actor? Also yes.

Montgomery Burns' Jazz (Tarfumes The Escape Goat), Saturday, 31 October 2020 22:37 (five years ago)

hit me with some Connery deep cuts. Beyond the Bond films, Marnie, and a couple legacy roles from the 90s, I don't know of much. a friend of mine sent me a picture of a poster of some western he was in that she really liked. I know about Zardoz but Boorman is pretty chilly and kinda boring imo lol

flappy bird, Sunday, 1 November 2020 04:15 (five years ago)

The Man Who Would Be King is the poster she sent me

I've thought about it here and there, as well as with his contemporaneous retiree Gene Hackman, who's also 90. That'll be a sad day.

Johnny Fever, Sunday, 1 November 2020 04:21 (five years ago)

xp you should watch that.

visiting, Sunday, 1 November 2020 04:22 (five years ago)

yeah, Man Who Would Be King is a banger flappy. more talk over here: The Sean Connery Poll

edited for dog profanity (sic), Sunday, 1 November 2020 04:57 (five years ago)

the man who would be king isn't really a western unless you mean like idk "western" afghanistan or the "wild frontier" of the british empire or some shit

x-post

How did I not dig into gospel great Rance Allen's singing and guitar playing till now. Some great video footage out there from Wattstax through recent years. I think he stopped playing guitar awhile ago, but his vocals could go deep and low as well as falsetto high

I’m actually super bummed about this. In the age of click-bate and auto-generated articles, will we ever see a writer like this again?

tbh I think the guy was a fucking waste of space. It makes me feel old remembering watching Porterhouse Blue as a kid, with him playing a "young student".

calzino, Tuesday, 3 November 2020 13:15 (five years ago)

Although he was probably in his late 30's

calzino, Tuesday, 3 November 2020 13:16 (five years ago)

He was really great in Stella Street, and I loved him on Whose Line as a kid.

Change Display Name: (stevie), Tuesday, 3 November 2020 13:17 (five years ago)

I was referring to his very vocal support of UKIP more than his work, which I can't stand either tbh!
