Even Wasserman's starting to hedge a bit on the 'don't interpret volume of early vote as a sign' stance in this thread -- in a very specific circumstance, but even so, one wonders.

In Sumter Co., FL, as of this morning 72,695 out of 105,612 registered voters (69%) have already voted - which I believe is the highest turnout rate outside of auto-VBM states.

probably refers to whoever wrote that notorious NYT op-ed saying that high administration officials were actively but secretly working to undermine, delay or bury Trump's most dangerous decisions, because they feared for the nation if he were allowed to exercise the full power of his office without restraint.

Aimless is correct -- Conway links said op-ed in his tweet.

MUCH better, yes.

Ned Raggett, Wednesday, 28 October 2020 18:09 (five years ago)

And if that's the case and he holds, then assuming Jones loses in Alabama as is likely, there'd have to be four Democratic victories to tie in the Senate, five for a majority.

Ned Raggett, Wednesday, 28 October 2020 18:10 (five years ago)

Just read the NYT story in full, thanks.

Patriotic Goiter (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Wednesday, 28 October 2020 18:10 (five years ago)

And if that's the case and he holds, then assuming Jones loses in Alabama as is likely, there'd have to be four Democratic victories to tie in the Senate, five for a majority.

― Ned Raggett,

Isn't it three wins + VP Harris tie breaking and four for the outright majority?

Patriotic Goiter (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Wednesday, 28 October 2020 18:11 (five years ago)

Well yes but that's why I mentioned Jones -- that changes it from 53 GOP to 54. Collins, Gardner and McSally all appear to be toast one way or another at last check, so add in any one of Ernst, Tillis, Graham, Perdue and Loeffler (though runoffs likely in the latter two cases) and things are at least even/tiebreak. Two of them, excellent, and run up the score from there if possible.

Ned Raggett, Wednesday, 28 October 2020 18:12 (five years ago)

I mean, if Jones gets reelected, great! I'm just not hopeful.

Ned Raggett, Wednesday, 28 October 2020 18:13 (five years ago)

Senator Tuberville, fucking hell

scampo-phenique (WmC), Wednesday, 28 October 2020 18:15 (five years ago)

I have no idea why everyone still thinks Kellyanne was the author of that piece. Show me one shred of evidence that she did anything but serve as a facilitator and mouthpiece of Trump's horrible ideas.

maybe. he was only ambassador for a little while though. and that doesn't strike me as being 'in the administration' to the extent that article implied.

akm, Wednesday, 28 October 2020 18:27 (five years ago)

Trump just wants the convenience of knowing he won two days earlier. you can bet he'll suddenly flip on absentees the moment he realizes he's fucked.

Trump doing his best to kill off his Nebraska voters: For hours, attendees - including many elderly Trump supporters - stood in the cold, as police scrambled to help those most at-risk get to warmth.
Thirty people needed medical attention over the course of the rally, Omaha police spokesman Michael Pecha told The Washington Post on Wednesday. Seven were taken to local hospitals "with a variety of medical conditions."...

Andy the Grasshopper, Wednesday, 28 October 2020 18:35 (five years ago)

the quotes in the articles from Trump attendees all suggest they'd gladly die at one of his rallies.

If you're a New York Times reporter assigned to cover a Trump rally, do you quote the "I'm sure Mr. Trump didn't mean for this to happen, he probably wasn't briefed on the logistics" guy or the "MY LIFE FOR YOU!" guy? "MY LIFE FOR YOU!" makes it into the paper every single time.

Real shame ol' Ron isn't up for reelection this year, the way the state is looking:

Sen. Ron Johnson is so angry about this obviously satirical tweet about him, he just read it at the Senate tech hearing. Johnson says he wants the tweet taken down— "That could definitely affect my ability to get re-elected." https://t.co/Kx7782yBM7

— Will Sommer (@willsommer) October 28, 2020

Said tweet:

Sen Ron Johnson is my neighbor and strangled our dog, Buttons, right in front of my 4 yr old son and 3 yr old daughter. The police refuse to investigate. This is a complete lie but important to retweet and note that there are more of my lies to come.

For example, the recent revelation of Hunter Biden’s hidden emails on his laptop, coupled with the link to his father, has come at an opportune time for the president. Moreover, if the economic recovery continues, the good news may continue putting wind in Trump’s sails.

Absolutely delusional.

Andy the Grasshopper, Wednesday, 28 October 2020 18:53 (five years ago)

Speaking of delusional

Kushner told Woodward: "The most dangerous people around the President are over-confident idiots." https://t.co/WR8s5KeKut

After his son Eric, the only child still willing to visit the old man on his birthday, had wheeled his chair into the corner, so as to better avoid the stomach-churning sight of the balding lump of orange flesh slurping the lumpy tapioca pudding, the old man began to weep and muttered plaintively into his lap, "fake... pudding... fake.... pudding."

Lol yeah amazing that a bullshit attempt to smear his opponent that his team fabricated came at an opportune time!

A True White Kid that can Jump (Granny Dainger), Wednesday, 28 October 2020 19:11 (five years ago)

The fact that most people in the media didn't fall for the EXACT SAME BULLSHIT he pulled with Hilary's emails is encouraging. "Oh gee just weeks before election a scandal about his opponent's emails surfaces, far enough out to effect election but not enough for it to be formally discredited. Again. What are the odds??" Jfc of that had worked…

A True White Kid that can Jump (Granny Dainger), Wednesday, 28 October 2020 19:15 (five years ago)
