Kennedy is such a loser.

"Nixon now! Nixon now!"

Neanderthal, Wednesday, 28 October 2020 05:06 (five years ago)

"The irony was that we were deep in Gen X land where rebellion was the most popular flavor," Kennedy’s former boss Lauren Levine recalls in the book. "And being a Republican was the ultimate rebellion, as most, if not all, were left leaning."

lol that's...an interesting way to frame it

Neanderthal, Wednesday, 28 October 2020 05:07 (five years ago)

But Kennedy really made the gossip columns because of the way she greeted a fellow Republican. "Finally out of the corner of my eye I spied a f---ing rock star real star,” she wrote. “ John McLaughlin was looking and I knew another headset was bound to intercept if I didn’t act fast, and I had to prove to him he was not the only Lover of Nixon (or LON for short) in the room.”

LON

Neanderthal, Wednesday, 28 October 2020 05:08 (five years ago)

Kennedy marched up to the “McLaughlin Group” host and Martha Stewart, McLaughlin’s date for the evening. “I instinctively hiked up my dress, half pulled down my red thong, wangled free of my red opaque satin Donna Karan hose (She was there too! Hi Donna!) and showed him my faithful pink GOP elephant tattoo on my pristine pelvis, which I’ll have you know is a hard spot to show off in confining evening wear,” she said. “He about spit out his mint julep all over Martha’s melons.”

The two became fast friends.

In the end, the meeting didn't improve the evening. “This huge night came to a solitary end, and I realized, as a choked on my tears, liberals are almost worse than loneliness,” Kennedy remembered.

She was first introduced to libertarianism when Kurt Loder suggested she read Ayn Rand's Introduction to Objectivist Epistemology.[34] She actively supported Gary Johnson in both the 2012 and 2016 presidential elections.[35]

In March 2012, Reason published an article by Kennedy saying atheism is a religion on par with theistic religions.[36]

They are. And don't forget El Paso... only ~400k voters but like Austin, deep blue (+50 Dem lean).

Election Day turnout in El Paso is going to be tiny. They’re under curfew with field hospitals.

𝔠𝔞𝔢𝔨 (caek), Wednesday, 28 October 2020 05:49 (five years ago)

They've still managed to notch up about 200k early votes!

thousand-yard spiral stairs (f. hazel), Wednesday, 28 October 2020 06:05 (five years ago)

yup, but if people in el paso can't vote on election day that means fewer democratic votes in texas.

.@hamiltonnolan wrote a really good piece about how trump's rallies are "inevitably held at the airport, allowing him to exit Air Force One, hold forth to the adoring crowd, and then fly right out" - in this case with potentially deadly results https://t.co/m2BFN7HFdY https://t.co/HBqIVEEEfK

if i wanted to boost my vote with seniors i would simply not strand them in a field in single digit temperatures.

this is exploding on twitter and reddit right now too.

Lover of Nixon (or LON for short) (Neanderthal), Wednesday, 28 October 2020 06:12 (five years ago)

and all this for one electoral vote

Lover of Nixon (or LON for short) (Neanderthal), Wednesday, 28 October 2020 06:14 (five years ago)

really fucked up that the Democrats sabotaged the buses to kill those old Trump voters man, fucked up

Lover of Nixon (or LON for short) (Neanderthal), Wednesday, 28 October 2020 06:19 (five years ago)

xp

if biden flips only AZ, MI and WI (which is not a crazy scenario) then it's a tie. it's not crazy to campaign there!

𝔠𝔞𝔢𝔨 (caek), Wednesday, 28 October 2020 06:21 (five years ago)

though perhaps not on a freezing night during a pandemic that's worsening where you only paid for buses to drop off, and not pick up (which is apparently what happened? who knows)

I saw an article on Twitter this morning about Rogan going in on the media ignoring the laptop story and I'm still shook by the cesspool in the replies, even for the state of Twitter in 2020. Just an entire alternate universe out there about this story.

Since I met my wife, I've spent a lot of time in Michigan over the last 15 years. It never fails to surprise me. I love the state and I hate the state.

soaring skrrrtpeggios (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Wednesday, 28 October 2020 13:31 (five years ago)

i've only there for a layover and had no desire to leave the airport

Lover of Nixon (or LON for short) (Neanderthal), Wednesday, 28 October 2020 13:53 (five years ago)

xxxpost the crankverse is convinced that the media is ignoring the Hunter Biden story until after the election, so Nancy and Chuck can impeach Biden in January and install Comrade Kamala

Muswell Hillbilly Elegy (President Keyes), Wednesday, 28 October 2020 13:55 (five years ago)

they are going to remove Nancy as speaker, install AOC as speaker, then impeach both Biden and Kamala, installing AOC as President, despite no being old enough.

Lover of Nixon (or LON for short) (Neanderthal), Wednesday, 28 October 2020 13:57 (five years ago)

Well birth certificates can be altered, as we well know

Muswell Hillbilly Elegy (President Keyes), Wednesday, 28 October 2020 14:00 (five years ago)

I struggle with my love for Michigan. I love Ann Arbor and Detroit and the Upper Peninsula is some of the most beautiful land I've ever been on in the continental United States. But the rampant casual racism and hate makes it really hard to fully embrace the state. The number of pick-ups I've seen with full on gun racks and confederate flags in Northern Michigan is frankly astounding.

I'd much rather wander the wilds of Michigan than boring Illinois. So much great stuff in Michigan, but nothing really worthwhile in IL outside of Chicago, afaict. As far as guns go, why have I always known the term "Michigan Militia?" Why Michigan?

Josh in Chicago, Wednesday, 28 October 2020 14:04 (five years ago)

There's going to be a ton of attention on Texas next week, and Trump is going to end up winning it by 2 points, which will be spun into a massive loss for Dems even though they've won a landslide elsewhere

Muswell Hillbilly Elegy (President Keyes), Wednesday, 28 October 2020 14:05 (five years ago)

this is true to some degree for every state i've been in tbh. so disillusioning

real muthaphuckkin jeez (crüt), Wednesday, 28 October 2020 14:07 (five years ago)

I don't know, it seems much more amplified and open in Michigan. I mean, I grew up in the cornfields central Illinois and saw plenty of casual racism and idiots, but the only confederate flags I remember seeing were on the t-shirts and coke mirrors when the carnival rolled through town every summer, I can't recall seeing any full flags flown on the back of pickups. Last time we drove up from Ann Arbor to Bay City, I saw no less than 8 or 9 trucks with fill sized confederate flags anchored to the back. It really is a different world in Michigan.

Kid Rock makes summertime in Northern Michigan sound pretty lit, tbf

Anaïs Ninja (Ye Mad Puffin), Wednesday, 28 October 2020 14:12 (five years ago)

correct me if I'm wrong but Michigan was not part of the Confederacy

Nhex, Wednesday, 28 October 2020 14:12 (five years ago)

Nhex, yeah, it's baffling. Which makes it even more shocking.

Eh, Kid Rock's idea of "Northern Michigan" is the suburbs north of Detroit.

i feel like this has changed a lot all over since i was a kid, i see that shit back in my hometown now all the time, never would have seen that growing up (not that it wasn't racist but not in that type of way, confederate flags etc)

That's fair, ums. I haven't been back to the town I went to high school in for about twenty years and have no plans to ever do so since my family all moved away. It could very well be that dismal there now as well.

I've seen plenty of people flying dixie in Northern California. Anywhere rural and white and you're going to get some idiot racist assholes.

Josh in Chicago, Wednesday, 28 October 2020 14:30 (five years ago)

like Florida in 2018.

Not really. Florida 2018 swung in the opposite direction than the rest of the country. It’s not that it didn’t swing far enough to flip which is what we expect of Texas. Florida swung the wrong way.

You guys, there have always been a bunch of shithead Northerners who fly Confederate flags; I think people just assumed they were Lynyrd Skynyrd fans and didn't interrogate what they were seeing.

I have a family member who worked for the Bay City health dept for years and absolutely LOATHES it there because of the people.

West Michigan is my entire heart but it's not because of the people, it's because of the landscape (mostly the lakes).

Ima Gardener (in orbit), Wednesday, 28 October 2020 14:56 (five years ago)

Early vote total now 73 million — *seven* million from yesterday morning. Whether or not that’s a new average who knows but it’s looking pretty clear we’ll hit 80 million at some point tomorrow before noon and 90 million by Saturday morning if not earlier. 100 million by Election Day morning increasingly possible.

Ned Raggett, Wednesday, 28 October 2020 14:57 (five years ago)
