You gotta listen to Corey Lewandowski on this:
https://thehill.com/opinion/campaign/521646-state-of-the-race-cancel-culture-and-polling-dont-mix

If I ever got a call from a pollster (which I haven’t), I’d have no fear of answering honestly about which candidate earned my vote.

But not everyone is comfortable sharing what the left and their friends in the media and big institutions have deemed to be an invalid opinion. It can, and does, get you fired. Answering a pollster who called your phone, and knew your name, creates a record of your choice for president. There’s real risk in saying the name “Donald Trump” — someday, it could be used against you.

jaymc, Monday, 26 October 2020 15:03 (five years ago)

lol of course it would be an even stupider reason than i was imagining

to be honest, if i find out someone voted for donald trump, i do think they're a fucking idiot

so best not to mention that during a job interview i guess, because holy shit, it would be hard to avoid pulling out an airhorn and blasting it

Billions and billions of Stare Decisis

Muswell Hillbilly Elegy (President Keyes), Monday, 26 October 2020 15:22 (five years ago)

if only 1 out of every million supreme court justices are on the toilet during the zoom call, there are a 1000 SC justices on the toilet during the zoom call. and it only takes 1 person to accidentally unmute to cause mayhem.

that's the main reason the idea isn't feasible, sorry djp

just another 3-pinnochio post by (Karl Malone), Monday, 26 October 2020 15:23 (five years ago)

This is the main reason why the idea must be implemented post haste, IMO

as an originalist and constitutional scholar, i remember the Section that says if it's your idea to add a billion SC justices to the court, you have to run the zoom call every week

Neanderthal, Monday, 26 October 2020 15:36 (five years ago)

Makes sense to name every US citizen a Supreme Court justice. That way, we just vote on these cases as they come up. I know there would not be enough in the federal budget for robes-for-all, but I'm sure there's enough for everybody to at least get a commemorative coffee mug.

henry s, Monday, 26 October 2020 15:45 (five years ago)

We can all work from home, who needs robes?

The "massive early voting numbers have no discernible meaning" takes are starting to grate a bit.

Mr. Cacciatore (Moodles), Monday, 26 October 2020 15:59 (five years ago)

We're all totally neurotic from 2016... my WAG-not-prediction is that Election Day turnout is also massively higher than 2016 and (as in the past) this bodes well for Democrats.

thousand-yard spiral stairs (f. hazel), Monday, 26 October 2020 16:06 (five years ago)

yeah I'm also sick of hearing about how Trump enthusiasm is higher than Biden...I think anti-Trump enthusiasm beats them both, you cannot overstate how much 55% of this country wants him to go away forever

frogbs, Monday, 26 October 2020 16:07 (five years ago)

New: Denton and Williamson counties in TX just became the second and third in the nation after Hays (to my knowledge) to surpass their *total* 2016 votes cast. And there's still a week of voting left.

Neanderthal, Monday, 26 October 2020 16:26 (five years ago)

Denton was +8 for Cruz over Beto in 2018, but Williamson (just north of Austin) was +2 for Beto... like the aforementioned Hayes county, Williamson used to be very Republican but has been progressively blued by Austin commuters. Williamson is still notorious among Austinites for having a predatory police force, you do not go north of Wells Branch Parkway if you're riding dirty.

thousand-yard spiral stairs (f. hazel), Monday, 26 October 2020 16:33 (five years ago)

yeah man, not just Covid 20 but I thought we would be on a totally new pandemic by now, get with the programme viruses.

WAs thinking there might be something else hatching out of the various current environmental situations.
Hasdn't been has there, I mean if Covid is stealing all the oxygen nothing is being ignored is it?

various pathogens thawing out of the ice as ice cover tahts thousands of years old appearing or anything?

Stevolende, Monday, 26 October 2020 16:37 (five years ago)

I think I'm finally in a place where I'm willing to accept that Trump will almost certainly lose, and probably lose badly. But I still think there's going to be awfulness up to and including SC-related fuckery such that even a clear + decisive win for Biden on election night won't do what it's supposed to do to my serotonin levels.

xpost Texas early voting: Just for comparison's sake, in 2018 Harris County (Austin) was +50 for Beto

thousand-yard spiral stairs (f. hazel), Monday, 26 October 2020 16:41 (five years ago)

I'm with you OL. until the electors vote I'm probably still going to be on edge.

and even after he wins...it's not like 2020 in a non-pandemic society, where I can go about my daily life unencumbered worrying about Trump in 2021. yay, my mind gets to return to COVID-19, and what kind of trolling Trump will do to make that even worse in his last two months on the job.

i can't believe these words came out of jared kushner's mouth, wow!!

The backlash was swift against Jared Kushner Monday shortly after he suggested on that Black people must “want to be successful” so that his father-in-law’s policies can help them.

After telling “Fox and Friends” that he had an “in-depth and respectful policy discussion” with rapper Ice Cube — who told the network the day before that he had spoken with Trump administration officials recently to collaborate on its Platinum Plan that aims to invest $500 million into Black communities — Kushner launched into a tone-deaf lecture.

“Again, one thing that we have seen in a lot of the Black community, which is mostly Democrat, is that President Trump’s policies are the policies that can help people break out of the problems that they’re complaining about,” Kushner said. “But he can’t want them to be successful more than that they want to be successful.”

Are U. of Wisconsin/YouGov reputable snake oil salesman?

Wisconsin -- Biden +9
Michigan -- Biden +10
Pennsylvania -- Biden +8

That would be the election right there.

― clemenza, Monday, October 26, 2020 10:29 AM (two hours ago) bookmarkflaglink

yougov is not snake oil, but they're a British pollster and they don't have a great record in the US.

xpost to clemenza -- yep, I'm playing with the map and basically not seeing any way for Biden to lose if he takes those 3.

here's one: everything goes like it did in 2016, except those states, which take weeks to call their results, during which time the courts intervene.
