not the one you're thinking of... google "digital spy bake off pastry" (contains spoilers) and you'll see.

oh, wait, i forgot about the spoiler tag The pie shown being smashed to pieces was done by paul during judging so didn't affect the result but looked terrible in the trailers

koogs, Wednesday, 21 October 2020 14:48 (five years ago)

The arch/tube was shown collapsing on last week's "in the next episode" montage, the adverts all week and the "coming up later" at the top of the show. Pretty sure they didn't reveal whose it was though.

I'm not a veteran but is it always this difficult to pick a winner? It could absolutely be any of the final seven (bar Lottie, maybe, who as much as I love her, always seems on the verge of a calamity).

Vanishing Point (Chinaski), Wednesday, 21 October 2020 15:07 (five years ago)

linda has seemed the likely boot for some time now; I'm assuming marc e is next.

Fuck the NRA (ulysses), Wednesday, 21 October 2020 15:44 (five years ago)

Final three to be Hermine, Laura and Peter.

Lottie will have a meltdown over something comparatively simple in the next couple of weeks and Dave will crash and burn the week before the final after trying something too complicated, driven there by Paul claiming they were 'playing it safe' the two weeks beforehand.

(hidden text spreading like kudzu, what have i wrought?)

koogs, Wednesday, 21 October 2020 16:43 (five years ago)

I never click on this thread until I've seen the latest episode, seems a manageable way to avoid spoilers?

Walter Draggedman (stevie), Thursday, 22 October 2020 10:04 (five years ago)

making the same policy myself, at least until Flagging incorporates the new hidden text feature. which i appreciate you all using!

Doctor Casino, Thursday, 22 October 2020 17:26 (five years ago)

Great misleading trailer though

I've watched enough Hell's Kitchen to call that one as a lead-in o a disaster.
I've stopped watching the wee spoilery end bits that trail the following week.

here we go, ten in a rona (onimo), Friday, 23 October 2020 09:19 (five years ago)

lol @ ian rush

koogs, Friday, 23 October 2020 20:26 (five years ago)

my wife says they actually showed a clip of one of them collapsing ahead of time

was this hermine's - a box shape - which collapsed when mr. hollywood grasped at it? the moment was shown out of context in the next-week preview montage at the end of the previous week's ep giving the impression that it might have been one of those exciting baking mishaps.

conrad, Friday, 23 October 2020 20:37 (five years ago)

linda making choux THREE times in the technical — they should have just escorted her out of the tent there

i mean, her making literal samosas instead of pasties had me yelling at the tv so i am not sad she left

she was like a nostalgia vampire, just like an endless stream of Milly Molly Mandy stories, riding to school on horseback, fetching milk from the cow, churning yer own butteh BE GONE

terminators of endearment (VegemiteGrrl), Saturday, 24 October 2020 05:40 (five years ago)

(i used to love Milly Molly Mandy though)

terminators of endearment (VegemiteGrrl), Saturday, 24 October 2020 05:41 (five years ago)

her eclairs looked like churros

Fuck the NRA (ulysses), Saturday, 24 October 2020 05:53 (five years ago)

lol they totally did!

terminators of endearment (VegemiteGrrl), Saturday, 24 October 2020 06:00 (five years ago)

She must have been encouraged to be that much of a caricature surely? It did become a bit bizarre. (The story about her daughter did break me, mind.)

Vanishing Point (Chinaski), Saturday, 24 October 2020 08:42 (five years ago)

we found her really sweet and charming, nice smile....but i always root for the seasoned older lady bakers who give a sense of having literally decades of experience building up rules of thumb. iirc she scored big in an early technical on a dish she'd never made, just from working out "hmm, it sounds like it's probably basically like this type of dough...." which i always enjoy seeing.

not that that's ever enough to win the season in itself but i'd rather see those types make it to the mid-game at least, it's a show about amateur bakers after all.

Doctor Casino, Saturday, 24 October 2020 17:03 (five years ago)

true

i just was turned off by her dottiness this time. though i loved Val & Flo & the other old dears so i think just something about Linda annoyed me this time around

terminators of endearment (VegemiteGrrl), Saturday, 24 October 2020 17:28 (five years ago)

I don't think Linda made literal samosas. She made samosa-type filling, but the exterior wasn't samosa-type pastry. They looked delicious IMO.

JRN, Saturday, 24 October 2020 18:29 (five years ago)

ok fine: they were the closest thing to a samosa you could get without making an actual samosa

terminators of endearment (VegemiteGrrl), Saturday, 24 October 2020 18:32 (five years ago)

i woulda noshed so many of the savory things that round. not the fish ones maybe.

Doctor Casino, Saturday, 24 October 2020 18:48 (five years ago)

those cheese & onions looked like the goods, also Irish mark’s spicy indian ones

terminators of endearment (VegemiteGrrl), Saturday, 24 October 2020 19:24 (five years ago)

even lottie's which we were a little skeptical of at the beginning turned out as sth we'd devour

loved seeing laura's tart get the love it deserved! several of the "cages" were really impressive

Doctor Casino, Saturday, 24 October 2020 19:40 (five years ago)

yeah the all-in ones like Laura’s and Peters were incredible, just for the fact that they came off the form in one piece- but all of them were p amazing, really

also god i’m dying for an eclair after that technical lol

terminators of endearment (VegemiteGrrl), Saturday, 24 October 2020 19:46 (five years ago)

otmmmmmm

Doctor Casino, Saturday, 24 October 2020 21:25 (five years ago)

Peter has such fine features, he looks like a Victorian-era doll somehow
quite the baker too!

i forget who got star baker this week - was it him or hermine?

terminators of endearment (VegemiteGrrl), Saturday, 24 October 2020 22:04 (five years ago)

it wasn't Laura? lol i watched this this morning and can't remember

Doctor Casino, Sunday, 25 October 2020 01:31 (five years ago)

it was laura

call all destroyer, Sunday, 25 October 2020 01:32 (five years ago)

terminators of endearment (VegemiteGrrl), Sunday, 25 October 2020 01:57 (five years ago)

I recently found out that my local supermarket sells paneer, which I've been obsessing over, and seeing Mark's made me instantly want to make my own, it away least a dish with the same ingredients.

I want to luhbahguh babum gum (Leee), Sunday, 25 October 2020 03:35 (five years ago)

Lottie is my fave but it feels like she's due to go home soon.

Somewhere upthread after just one episode I said I thought Matt seemed like a dud ... halfway through, I think it's worse than that. I think he detracts from the show. I don't think I've cracked a smile at one of his bits yet.

alpine static, Sunday, 25 October 2020 04:21 (five years ago)

Still enjoying the show, mind you. Just doing so despite Matt. I don't know what they were thinking with him ...

alpine static, Sunday, 25 October 2020 04:22 (five years ago)

Prue's left the Tory party because of the food standards thing related to the Brexit she voted for, which she already knew about because everyone fucking told her about but she didn't believe because these fucking thick choads are in permanent denial of the inevitable results of every shitty fucking decision they ever make

Change Display Name: (stevie), Sunday, 25 October 2020 12:12 (five years ago)

Her son Danny Krueger is still a SPAD at Number 10.

oh shit King Louis :( loved watching him bake

rip. seemed like such a lovely guy

terminators of endearment (VegemiteGrrl), Tuesday, 3 November 2020 16:34 (five years ago)

His season was the first I watched, he was such a force in the tent, and that two-fisted gif of him is all-time. :(

I wanted to mention that although I really enjoyed Japanese week, I thought it a tremendous missed opportunity that it happened so long after Kim-Joy was a contestant.

I want to luhbahguh babum gum (Leee), Tuesday, 3 November 2020 17:26 (five years ago)

agreed

terminators of endearment (VegemiteGrrl), Tuesday, 3 November 2020 17:29 (five years ago)

gawd icecream is stressful

terminators of endearment (VegemiteGrrl), Saturday, 7 November 2020 08:21 (five years ago)

Sad to see Lottie go, I had a bit of a crush on her.

chap, Saturday, 7 November 2020 10:29 (five years ago)

showstopper for this was painful. i feel like if a frozen component is required, the challenge should be broken up into blocks, like they've done sometimes when something has to prove a long time or w/e --- "gotta be in the freezer by x time, then we reconvene tomorrow." because when would britain's best amateur baker EVER try to make the whole ice cream shebang in one sprint like that, with or without hot weather? i mean obviously some people managed it just fine, but it just seems kinda cheap. let the focus be on outright bad decisions, like including things that will be tooth-breakingly hard when frozen.

Doctor Casino, Saturday, 7 November 2020 12:08 (five years ago)

Yeah, they could lean into this next year, if they have to go into complete seclusion again. No point in cramming everything into one day's shooting if you are all there for the whole week anyway. Make it more like the pros.

trishyb, Saturday, 7 November 2020 12:45 (five years ago)

or have "wolverine week" where one angry wolverine is roaming the kitchen... how will they cope?

i believe that (s)he is sincere (forksclovetofu), Saturday, 7 November 2020 22:09 (five years ago)

I am so so so sad Lottie's gone :(
