Betty Boothroyd, 91. I'm not really surprised the old fucker is still going but I remember thinking she must be at least 91 at some point like 2006 or similar.

calzino, Monday, 19 October 2020 23:37 (five years ago)

lots of melty folk getting excited about Betty excoriating Boris Johnson in the House of Lords is a perfect illustration of a what a degenerate shithole the UK is. But I enjoyed much more listening to her on the British Audio Archives talking about living through the 30's depression in Dewsbury when her mum was working in a factory and her dad was an unfashionable house-husband.

Always genuinely surprised he's still here. Is he still living in a van?

Ned Trifle X, Friday, 6 November 2020 10:49 (five years ago)

He won a court case for $5 million for two decades in back royalties six years back, so hopefully not. But even when he was reported to be living in the van, it was parked outside a four-bedroom home his lawyer rented for him, that he was "too paranoid" to go inside.

@oneposter (✔️) (sic), Friday, 6 November 2020 11:00 (five years ago)

Apparently he didn't see the $5m because it was appealed but having now googled him it seems the Jackson estate bought up his back catalogue last year, so maybe now he's getting something?

Ned Trifle X, Friday, 6 November 2020 11:12 (five years ago)

had a shockingly large role in the Independence Day sequel a couple years back!

Doctor Casino, Friday, 6 November 2020 13:28 (five years ago)

Also spotted in Sharknado 2 on one of the down-the-dial Freeview UK channels the other day. Driving a cab, natch.

Michael Jones, Friday, 6 November 2020 13:30 (five years ago)

Judd Hirsch played Marc Maron"s dad who lived in a van out the front of Maron's house on the sitcom 'Maron'

Star of Blue Thunder!?

Josh in Chicago, Sunday, 8 November 2020 16:56 (five years ago)

I think that's a sign, because I was just looking up something about Dan O'Bannon, and didn't realize he wrote the Blue Thunder script. Then I thought, huh, I haven't seen the Blue Thunder movie since I was a kid, I should watch it. And now this call back to the TV show? I think I'm in.

latebloomer, Sunday, 8 November 2020 22:21 (five years ago)

this doesn't even belong on this thread but i don't know where to put it. there was a guy i went to law school with and he lived near me. we would sometimes talk at the bus stop, he was really nice. after he graduated he took a rock climbing trip somewhere and he ended up falling from a boulder and he died from the head injury. he was a bon iver fan (i mean this was 2009) and the facebook page about his death had something about a bon iver song. since i don't have any reason to ever think of him but like once a year i run across a reference to bon iver, the idea of him dying has been replaced in my brain with "the guy from bon iver died." then i have to say to myself, "no, not him." i will persist in doing this until he dies for real or i die.

I've mentioned her before, but still alive at 94 is Jane Withers, once a child star rival of Shirley Temple, and one of America's top ten box office attractions of 1938 and 1939.

She retired at age 21, back in 1947.
