If they had anything on Biden, it would've been made public months ago. They have nothing but the promise of another scandal, just you wait... my healthcare plan and the new Biden scandal will be released in a few days.

Every RALLY is BOFFO.

Laptop is devastating!

Cilizza?

frogbs, Monday, 19 October 2020 18:03 (five years ago)

i feel like if they had good stuff on biden they would not wait until 25% of the 2016 turnout had already voted, just throwing that out.

𝔠𝔞𝔢𝔨 (caek), Monday, 19 October 2020 18:06 (five years ago)

538 still gives him a 1 in 7 shot, I'm still worried

frogbs, Monday, 19 October 2020 18:06 (five years ago)

Switching back to that Fauci phone call for a second...This was with campaign staffers today? Wow, that's a fast leak.

clemenza, Monday, 19 October 2020 18:07 (five years ago)

i think right now it's 1 in 8 (12 out of 100), but yep, i will never be comfortable, and i want to see that go down to 1 in 20

NYT: Among some of Mr. Trump’s lieutenants, there is an attitude of grit mixed with resignation: a sense that the best they can do for the final stretch is to keep the president occupied, happy and off Twitter as much as possible, rather than producing a major shift in strategy...

Andy the Grasshopper, Monday, 19 October 2020 18:16 (five years ago)

a couple years ago someone on Twitter said it's possible for Trump to lose the popular vote by 6-7 million in 2020 yet still squeak out the EC, that's the thing that haunts me

frogbs, Monday, 19 October 2020 18:17 (five years ago)

BREAKING: Trump's puppet DNI John Ratcliffe says that HUNTER BIDEN'S LAPTOP is not part of a Russian Disinformation Campaign!!!!111

Holy moly, this was the blockbuster October surprise that we never expected.

Jersey Al (Albert R. Broccoli), Monday, 19 October 2020 18:26 (five years ago)

keep the president occupied, happy and off Twitter as much as possible

Considering he caught COVID-19 very recently, perhaps they should consider keeping him... increasingly isolated. (bada-boom)

'Grit mixed with resignation'? Sounds like someone needs a laxative.

OrificeMax (Old Lunch), Monday, 19 October 2020 18:50 (five years ago)

Reporter writing up that story knows that when you have anonymous informants feeding you juicy bits you want to cast them in the best possible light. Ergo, "grit mixed with resignation" instead of "hating to go to work each day knowing its going to be a bloodbath and desperately seeking for some way to protect their future careers by deflecting the blame to the president, who deserves it anyway."

For a second I thought I was on the New Yorker thread and you scared the shit out of me.

Anyway. It took my friend 4 hours to vote this morning.

Josh in Chicago, Monday, 19 October 2020 19:46 (five years ago)

lol no one wants to see that!

(•̪●) (carne asada), Monday, 19 October 2020 19:49 (five years ago)

Haberman was posting snippets from the call re him venting about Fauci as it happened, Trump even said something about how he figured the press was on there and he didn't care.

Ned Raggett, Monday, 19 October 2020 19:56 (five years ago)

Pfft.

Trump campaign demands last debate on Thursday be about foreign policy instead of announced topics. https://t.co/FDEoJfyv0b

Ned Raggett, Monday, 19 October 2020 19:58 (five years ago)

lol the Hunter Biden laptop story is scanning so poorly, nobody I know is talking about it other than one or two randos. the only other mentions I saw were a) here and b) the conservative twittersphere

for the damage to work, it's got to cross party lines, like Comey's letter in 2016. if that happens, chances are it'll be self-inflicted rather than info supplied by the GOP to a news network. they're bad at this, they have been the last 4 years.

even memo-gate, which occasionally did make waves in mainstream, non-conservative media, fell apart like a diaper made out of playing cards

soaring skrrrtpeggios (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Monday, 19 October 2020 20:00 (five years ago)

he totally wants to drop out of the debate.

and he wants to do a townhall.

where he is asked questions that he himself wrote.

eat my room temperature ass (Neanderthal), Monday, 19 October 2020 20:01 (five years ago)

Elsewhere, ranting away.

"They're getting tired of the pandemic, aren't they? Getting tired of the pandemic. You turn on CNN, that's all they cover," Trump says in Prescott. He says CNN is trying to suppress voting. "People aren't buying it CNN, you dumb bastards."

— Josh Wingrove (@josh_wingrove) October 19, 2020

Ned Raggett, Monday, 19 October 2020 20:01 (five years ago)

I know Biden really doesn't have anything to gain here but I kinda wish he'd call Trump's bluff on the debate.

"People aren't buying it CNN, you dumb bastards."

broken clock strikes again!

Evans on Hammond (evol j), Monday, 19 October 2020 20:03 (five years ago)

Don't worry; Trump has a plan.

Trump will bring up Biden's ties to Ukraine at debate, adviser says

A senior adviser to the Trump campaign said on Monday that President Trump will not let it slide if Thursday’s debate moderator NBC News’ Kristen Welker fails to question Joe Biden about his son Hunter Biden’s business dealings in Ukraine that were exposed by The Post last week.

“If Kristen Welker, the moderator, doesn’t bring it up, I think you’re pretty safe to assume that the president will. Again, these are real simple questions,” Jason Miller said on Fox Business’ “Mornings with Maria.”

I really want Trump to pound the podium, interrupt constantly to ask why nobody's talking about Biden and Ukraine, and eventually just start slobbering and shouting "Burisma! Burisma!" over and over again...ultimately forcing Biden to say, "Ukraine? You mean the whole thing you were impeached over?"

but also fuck you (unperson), Monday, 19 October 2020 20:03 (five years ago)

he will

Patriotic Goiter (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Monday, 19 October 2020 20:07 (five years ago)

Just realized that Trump going off on Fauci was a response to a 60 Minutes interview (maybe preemptive, not sure). So evidently it's not a leak, he wanted it out there. More A-1 strategizing.

clemenza, Monday, 19 October 2020 20:11 (five years ago)

i think he wants to do a debate. He just doesn't want to do another one where covid is the main subject, which, well, fair enough, i'd also want my responsibility for the deaths of 100,000 people to be off the agenda.

𝔠𝔞𝔢𝔨 (caek), Monday, 19 October 2020 20:13 (five years ago)

"Wah, it is so unfair that this debate should touch on such left-field, gotcha subjects as fighting Covid, American families, race in America, climate change, national security and leadership!"

Josh in Chicago, Monday, 19 October 2020 20:13 (five years ago)

He doesn't want to debate, he wants to berate.

Josh in Chicago, Monday, 19 October 2020 20:14 (five years ago)

also that letter is a bit unhinged but it doesn't read like trump dictated it, and i'm skeptical he even realizes covid is a bad subject for him, so i think an adult on his team is trying to do this. i'm sure he wants to debate. he thinks he's good at it.

𝔠𝔞𝔢𝔨 (caek), Monday, 19 October 2020 20:15 (five years ago)

I mean, he was even complaining about a Lincoln Project ad he saw last night. (So, say what you want about them, they are apparently continually good at getting in his brain.)

Ned Raggett, Monday, 19 October 2020 20:15 (five years ago)

He's irate, he won't debate, but will berate, a big mistake, the truth dilate, special date, the animal we ate, at ninety-eight we all rotate.

𝔠𝔞𝔢𝔨 (caek), Monday, 19 October 2020 20:21 (five years ago)

Does he know he doesn't have to wait till election day - that if he's so sick of being president, he can just quit? I mean, he won't get to declare bankruptcy, which is his usual squid-ink strategy, but he could just walk away...

but also fuck you (unperson), Monday, 19 October 2020 20:23 (five years ago)

if everyone in the US, including children and especially infants, could contribute $1 each, we could pay him $350M to leave a few months early

I liked his Patty Hearst book from 2016.

Re; Lincoln Party:

“Never Trumpers” are key to Biden’s Lead... This group of Republicans currently voting for Biden account for 4% of all voters nationwide. If they were voting for President Trump instead, the race would be dead even. #Elections 2020 https://t.co/rJFVlUapcw via @politicaliq

— Scott Rasmussen (@ScottWRasmussen) October 19, 2020

Josh in Chicago, Monday, 19 October 2020 20:33 (five years ago)

Rasmussen...that seems very specious to me, that there are that many of them.

clemenza, Monday, 19 October 2020 20:36 (five years ago)

they're no more key to his lead than anyone else who also voted for clinton four years ago.

there's no reason to pay more attention to them than the (much bigger) groups of people who have changed from staying home to voting, or from obama to trump.

and there is no need to pander to them. they have no one else to vote for.
