Fuck the NRA (ulysses), Friday, 9 October 2020 18:20 (five years ago)

All the tweets shouting about how people need to be indicted etc really do feel like a real-life version of the Hitler meme scene.

i see that Amy McGrath is way down in her race against McConnell, or at least she was last month at this time (53 to 41, from Quinnipiac)

big fucking surprise. if you're to go down, wish we could go down swinging (booker) in KY

Graham deserves presents and thanks for his work. I'll be damned if he's getting them from me, though.
(Ironically, I was going to buy him something off of his wishlist right before this spectacularly unimpressive hissy fit. I'm sorry to rain on everyone's parade, but no one's going to blackmail me into telling them they've done a good job. If this post pushes him over the edge and he deletes ILXOR, I apologize to everyone else.)
-- Dan Perry (djperr...), March 27th, 2003 3:12 AM

What happened here?

Threads like this always make me feel like I know nothing about ILX. Never heard of Graham before.

yah thats why this is all so facinating now. all this shit happened right under our noses.
― chaki (chaki), Friday, November 3, 2006 3:01 AM (thirteen years ago) bookmarkflaglink

So much for forgiveness ey? I don't know, I liked Graham. He never did anything wrong to me so I guess that makes it easier to forget/forgive? Probably.
― Nathalie (stevie nixed), Friday, November 3, 2006 4:04 AM (thirteen years ago) bookmarkflaglink

He threw a massive hissy fit of the "you all hate me and don't appreciate all the work I've done for you" then promptly started removing features from ILE to prove a point, with the intention of slowly dismantling it until people sent him Buffy DVDs. IIRC Andrew neutered his admin powers after that.
― Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, November 3, 2006 4:25 AM (thirteen years ago) bookmarkflaglink

I was not yet on ilx at this point but remembered hearing the story in the past.

Amy McGrath also running ads distancing herself from the rest of the ticket incl biden that are being shown over the border in Ohio.

MN, WI, and VA already past 20% of the 2016's total votes cast. FL (14%) and MI (17%) close to that marker.

this being the US politics thread I took “Graham” to be Lindsey O., “hissy fit” and all. confusing, to say the least.

Sometimes I'll tell my family I'm not doing something until I get Buffy DVDs and have never explained the joke. After a few years my wife said "I guess this is some ILX thing."

just watched the full version of that for the first time, about 20 minutes long. the whole thing is chilling. i knew most of the context, but it was very creepy to watch him carry on for a full TEN MINUTES after that moment happened, improvising blatantly false promises ("uhm, the communist executive committee met just this morning and approved an increase in your wages from 2000 to 2200!"). His comrades on the balcony and the first couple rows of the audience (where his stooges were positioned) continued to clap along and chant and smile, even after the collapse must have been evident...or maybe it wasn't, yet?

president of my cat (Karl Malone), Friday, 9 October 2020 20:25 (five years ago)

at any rate, it's wishful thinking that trump could ever face such a moment

you may say I'm a dreamer

but I'm not the only one

It's quite something to realise what it means that he was in power for 24 years. Imagine another 20 years of Trump. Actually, ew, don't.

Finally, getting back to what's really been on every American's mind for months, Iran.

Josh in Chicago, Friday, 9 October 2020 20:45 (five years ago)

what was rush's response to that? i'm assuming it was "yes sir, mr president you're exactly right"

president of my cat (Karl Malone), Friday, 9 October 2020 21:00 (five years ago)

I think I've said this but I really do worry (assuming a Biden win, etc) that one of the first foreign policy challenges faced by a new administration will be an Iranian-sponsored assassination attempt against Trump

sound of scampo talk to me (El Tomboto), Friday, 9 October 2020 21:04 (five years ago)

I think I had just watched a Ceaucescu doc around the time of the 2016 election and I remember thinking that he might be a good analog for Trump.

longtime caller, first time listener (man alive), Friday, 9 October 2020 21:05 (five years ago)

Biden should appoint Trump ambassador to Somalia or something. You know, in the spirit of reconciliation.

Josh in Chicago, Friday, 9 October 2020 21:14 (five years ago)

@tombot are you serious or do you mean an "Iranian-sponsored" assassination attempt?

DJI, Friday, 9 October 2020 21:21 (five years ago)

iran would try to assassinate the ex-president? why?

Ask Saddam Hussein!

pplains, Friday, 9 October 2020 21:31 (five years ago)

I should have said "Iran-sponsored" and not "Iranian-sponsored"

but yes I do think Iran might be extremely interested in seeing Trump dead and seeing what the US is willing to do about it

sound of scampo talk to me (El Tomboto), Friday, 9 October 2020 21:34 (five years ago)

I would say it's more likely that there are a ton of people in the US govt that would love to get rid of Trump and start a war with Iran at the same time.

DJI, Friday, 9 October 2020 21:35 (five years ago)

Wait, he's gonna speak on a balcony?? What year is this, 1937?

Andy the Grasshopper, Friday, 9 October 2020 21:45 (five years ago)

but yes I do think Iran might be extremely interested in seeing Trump dead and seeing what the US is willing to do about it

Why the former part, if not solely to provoke the latter?

Covidiots from UHF (sic), Friday, 9 October 2020 21:49 (five years ago)

Iran has behaved a lot more rationally than the US in the last 4 years, seems very bizarre that they’d try something that brazen, esp if they think they could get some sanctions lifted through Biden.

The balcony thing makes perfect sense. He stage directed his return t the WH by way of the balcony so probably thought he looked really cool and wants to do it again. And again, everyone will broadcast it because that is what they do. Hopefully he passes out and shits himself on-mic.

Josh in Chicago, Friday, 9 October 2020 22:18 (five years ago)

He'll come out with a mask on then dramatically remove it and chuck it down to the crowd, who of course will fight tooth-and-nail for it.
