i suspect all the tweets that seem really unhinged have come during his presidency which makes sense its a stressful job lol

lag∞n, Friday, 9 October 2020 18:05 (five years ago)

yes, he's always been fucking crazy.

but also,

Dr. Negin Hajizadeh, a pulmonary/critical care physician at Northwell Health, noted that the majority of Covid patients receiving dexamethasone are on mechanical ventilation and in a state of induced coma, so they do not exhibit any behavioral side effects. But, she said, large studies show that generally 28 to 30 percent of patients will exhibit mild to moderate psychiatric side effects like anxiety, insomnia, mania or delirium after receiving steroid treatments, and about 6 percent may develop psychosis.

“When we prescribe steroids we warn our patients: ‘This may cause you to feel jittery, might cause you to feel irritable,’” Dr. Hajizadeh said. “We will tell family members, especially for our older patients, ‘This may cause insomnia, this may cause changes in eating habits and, in extreme cases, mania and impaired decision making.’”

trump has been president dexamethasone for several days

president of my cat (Karl Malone), Friday, 9 October 2020 18:06 (five years ago)

yeah he def seems currently as unhinged as hes ever been if not more

lag∞n, Friday, 9 October 2020 18:07 (five years ago)

he's growing

president of my cat (Karl Malone), Friday, 9 October 2020 18:08 (five years ago)

People forget that he also ran for President in 1999, with his running mate Melania Knauss...
Love this gem:
On the issues, Trump labeled himself "very conservative," but described his views on healthcare as "quite liberal" and "getting much more liberal", explaining "I believe in universal health care. I believe in whatever it takes to make people well and better... It's an entitlement to this country if we're going to have a great country."

Andy the Grasshopper, Friday, 9 October 2020 18:08 (five years ago)

that video where he opens with "guess who its me yr favorite president" was straight goofy lol

lag∞n, Friday, 9 October 2020 18:08 (five years ago)

Okay, that Coke tweet is the first time I've ever laughed at something Trump wrote/said.

OrificeMax (Old Lunch), Friday, 9 October 2020 18:09 (five years ago)

Doctor: This may cause insomnia, this may cause changes in eating habits and, in extreme cases, mania and impaired decision making. Wait, where is
Mark Meadows: he's out on a joyride waving hi to the people who think covid-19 is fake

president of my cat (Karl Malone), Friday, 9 October 2020 18:09 (five years ago)

How is there not a coffee table book of his tweets yet? The yahoos would love it.

Josh in Chicago, Friday, 9 October 2020 18:09 (five years ago)

think it outsell among liberals

president of my cat (Karl Malone), Friday, 9 October 2020 18:10 (five years ago)

The quote that will stay in my heart forever:

"Do you still believe in Santa? Because at seven it's marginal, right?"

jmm, Friday, 9 October 2020 18:11 (five years ago)

i dont think you can understand the trump phenomenon without recognizing how funny he is, its a huge part of his appeal to both his fans and the haters and losers

lag∞n, Friday, 9 October 2020 18:13 (five years ago)

I still can't even get over that stupid rally in 2016 where a bunch of kids opened the show by singing an anthem with the line "Deal from strength or get crushed every time"

and then Trump fuckin' stiffed em on the contract lmao

frogbs, Friday, 9 October 2020 18:14 (five years ago)

they did not reflect on the content of the lyrics vis a vis their standing at that concert

lag∞n, Friday, 9 October 2020 18:15 (five years ago)

it's always a good time to reflect on that video

clap for fascism! clap for the hitler youth!

i just want everyone to follow the law

president of my cat (Karl Malone), Friday, 9 October 2020 18:21 (five years ago)

he's funny the way a 4 year old is funny, its amusing in the sense of "can you imagine someone's brain working that way?"

there is one moment from the RNC debates that really stands out to me - Megan Kelly (I think) asks him a question like "you've called women ugly, slobs, pigs..." and Trump cuts her off to say "only Rosie O'Donnell" - it is maybe the only time I remember Trump successfully pulling off an actual joke.

frogbs, Friday, 9 October 2020 18:21 (five years ago)

feel like part of why dems "moving on" from trump and not holding anyone accountable feels inevitable is that no one will really believe or want to believe this shit actually happened a year from now, it's so ludicrous

Give me a Chad Smith-type feel (map), Friday, 9 October 2020 18:23 (five years ago)

and mitch mcconnell had _nothing_ to do with it. after all, he joined the resistance when he stopped visiting the WH because of covid19 concerns

president of my cat (Karl Malone), Friday, 9 October 2020 18:24 (five years ago)

the democratic establishment will want to move on because the idea that politicians should be held accountable for their actions threatens them, the vast majority of democratic voters will want trump et al to face consequences

lag∞n, Friday, 9 October 2020 18:26 (five years ago)

yeah, "i'll still keep drinking that garbage" is a genuinely good tweet, speaks to our time, etc.

JoeStork, Friday, 9 October 2020 18:28 (five years ago)

Trump is funny in a rare way where you can laugh with him and at him at the same time. Like he does actually have something resembling a sense of humor, but what makes him funny is always beyond just what he is conscious of.

longtime caller, first time listener (man alive), Friday, 9 October 2020 18:28 (five years ago)

yeah i mean its both he is actually consistently intentionally funny and hes just an absurd human being, which is the case with most great comedians, and then the fact that hes the most powerful person in the world and simply awful just adds this insane level of nihilistic ludicrousness

lag∞n, Friday, 9 October 2020 18:32 (five years ago)

its not like its some great secret that pathos is a big party of comedy, neediness hamming it up and so on

lag∞n, Friday, 9 October 2020 18:33 (five years ago)

who knows how the public will look back upon this time. obviously in 2008 the GOP had the aura of failure all around it but at least then it was like, I dunno, a bad NFL team that just had everything blow up in their face. here it's like a bad NFL team that also replaced their quarterback with a dog that runs away with the ball every time you try to punt. yes, Trump is a fascist, a racist, and a thin-skinned bully, but the one trait that supersedes everything about him is that he's a fucking moron. he doesn't understand anything. he's incapable of learning. he cannot explain a single issue with any level of detail. he is only capable of understanding things in terms of himself. if you try to use a metaphor with him he will take it literally. to use someone else's metaphor, he's not playing 3D Chess, he's playing the game mice play where you press a button and a pellet comes out. and yes, this is just one guy. but the entire GOP embraced him and pretended he was some kind of genius. I honestly don't know how these swing voters are gonna see this in a few years.

frogbs, Friday, 9 October 2020 18:33 (five years ago)

I never actually watched that video, omg

the people in the background are amazing, particularly the stoic Black woman who is just sitting there, watching, watching... and then, without changing her facial expression, starts bopping to the song

shout-out to his family (DJP), Friday, 9 October 2020 18:34 (five years ago)

yeah, as always with these kinds of things, it's the wide-eyed morons in the background who frighten me the most

president of my cat (Karl Malone), Friday, 9 October 2020 18:37 (five years ago)

this is the other reason it would be really convenient if he dies of COVID after the election, we're never going to get the truth & reconciliation commission we want and it will just be a source of endless frustration watching it not happen.

But it's more than that, he's like an alien who studied comedy videos but doesn't experience the normal range of human emotion.

longtime caller, first time listener (man alive), Friday, 9 October 2020 18:42 (five years ago)

hes clearly a disturbed person, thats all in the mix

lag∞n, Friday, 9 October 2020 18:43 (five years ago)

my wife works in international sales and hearing her talk about her clients' reaction to this stuff is always amusing. people are constantly asking her about Trump, not because they like him (his tariffs really hurt their business so they kinda hate him actually) but they just feel like there has to be SOMETHING there, the idea that the "greatest and richest nation on Earth" chose THIS GUY to represent them is just endlessly fascinating to them. in the pre-Covid times her parents (who are Mexican) would visit and they'd always watch these late-night comedy shows and almost every time there would be a Trump impersonator. I have to say I am jealous of these people, it must be pretty fun to watch all this from afar

frogbs, Friday, 9 October 2020 18:44 (five years ago)

it must be pretty fun to watch all this from afar

this is a dangerous game. there is part of me that thinks that i might personally be responsible for the trump era, as cosmic karmic punishment for the joy i took in following & mocking berlusconi for so many years

trust me, it’s not. just like he does in the US, he emboldens every hateful piece of shit in the rest of the world as well (I’m in the Netherlands myself, but I feel I can speak for everyone)

Regard the timeless piano balladeeress! (breastcrawl), Friday, 9 October 2020 19:21 (five years ago)

you do. it's no fun to watch from afar. He shits in all of our collective bathwater.

He is funny in the way Batman’s Adam West is funny.

Holy steroids, Trumpman!

nonsensei (Ye Mad Puffin), Friday, 9 October 2020 19:33 (five years ago)

I feel 100% the same. Every corrupt politician and wanna be fascist has been embolden by what he’s gotten away with. And everyone around the world fighting for democracy and equality has been utterly abandoned by the US.
I can tell you in Canada, a disturbing amount of our right wing politicians (and agitators) are now taking their cues from this fucking disaster.

Yeah. People get off on the fact that he offends people. His preposterousness takes the edge off his wealth, makes him somehow “not an elite.”

treeship., Friday, 9 October 2020 20:03 (five years ago)

His rallies are 50% standup. It’s the only substantive difference between him and regular openly racist republicans.

𝔠𝔞𝔢𝔨 (caek), Friday, 9 October 2020 20:03 (five years ago)

A clown president might not be so bad unfortunately this one is also a malignant narcissist and the populist forces he marshaled to victory were ethnonationalist ones

I don't think he's "funny" at all and not just in a, "he's actually very dangerous" way, but even his so-called "punchlines" aren't funny in any sense of the word either, just the same dumb catchphrase bullshit that his supporters eat up and allow him time for that smug smile shit.

soaring skrrrtpeggios (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Friday, 9 October 2020 20:08 (five years ago)

The coca cola tweet is the only actually funny thing he has done

treeship., Friday, 9 October 2020 20:09 (five years ago)

The schlockiness of the performance — trump’s performance of himself — can be sorta funny. Like the helicopter video with the epic music.

treeship., Friday, 9 October 2020 20:11 (five years ago)

yeah as I mentioned upthread the Rosie O'Donnell thing was the one time he actually nailed a punchline of any sort. maybe also the "because you'd be in jail" thing too but that was more terrifying than funny. he's just an utterly absurd person, like Tommy Wiseau it's not so much the things he says as it is the broken mind that produces such bizarre non-sequiturs
