Not sure he really believes that one though. Think he's just cooking up some fresh slop for the MAGA trough.

So sad:

Meanwhile, two sources close to Senate leadership said Trump is desperate, has zero leverage to push them to support a bill crafted by Pelosi & congressional Republicans aren’t inclined to wrap themselves any tighter to a sinking ship

— Alayna Treene (@alaynatreene) October 9, 2020

SENIOR ADMINISTRATION OFFICIALS and Hill sources tell us that they plan to work through this weekend, all next week and possibly next weekend to get a deal.

— Jake Sherman (@JakeSherman) October 9, 2020

WHO KNOWS WHY TRUMP WANTS THIS. He may want noise to fill the silence. Maybe he wants a bump in the stock market. We’re not mood readers or psychiatrists or psychics. This deal could’ve been cut 90 times between May and now.

I mean I've heard of mutual masturbation but

Limbaugh asks Trump if this is all as much fun for him now because he has to tout his own accomplishments so often.

Ned Raggett, Friday, 9 October 2020 16:36 (five years ago)

xp -- One of my suspicions to begin with was that Trump (by saying he wouldn't do stimulus until after the election) was covering for the fact that the GOP was refusing to do it. Because it didn't strike me as his style -- he doesn't personally care about GOP orthodoxy, he just wants to get elected. I think he thought it was the least bad option to take credit for what was inevitable anyway rather than look powerless. But now he winds up looking powerless anyway. Lol.

It's truly a self-owning.

Ned Raggett, Friday, 9 October 2020 16:42 (five years ago)

Yeah it was a slight miscalculation to think people would respond well to "I'm holding the economy hostage unless you vote for me!"

Serious question ... how do political experts expect raising the threat of invoking the 25th amendment to play in the overall?

Get the point? Good, let's dance with nunchaku. (Eric H.), Friday, 9 October 2020 17:01 (five years ago)

Reminding voters our president needs a straitjacket. Nothing will happen. The point is to send the flare.

Trump could just put all of this stuff to rest if he just quit or died.

Josh in Chicago, Friday, 9 October 2020 17:30 (five years ago)

imagine trump apologizing and permanently backing out of public life

it's funny how it's what almost any other person would do in his situation, years ago, but with him it is fucking impossible

It's like the dude who visibly shat himself at the party opting to ride out the night amidst his increasingly-horrified revelers rather over any of the other sanity-evincing decisions open to him.

Graham deserves presents and thanks for his work. I'll be damned if he's getting them from me, though.
(Ironically, I was going to buy him something off of his wishlist right before this spectacularly unimpressive hissy fit. I'm sorry to rain on everyone's parade, but no one's going to blackmail me into telling them they've done a good job. If this post pushes him over the edge and he deletes ILXOR, I apologize to everyone else.)
-- Dan Perry (djperr...), March 27th, 2003 3:12 AM

What happened here?

Threads like this always make me feel like I know nothing about ILX. Never heard of Graham before.

yah thats why this is all so facinating now. all this shit happened right under our noses.
― chaki (chaki), Friday, November 3, 2006 3:01 AM (thirteen years ago) bookmarkflaglink

So much for forgiveness ey? I don't know, I liked Graham. He never did anything wrong to me so I guess that makes it easier to forget/forgive? Probably.
― Nathalie (stevie nixed), Friday, November 3, 2006 4:04 AM (thirteen years ago) bookmarkflaglink

He threw a massive hissy fit of the "you all hate me and don't appreciate all the work I've done for you" then promptly started removing features from ILE to prove a point, with the intention of slowly dismantling it until people sent him Buffy DVDs. IIRC Andrew neutered his admin powers after that.
― Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, November 3, 2006 4:25 AM (thirteen years ago) bookmarkflaglink

I was not yet on ilx at this point but remembered hearing the story in the past.

this being the US politics thread I took “Graham” to be Lindsey O., “hissy fit” and all. confusing, to say the least.

just watched the full version of that for the first time, about 20 minutes long. the whole thing is chilling. i knew most of the context, but it was very creepy to watch him carry on for a full TEN MINUTES after that moment happened, improvising blatantly false promises ("uhm, the communist executive committee met just this morning and approved an increase in your wages from 2000 to 2200!"). His comrades on the balcony and the first couple rows of the audience (where his stooges were positioned) continued to clap along and chant and smile, even after the collapse must have been evident...or maybe it wasn't, yet?

president of my cat (Karl Malone), Friday, 9 October 2020 20:25 (five years ago)

at any rate, it's wishful thinking that trump could ever face such a moment

It's quite something to realise what it means that he was in power for 24 years. Imagine another 20 years of Trump. Actually, ew, don't.
