I guess, 7 more "charged" is more accurate.

soaring skrrrtpeggios (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Thursday, 8 October 2020 19:17 (five years ago)

Apparently 7 more Michigan Militia members arrested, bringing the total to 13.

I’m assuming this is more serious than the half-assed entrapment they do to Muslims.

Boring, Maryland, Thursday, 8 October 2020 19:21 (five years ago)

If they out and out got them this easily and clearly i would think they didn’t work real hard to catch them

This came from informants, so I wouldn't assume that at all.

A panicky and fumbling Trump agrees to virtual debate after all in 5...4...

Or he's just going to bitch about how unfairly he's being treated like the little bitch he is.

OrificeMax (Old Lunch), Thursday, 8 October 2020 19:36 (five years ago)

Probably the latter. Biden really doesn't gain anything letting Trump open his mouth, even in a virtual setting. Everyone's decided who they're voting for.

(show hidden tics) (WmC), Thursday, 8 October 2020 19:43 (five years ago)

he's going to double-down by holding a rally on the same night. then he'll claim that any media outlet that doesn't prioritize his rally over Biden's town hall is an enemy. that'll fire up his 30% and leave everyone else who notices to roll their eyes

How many times can someone self-sabotage throughout his dumb life and still not manage to turf out completely? Trump is like the Tootsie Pop owl of shooting himself in the dick.

OrificeMax (Old Lunch), Thursday, 8 October 2020 19:56 (five years ago)

For somebody that 30% of the country fawns over as some sort of "strong man", I'm still amazed by how much he whines about everything.

Isn't this a pretty common pattern with "strongmen" leaders though? Resentment and perceived slights are often animating factors for his brand of politics.

They don't care if he's whiny, they care if he owns the libs

Meantime on a strict timeline level it's truly amazing how badly Trump is burning out all the remaining weeks. This week is about over and he has only three left, and he hasn't been able to truly control the news on any of them for some time except in terms of him acting the fool.

Ned Raggett, Thursday, 8 October 2020 20:10 (five years ago)

xpost - I thought most "strongman" leaders were boisterous bullies more than whiners, though.

soaring skrrrtpeggios (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Thursday, 8 October 2020 20:10 (five years ago)

his sense of being treated unfairly and constantly aggrieved is the core of his appeal really

his followers are also giant whiny babies

and, as we talked about upthread it's even worse this year as more and more votes are baked in with every passing day

If Trump skips the debate, invite some crackpot third party candidate to take his place.. that'll get his goat.

Heard the interview with the Michigan AG on the radio just now. Apparently they'd been watching them for a while - some of these assholes were there at the storm the capital protest - and decided now was the time. As she put it, better to have a weak conspiracy case than a strong homicide case. Though she also stressed that the case is not weak. Also explicitly laid this at the feet of Asshole in Chief.

Well, I have to say I find this kind of liberal self-talk dangerous and perhaps a bit delusional. After all, what actually is a "tough guy"? You can psychologize away the gun lover's guns, but they still fire bullets. A bully may break your nose out of insecurity, but he still leaves you with a broken nose. So I find claims about whether they are "really" tough irrelevant.

xpost True, I shouldn't wish it into the world.

Thing with the Michigan bunch that's not getting as much play but is mentioned is that at least some local law enforcement were investigating being targeted by the suspects as well some time back. Which, I'm willing to bet, maybe providing them with more, how you say, incentive to keep an eye on these goofs.

Ned Raggett, Thursday, 8 October 2020 20:32 (five years ago)

Holy crap at that Regeneron ad.

btw fwiw NPR referred to the Michigan bunch as terrorists.
