terrifying, in my view. sorry. i know i'm prone to overreact to these kinds of things.

but they were doing this to try to start civil war II. that was the aim. and if they really would have gotten the 200 people they were looking for to kidnap whitmer and "try her for treason" before the election, they may very well have succeeded in inciting violence across the country. and i very much doubt that trump or anyone in his orbit would have the courage to do the right thing in that situation. he likes people that like him. Wolverine Watchmen are probably leaning toward Trump, i'm guessing

please, the debate must be held in person so our candidate can interrupt and talk over the entire proceedings. remote debates are not possible because the constantly disruptive behavior of our dumb boy could be easily counteracted by muting him.

given the way Trump's performed in those debates you probably want them as close to the election as possible

Not if he's bloated from steroids and gasping for breath

all Biden has going for him is Trump's humiliation

error prone wolf syndicate (Hadrian VIII), Thursday, 8 October 2020 17:49 (five years ago)

I don't think the Biden campaign is "accepting a delay." They want to go forward with the already scheduled Oct. 22 debate. The statement leaves open the possibility that that debate could be held remotely, just as the Oct. 15 debate was supposed to be. But the ball is in the Debate Commission's court now to make that decision.

God yes, Biden's dumb folksiness could 110% sell calling Trump a coward. Belittling him is the most effective tactic, if Biden's strategists had thought to pay attention to his reactions to Graydon Carter (checks notes) between 1985 and 2016.

Trump can fight his way out of a corner. He does it over and over again and people keep assuming he'll trip himself up. MAYBE this time it's different, I just wouldn't bet the farm on it.

He also loses a lot and just drops it and walks away - the fuss he makes about everything else is very effective at minimising his failures and bankruptcies and defeats.

It's more specific: https://www.detroitnews.com/story/news/local/michigan/2020/10/08/feds-thwart-militia-plot-kidnap-michigan-gov-gretchen-whitmer/5922301002/

(This was the same link btw, if you meant to post a different one?)

MCCONNELL: “I haven’t actually been to the White House since August the 6th. Because my impression was that their approach to how to handle this is different from mine and what I suggested that we do in the Senate, which is to wear a mask and practice social distancing."

dammit:

Barr and Mitch would be very very satisfying, yes; I assume McConnell has been more cautious than Barr about reducing his risk.

lots of obvious but worthwhile points here that dem leadership would do well to hammer home:
https://www.nytimes.com/2020/10/07/upshot/trump-hospital-costs-coronavirus.html

President Trump spent three days in the hospital. He arrived and left by helicopter. And he received multiple coronavirus tests, oxygen, steroids and an experimental antibody treatment.

For someone who isn’t president, that would cost more than $100,000 in the American health system. Patients could face significant surprise bills and medical debt even after health insurance paid its share.
-
Health economists are only starting to understand the full costs of coronavirus treatment, just as scientists are mapping out how the disease works and spreads. They do have some early estimates: The median charge for a coronavirus hospitalization for a patient over 60 is $61,912, according to a claims database, FAIR Health.

That figure includes any medical care during the hospital stay, such as an emergency room visit that led to admission or drugs provided by the hospital.

For insured patients, that price would typically be negotiated lower by their health plan. FAIR Health estimates that the median amount paid is $31,575. That amount, like most things in American health care, varies significantly from one patient to another.

In the FAIR Health data on coronavirus patients over 60, a quarter face charges less than $26,821 for their hospital stay. Another quarter face charges higher than $193,149, in part because of longer stays.
-
The biggest billing risk for a patient receiving treatment similar to Mr. Trump’s would probably come from helicopter rides to the hospital.

Air ambulances are expensive and often not in major health insurance plans’ networks. The median charge for an air ambulance is $38,770, according to a study in the journal Health Affairs published this year. When the helicopter trip is out of network — as about three-quarters of them are — patients are left with a median charge of $21,698 after the insurance payout.

Taking two helicopter rides, as Mr. Trump did, could plausibly result in more than $40,000 in medical debt for patients without access to their own aircraft (though of course most people do not leave the hospital by helicopter).
