huh I mistakenly thought Bone copped to ultimately pulling the lever for Trump

https://www.yahoo.com/news/ken-bone-still-wont-say-voted-131529619.html

"The power plant employee from Belleville, Ill., was selected to participate in the town hall with fellow undecided voters after answering a Gallup phone survey. Bone said he was leaning toward voting for Trump.

“They asked, ‘How likely are you to change your mind, on a scale of one to 10?‘” he explained. “One is, like, there’s no way you’ll change your mind — your candidate could murder a person on television and you’d still vote for them. And 10 was, it’s a total coin flip. And I said, like a two or a three. Like, I’m probably not going to change my mind, but I’m willing to hear what the other side has to say. And based on it being such a polarizing election, a two or a three was considered undecided.”

Chris L, Wednesday, 7 October 2020 16:39 (five years ago)

interesting, tell me more about your meaningless decision mr bone

did sarah palin drop out of politics and public life, or is she still doing the reality show thing?

president of my cat (Karl Malone), Wednesday, 7 October 2020 16:50 (five years ago)

Busy catching up on her favorite newspapers and magazines iirc.

OrificeMax (Old Lunch), Wednesday, 7 October 2020 16:53 (five years ago)

it seems like she should be having a moment right now, for real. she is just as dumb and gullible as all these trump supporters, and she used to be the patron saint of stupidity. oh well

president of my cat (Karl Malone), Wednesday, 7 October 2020 16:55 (five years ago)

she was in the news last week!

Never forgive McCain for elevating that turkey and fueling other profoundly stupid people's delusions of glory.

OrificeMax (Old Lunch), Wednesday, 7 October 2020 17:08 (five years ago)

Grandeur, glory, whatever. He helped to fuel them.

turn the jawhatthefuckever on (One Eye Open), Wednesday, 7 October 2020 17:23 (five years ago)

Decent chance McConnell suckered Trump into pulling the plug on stimulus. Party is in bust out mode. McC likely sees that Trump is finished, probably senate majority too. Get the Court seat and leave the economy as wrecked as possible to ensure a Biden admin is stillborn.

president of my cat (Karl Malone), Wednesday, 7 October 2020 17:24 (five years ago)

I feel like Marshall is rarely this cynical

Guayaquil (eephus!), Wednesday, 7 October 2020 17:27 (five years ago)

He is always, always writing fan fic though. “Decent chance.” Ok. Is that sourced, Josh?

Li'l Brexit (Tracer Hand), Wednesday, 7 October 2020 17:30 (five years ago)

yeah, he expands a bit in an exclusive TPM ~PRIME~ article. i just tazered my way in, stole an excerpt, and killed some dudes on the way back out. but here it is:

Normally it would be reasonable to ask whether anyone really thinks that cynically about governance. With Mitch McConnell not only do we know he thinks that cynically he actually acted this cynically under Barack Obama. We have a track record.

...But don’t take your eyes off this broader calculus – one separate from Trump, his state of mind, one that is above all rational. Yes, everyone should give their 110%. Everybody get out to vote. The stakes for a second Trump term are too high to take anything for granted. But for those gaming out their own moves and post-January realities, Trump’s defeat is starting to look very likely. Under normal circumstances that would lead congressional Republicans to cut Trump loose and pitch their reelection as a check on the power of a Democratic President. That would be a great card to play for a number of endangered Republican Senators at the moment. But it’s all but impossible since loyalty to Trump is now the centerpiece of Republican identity. And any move away from him would trigger a fatal backlash.

So look for more signs of this bust out scenario. Steal what you can and burn the rest down on the way out.

president of my cat (Karl Malone), Wednesday, 7 October 2020 17:30 (five years ago)

I don't get McConnell's role as Marshall describes it.

Patriotic Goiter (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Wednesday, 7 October 2020 17:31 (five years ago)

tangentially related to the economy, the stock market has already more than bounced back from yesterday's drop following trump's tweet

Xpost his role is "make turtle noises, stop things from happening"

LaRusso Auto (Neanderthal), Wednesday, 7 October 2020 17:36 (five years ago)

xp re: mcconnell's role

in marshall's scenario, i think it would just be pushing the republicans back to their natural role: minority party obstructionists with a tanked economy, pushing for austerity and fewer benefits for low-income people. that's what they're going to be anyway....

or if you mean practically how would it work, perhaps it would mcconnell telling trump that the stimulus deal has no chance of passing and just to concentrate on the election so the senate can concentrate on confirming barrett

president of my cat (Karl Malone), Wednesday, 7 October 2020 17:38 (five years ago)

You want the economy to tank 6-12 months into Biden's term, not have him enter at a nadir when any half-assed shit he does will improve the situation.

I get this part, but I don't Trump agreeing to a scenario in which by implication he loses.

🚨 Buzzfeed reports Donald Trump's ad-buy cancellations are now moving beyond Ohio and Iowa. He has scaled back TV ads significantly in Wisconsin, Michigan, and Minnesota — signaling a retreat from the Midwest.

yeah they are all in on simply crippling the certification process at this point

sleeve, Wednesday, 7 October 2020 20:38 (five years ago)

if they delay it past Dec. 14th, it goes to a vote by the states, 1 state 1 vote, and Trump "wins"

sleeve, Wednesday, 7 October 2020 20:38 (five years ago)

yeah they're all in on just fucking it up good

(•̪●) (carne asada), Wednesday, 7 October 2020 20:40 (five years ago)

scaling back the ad buys kinda signals they don't see a way to win, right?

frogbs, Wednesday, 7 October 2020 20:44 (five years ago)

they see a way to win alright

It’s so weird though because millennials span like 1981-1996 and I tend to think of myself as worlds apart from someone who was born in the 90s (absolute babies, obv.).

amazing to think the Access Hollywood tape was 4 years ago today, felt like an eternity between then and the election

I wanna say I'm nervous that Trump could somehow rebound but getting caught on tape saying something everyone knew already is a different sort of scandal than turning the entire WH into a leper colony

'We are extremely concerned with how our platform was misused with respect to the last election, and we're even more concerned about how it's being misused in the lead-up to this year's election, and we promise to look into these issues just as soon as our democracy has been thoroughly rendered a smoking ruin.'
