I'm operating under the assumption that this shit is all Scavino until proven otherwise.

OrificeMax (Old Lunch), Wednesday, 7 October 2020 03:02 (five years ago)

I know this is many many xposts, I was facilitating a workshop, but I'm not going to lie: I think I have unfriended a total of two people since Trump was elected. One of them was an early mentor of mine who turned into an insane conservative 'rebel' type who works for The Federalist, and the other is his wife.

I know absolutely no one who supports the guy, or ever has. I've lived in areas surrounded by his supporters, but never cared to get to know them too well.

Maybe it's my demographics or just my political persuasion, but I've always been mystified by people saying they had to cut off a friend because the person turned out to be a Trump supporter. Just nowhere near my experience in any way, shape, or form.

Grain of salt, don't believe it, etc. But

I can’t overstate the significance of this. Two red-state Rs, on consecutive days, telling me they’re seeing poll numbers they never thought were possible.

Their shared conclusion: Trump’s standing w/ white college+ women threatens to tank the entire party down-ballot on Nov 3. https://t.co/6HGhHtR3DI

So what's Pelosi gonna do re this stand alone stimulus check demand....I think journalist David Dayen is right. He’s been saying since the negotiations for the first Cares Act , that McConnell would want big corporate aid, and once he got that he could care less about anything else. Therefore Pelosi should have pushed harder for more in the first bill — state and local aid ( for all states), election and school assistance, unemployment supplement and small business aid till a vaccine, etc. But she gave up some of those items and now McConnell and Trump don’t care because the Fed and the first Cares Act took care of corporate America already.

Anyone who has taken steroids such as dexamethasone in far smaller doses than the president is receiving (I have) will tell you that side effects include agitation, euphoria, paranoia and on. It is DEFINITELY not a time for decisions or making an accurate assessment of situations

Ned Raggett, Wednesday, 7 October 2020 05:12 (five years ago)

I think the House should immediately push a stimulus bill exceeding what he’s just publicly agreed to and call his bluff. Duh?

sound of scampo talk to me (El Tomboto), Wednesday, 7 October 2020 05:17 (five years ago)

Acting like Pelosi is the one on the back foot now is some serious Murc’s Law bullshit

sound of scampo talk to me (El Tomboto), Wednesday, 7 October 2020 05:19 (five years ago)

But he just wants the individual checks and now does not care about Lib stuff like small business aid, states and local governments, school aid, Covid testing and tracing etc. If she pushes for a larger check than 1,200 he may say yes as he will want his little note in there again that says its from him. Pelosi should say her name has to go on a letter with the checks as well this time!

curmudgeon, Wednesday, 7 October 2020 05:23 (five years ago)

But yeah, maybe she should stick to the already approved House plan and try to win that pr battle

curmudgeon, Wednesday, 7 October 2020 05:25 (five years ago)

He can have his note because mailed checks probably wouldn't arrive until after election day.

Donald Trump Also Sucks, Of Course (milo z), Wednesday, 7 October 2020 05:27 (five years ago)

It’s not even “try to win the pr battle” at this point; polling would indicate Dems just need to stick to their guns

sound of scampo talk to me (El Tomboto), Wednesday, 7 October 2020 06:03 (five years ago)

There’s just no indication that the Democrats need to go back into the defensive crouch they basically held from 2000-2018.

NB I consider the calls for the Biden campaign to continue attack ads after Trump shit himself in the first debate and got COVID to be part of the aforementioned defensive crouch, because attack ads always come from a position of weakness imo

I mean, people said all those things, but literally every other element of the situation is completely different.

Biden is, it's true, far far better at dealing with Trump's bullshit that Hilary Clinton was, and maybe that'll be enough on its own. It's hard to understand the motivations of Trump to Biden switchers, although I suppose they must exist. I mean, how exactly can he have disappointed his voters? Can't remember a politician who has been more faithful in office to what he put out there on the campaign trail.

I think 20% unemployment and 200k dead will have surprisingly little effect electorally, but tbf I'm just some asshole British spitballing so actual amercanyets mmv

The Wealth Dad $ |_/ (Bananaman Begins), Wednesday, 7 October 2020 09:43 (five years ago)

Very different situation this time. Good chance Trump will lose badly and on the day itself, but sleepy Joe coming in to a fucked up economy without a hint of a serious plan and a tied up Supreme Court suits Republicans just fine.

Biden is coming across like a normal guy, even a nice guy, if a little old and out of touch. Trump is acting like an absolute weirdo—manic, paranoid, spiteful and grandiose. Since Americans vote “from the gut” they’re choosing between those two things. I think Biden has it.

In 2016, Trump seemed like a roguish outsider and his unpredictability had a kind of excitement to it for some voters. It was this rebel calling out the establishment. That dynamic is totally gone now; the people who still like him are just people who want to have King Lear as president and I’m sorry but there can’t be that many of them.

Duck Stamp Artists Turn to Spent Shotgun Shells to Meet New Pro-Hunting Mandate

The government art competition now requires hunting imagery, a change that some wildlife painters say undermines its conservation message.

From Politico this morning:

HAVE YOU SEEN “THE BIG LEBOWSKI”? WALTER -- played by John Goodman -- is not a big fan of DONNY, played by Steve Buscemi. During one of their famous bowling scenes, WALTER says to DONNY: “You have no frame of reference, Donny. You’re like a child who wanders in in the middle of a movie.”

DONNY, in this case, bears more than a passing resemblance to President DONALD TRUMP. HIS TWEETS TUESDAY about the Covid stimulus talks seem like he’s awaking from a monthslong slumber, unbriefed by his advisers and unaware of his surroundings as he enters the fray.

TRUMP PULLED OUT OF THE TALKS at 2:48 p.m., citing the nearly $1 trillion difference between the GOP and Democratic negotiating stances -- which many had been privately suggesting he do for some time. Then at 9:54 p.m., he suggested Congress pass “25 Billion Dollars for Airline Payroll Support, & 135 Billion Dollars for Paycheck Protection Program for Small Business,” and a $1,200 stimulus check for every American.

MAN, WHAT A STRATEGY! If you think you’ve heard this before, it’s because you have! Republicans have been suggesting stand-alone bills for months. Speaker NANCY PELOSI has even said that she would pass a stand-alone airline relief bill -- one of her chairs tried last week, and the GOP blocked it. If TRUMP had pushed for this a month ago, when Congress was in session, it might have had a chance of being successful.

They didn't get all the way to "Shut the fuck up, Donny," because they're Politico, but it's easy to see that they wanted to.

Democrats don't seem interested in reforming a system that produces these outcomes.

xyzzzz__, Wednesday, 7 October 2020 11:30 (five years ago)

The system doesn't need "reform," it needs tearing down. An amendment requires majorities in both houses of Congress and in state legislatures.

https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2020-10-07/trump-hails-his-move-to-declassify-russia-clinton-probe-details

President Donald Trump announced he has authorized the declassification of documents related to the FBI’s Russia investigation and the probe into Hillary Clinton’s use of a private email account, part of his efforts to cast aspersions on his political enemies as he falls further behind in his bid for re-election.

“I have fully authorized the total Declassification of any & all documents pertaining to the single greatest political CRIME in American History, the Russia Hoax,” Trump tweeted on Tuesday.

“Likewise, the Hillary Clinton Email Scandal. No redactions!” he said.
