The fact that the entire GOP minus like one or two people fell in line behind him is something I don't think people are going to forget in 2 years.

I can't even begin to formulate the kind of amnesia and backflips and rationales these people are going to try to sell when Trump's gone. I really can't, or how successful they'll be.

If you’re more worried about @realDonaldTrump unmasking on a balcony with no one close to him than you were by the Obama/Biden administration unmasking (aka illegally spying on) their political opponents, my diagnosis is you have TDS, & my prescription is to put down your phone.

This bootlicking worm! Remember when daddy was the cool rebel Republican for people who didn't know they were fascists yet?

Donald Trump Also Sucks, Of Course (milo z), Wednesday, 7 October 2020 01:52 (five years ago)

Assuming this is a high water mark for the democrats in the short term but that demographics make it hard for republicans to form a majority for a while then the goal should be to bake in structural reform that makes minority government harder. So passing this is a good place to start https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/For_the_People_Act_of_2019

Ted Cruz iirc

TikTok to the (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Wednesday, 7 October 2020 01:55 (five years ago)

Saw Cruz aggressively defending Trump last week. Trump called his wife ugly and his dad an accomplice to the JFK assassination.

Paul, I think Trump called him ugly too, in one of the debates, and ridiculed his 1% in the polls. (Which, I'll admit, I found funny in the moment.)

Clearly, they both owe him a debt of gratitude.

OrificeMax (Old Lunch), Wednesday, 7 October 2020 02:07 (five years ago)

the GOP will turn 2022 into 2010, i.e. Koch-funded local insurrections based, this time, on COVID spending. We'll be back to those February 2010 arguments about DEBT and OUR CHILDREN WHAT WILL WE DO

^^so much otm and i'd suggest keeping that white hot animus for Trump and his enablers alive even if/when he eats it in the general, and visiting it upon every single person in the media and congress--regardless of party--when they start this mewling bullshit. because it's coming and fuck that.

We need to have a handy booklet printed up listing everyone who enabled this fuck so that, when he's gone and they try to elbow their way back into the society they helped to cripple for short-term gain, we'll all know at a glance who can eat shit.

OrificeMax (Old Lunch), Wednesday, 7 October 2020 02:18 (five years ago)

If there’s no stimulus until Jan 22, that might force Biden/Pelosi/Schumer to not jerk off over the deficit at least.

I know this is many many xposts, I was facilitating a workshop, but I'm not going to lie: I think I have unfriended a total of two people since Trump was elected. One of them was an early mentor of mine who turned into an insane conservative 'rebel' type who works for The Federalist, and the other is his wife.

I know absolutely no one who supports the guy, or ever has. I've lived in areas surrounded by his supporters, but never cared to get to know them too well.

Maybe it's my demographics or just my political persuasion, but I've always been mystified by people saying they had to cut off a friend because the person turned out to be a Trump supporter. Just nowhere near my experience in any way, shape, or form.

So what's Pelosi gonna do re this stand alone stimulus check demand....I think journalist David Dayen is right. He’s been saying since the negotiations for the first Cares Act , that McConnell would want big corporate aid, and once he got that he could care less about anything else. Therefore Pelosi should have pushed harder for more in the first bill — state and local aid ( for all states), election and school assistance, unemployment supplement and small business aid till a vaccine, etc. But she gave up some of those items and now McConnell and Trump don’t care because the Fed and the first Cares Act took care of corporate America already.

I think the House should immediately push a stimulus bill exceeding what he’s just publicly agreed to and call his bluff. Duh?

sound of scampo talk to me (El Tomboto), Wednesday, 7 October 2020 05:17 (five years ago)

Acting like Pelosi is the one on the back foot now is some serious Murc’s Law bullshit

sound of scampo talk to me (El Tomboto), Wednesday, 7 October 2020 05:19 (five years ago)

But he just wants the individual checks and now does not care about Lib stuff like small business aid, states and local governments, school aid, Covid testing and tracing etc. If she pushes for a larger check than 1,200 he may say yes as he will want his little note in there again that says its from him. Pelosi should say her name has to go on a letter with the checks as well this time!

curmudgeon, Wednesday, 7 October 2020 05:23 (five years ago)

But yeah, maybe she should stick to the already approved House plan and try to win that pr battle

curmudgeon, Wednesday, 7 October 2020 05:25 (five years ago)

He can have his note because mailed checks probably wouldn't arrive until after election day.

Donald Trump Also Sucks, Of Course (milo z), Wednesday, 7 October 2020 05:27 (five years ago)

It’s not even “try to win the pr battle” at this point; polling would indicate Dems just need to stick to their guns

sound of scampo talk to me (El Tomboto), Wednesday, 7 October 2020 06:03 (five years ago)

There’s just no indication that the Democrats need to go back into the defensive crouch they basically held from 2000-2018.

NB I consider the calls for the Biden campaign to continue attack ads after Trump shit himself in the first debate and got COVID to be part of the aforementioned defensive crouch, because attack ads always come from a position of weakness imo

sound of scampo talk to me (El Tomboto), Wednesday, 7 October 2020 06:14 (five years ago)
