I love that "schadenfreude" is trending on Google

I can’t say I exactly feel “happy” about all of this but I have noticed a sense of calm. Whether or not he or any of them die, it’s a reminder that they’re not invincible, not immortal, not loss proof, and that this seemingly interminable phase of American life (that in fact has only been 3.75 years) will not go on forever.

It's a pattern that pops up throughout recorded history: Great Man X wreaks immense havoc upon some portion of the world and seems unstoppable in his thirst for blood and power until he has an aneurysm or falls off a horse or some shit and dies like every other human being before him. One of the only things that have gotten me through the past four years is remembering that this too shall pass.

2020 has been the worst year in most Americans' memory (because we have escaped the misery we wrought on others) - this little interlude of joy has been the bridge to realizing how bleak the future is and what 2020 itself presages.
― Donald Trump Also Sucks, Of Course (milo z), Wednesday, 7 October 2020 01:31 (five years ago)
yeah I'm sure I've mentioned this before but it does feel like this is the first time Trump has ever actually suffered the consequences of his own actions that neither Congress nor his Dad nor shady Russian bankers could pull him out of
obviously the schadenfreude is kinda blunted by the fact that he's using the opportunity to kill as many people as possible

Last Friday went a long way toward mitigating my despondency after Ginsberg's death.

Surprised by joy, let's call it.

Yeah, Ginsburg dying sent me straight into a hole. Trump getting the bug and giving it to half of the people responsible for getting Ginsburg's replacement installed reminded me that absolutely anything can happen. Trump not immediately succumbing to the bug reminded me never to pin my hopes on any particular thing happening.

In a climate where the surreal is a near constant, I still found it incredibly surreal how Trump released this high production value, slick propaganda film of his helecopter return to the White House, only to then release a video in which he says stuff like “Maybe I’m immune, I don’t know!” It’s as though in the middle of Triumph of the Will there was a Hitler speech in which he as-libbed “Jews, I mean you can’t live with em...”

The weird thing is that for the past few weeks one of my top comforting fantasies to get myself to sleep at night is imagining being in control of an insect-sized drone that goes around infecting Trump and his circle with Covid. And here it is. Maybe The Secret actually does work.

since Christie's still in the hospital I wanna pass along this anecdote. I'd find the source but come on, when you read it you'll know it's true. Anyway during the debate prep where he presumably caught this he was advising Trump to interrupt Biden a lot, because Biden has a stutter and when you have a stutter apparently you have much more difficulty regaining your train of thought, which would make Biden seem senile. guy seems a lot more personable than the others but he's just as shitty.

he used to publicly shit on teachers all the time. he was a complete asshole. It's true that bridgegate and beachgate were funny as far as scandals go, but there was nothing likeable about him.
― longtime caller, first time listener (man alive), Wednesday, 7 October 2020 02:51 (five years ago)
there's nothing likeable about any GOP politician really, all you can ask is that the scandals are at least amusing
― frogbs, Wednesday, 7 October 2020 02:52 (five years ago)
lol man they really did go all out portraying him as this no-nonsense alpha dog straight shooter, a guy who could steer the party in the post-Bush era and it all amounted to... this. and I bet he thinks it’s all because he hugged Obama

On Monday, the White House Management Office sent out an email to senior staff who routinely interact with Trump, aimed at protecting both the president and his advisers. The memo, obtained by The Washington Post, urges staffers to “limit all foot traffic on the first floor of the West Wing as well as in the Residence” and says that “staff should only go to the Oval Office or the second floor Residence when they are requested and expected.”For staffers who do visit the Oval Office or the second floor of the residence, where Trump lives and holds meetings, and who expect to be within six feet of the president, the memo also requires that they wash their hands or use hand sanitizer before entering; remove any outer garments; and don personal protective equipment provided in an “Isolation Cart” — including a yellow gown, surgical mask, protective eyewear and gloves. The White House has not changed its mask guidance and is still following Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidelines that recommend, but do not require, wearing a mask. Several administration officials said nearly everyone in the White House has been wearing a mask in recent days, including Trump’s son-in-law and senior adviser Jared Kushner, who usually does not sport one.

Several former administration officials said they were appalled at the president’s conduct over the past few days, as well as the behavior of the people around him. One such official described Trump’s decision to leave the hospital Sunday for a ride in his presidential limo, which required two Secret Service agents to be in the car with him, as “so monstrously wrong.”“In my lifetime, it was the most appalling thing I’ve seen a president do for a political stunt,” the former official said, speaking on the condition of anonymity to share a candid opinion. “It’s genuinely unhinged.”

I was going to say! Bridgegate was preceeded by 6? years of Christie showing up at townhall meetings and belittling and yelling at teachers and other middle class and lower class people who had the temerity to ask questions he didn't like. I hope his bleached fucking carcass washes up on LBI very soon.
