Spaghetti models keep shifting west, with current landfall in largely uninhabited wetlands of Vermillion Parish. If they keep shifting, its another hit (after Laura) on Cameron Parish. Possibly the least developed part of the US Atlantic coast, just what's left of wetlands after the oil companies were done. Abandoned canals through wildlife refuges, only gas stations and gun shops on the highway.

I mean, it's a hurricane. I'm sure it can muster muster to hit them both.

Grateful that it's moving pretty fast and isn't expected to get stronger than a Cat 1 because it's looking like a direct hit on Nola. In years past it'd be perfect conditions for a hurricane party.

Fuuuck, definitely gonna be a direct hit on the New Orleans area. Checked in with friends and family and everybody's still stocked up and ready from the last few near misses this year.

NOLA has some additional problems as two generator turbines in the century old electrical system (at 25 hertz), which runs half the drainage pumps, are down. The Sewerage & Water Board which runs the system is notoriously inept, probably the most hated government agency in the city.

There were (I think) at least two hurricanes that hit LA earlier this year - doesn't NOLA get hit with the rain runoff from the those? How has it been affected? Seems like a lot of water rushing down the Mississippi River this year. Or maybe not..

I'm a lot less worried about the rain than the wind. Been a long time since an eye passed over the city.

Watching wdsu now and the meteorologist is doing neighborhood by neighborhood breakdowns of how long til the eyewall hits. 10 minutes til it hits my dad's neighborhood. It's really booking it now, though.

From yesterday evening until early this morning Zeta managed to knock down trees in my Dad's yard in New Orleans, my Mom's yard in Bham and my uncle's yard east of ATL. What a wild storm.

We're only a few miles away from the forecasted landing site, but we're far enough on high land that storm surges won't affect us much. The wind and the power outages are what I'm worried about, too.
