I can’t say I exactly feel “happy” about all of this but I have noticed a sense of calm. Whether or not he or any of them die, it’s a reminder that they’re not invincible, not immortal, not loss proof, and that this seemingly interminable phase of American life (that in fact has only been 3.75 years) will not go on forever.

It's a pattern that pops up throughout recorded history: Great Man X wreaks immense havoc upon some portion of the world and seems unstoppable in his thirst for blood and power until he has an aneurysm or falls off a horse or some shit and dies like every other human being before him. One of the only things that have gotten me through the past four years is remembering that this too shall pass.

2020 has been the worst year in most Americans' memory (because we have escaped the misery we wrought on others) - this little interlude of joy has been the bridge to realizing how bleak the future is and what 2020 itself presages.

Yeah, Ginsburg dying sent me straight into a hole. Trump getting the bug and giving it to half of the people responsible for getting Ginsburg's replacement installed reminded me that absolutely anything can happen. Trump not immediately succumbing to the bug reminded me never to pin my hopes on any particular thing happening.

In a climate where the surreal is a near constant, I still found it incredibly surreal how Trump released this high production value, slick propaganda film of his helecopter return to the White House, only to then release a video in which he says stuff like “Maybe I’m immune, I don’t know!” It’s as though in the middle of Triumph of the Will there was a Hitler speech in which he as-libbed “Jews, I mean you can’t live with em...”

The weird thing is that for the past few weeks one of my top comforting fantasies to get myself to sleep at night is imagining being in control of an insect-sized drone that goes around infecting Trump and his circle with Covid. And here it is. Maybe The Secret actually does work.

since Christie's still in the hospital I wanna pass along this anecdote. I'd find the source but come on, when you read it you'll know it's true. Anyway during the debate prep where he presumably caught this he was advising Trump to interrupt Biden a lot, because Biden has a stutter and when you have a stutter apparently you have much more difficulty regaining your train of thought, which would make Biden seem senile. guy seems a lot more personable than the others but he's just as shitty.
