I truly don't understand this, and nor do a number of people who advise the president. It's like he's trying to lose. https://t.co/GNOwrZEhx9

Yes, by all means, keep the GOP united so they can all sink into the ocean together on election night.

Vice President Pence is requesting that no plexiglass dividers be placed on his side of the stage during the vice presidential debate in Utah against Sen. Kamala Harris (D-Calif.) on Wednesday, according to The Washington Post.

The Biden campaign said Monday that plexiglass dividers would be installed on the debate stage in Salt Lake City.

...Marc Short, chief of staff to Pence, said his team did not see plexiglass dividers as medically necessary, according to the Post. Other safety measures have already been agreed to, such as daily testing for both Pence and Harris and a 12-foot distance between them.

“If she wants it, she’s more than welcome to surround herself with plexiglass if that makes her feel more comfortable,” Short said according to the newspaper. “It’s not needed.”

oh idk the GOP precipitating a recession just as they’re very likely to lose both executive and legislative branches for at least two years could be the ‘smart’ play

Intellectually, I understand that the status quo was super-shitty for a lot of people before Trump came along and also that there are various harmful trends that have accelerated over the past few years (some related to Trump, some not) that won't just disappear with a Democratic president in the Oval Office and will require continued effort to address.

Emotionally, I'm exhausted and don't want to think about Trump anymore and crave some form of "normal" as relief, even if it's a mirage.

New Franklin Pierce/ Boston Herald National Poll

Biden 51% (+14)
Trump 37%

Biden up by 14pts in the Boston Herald’s national poll. In post-diagnosis polling, Biden’s lead extended to a 21pt lead (which was a 16pt swing from pre-diagnosis polling)

— Political Polls (@PpollingNumbers) October 6, 2020

21! there's no national election, this is one poll, and this is probably non-response bias that won't last to election day, but still!

Donald Trump Also Sucks, Of Course (milo z), Tuesday, 6 October 2020 21:26 (five years ago)

this friend also mentioned something about how "really not that much has changed" under Trump, which I thought was a remarkably tone deaf thing to say (especially because he takes the pandemic fairly seriously!) but he's one of those "why blame Republicans when you can blame Democrats" kind of people

my response was that even if your life isn't measurably worse somehow, even if you don't care about the cruelty at the border or the people wrecked in Puerto Rico or the environment or the massive deficit or the treason or anything else, you cannot deny how fucking shitty it's made all political discourse and the extent to which he's not only ruined friendships but destroyed familial relationships as well. even if YOU are one of those "conservatives that think Trump's a moron" a lot of people aren't and in fact hang on to every single word he says, the vast majority of which boil down to "Fuck facts, fuck minorities, and fuck all liberals", which has utterly poisoned so many relationships in my life and probably all of yours as well. I have a stepbrother that calls me "triggered" because I told him how dumb the "only 6% of Covid deaths are Covid deaths" thing was. my neighbor with a Trump sign I will never want to hang out with again. a bunch of my lifelong friends post Trump BS on Facebook all the time and I don't think I can have a good relationship with them anymore either.

it's not that the GOP hasn't always been shitty, it's that Trump has created an environment where your political alignment is your sole personality trait and has reduced every single GOP argument to the intellectual level of "the Earth is flat, every single NASA photo was faked, and I know because you can't see curvature from an airplane". every fucking week there is a new major scandal that would've tanked literally any other politician on the planet. we are governed by the stupidest, most evil motherfuckers on the planet and it's fucking terrifying since they've gotten to the stage where they don't even feel the need to hide it any more. Biden winning ain't gonna fix everything but its not healthy to have this much politics in your life, especially not politics where the only fucking thing that matters is triggering people. so yeah. pretty excited for President Biden right now!!

frogbs, Tuesday, 6 October 2020 21:26 (five years ago)

I fucking hate how everything about Trump is so implausible it's basically turned literally everything into a conspiracy theory. He's the the most exceptional exception that's become the rule, so now everything is an exception.

Josh in Chicago, Tuesday, 6 October 2020 21:35 (five years ago)

I was excited about election night 2016 solely because I assumed it meant the end of Trump being a constant voice and presence in the background of my daily life. I'm equally excited about this election for the same reason. Just hope it doesn't drag on for weeks after election night.

Polling was 9/29-10/6. The "sexting" was revealed on 10/2, so...right in the middle of it.

I saw another poll that was taken on 10/4-10/5 that showed Cunningham up 48-42; the pollster characterized the race as "unaffected by recent developments."

Ivanka or Don Jr coming along in 2028 to avenge their father is going to be one hell of a dark sequel.

neither one of them has any of the charisma that trump does. even if you think trump has no charisma, which, fair, what is less than zero? ivanka and don jr. one of don jr's main problems is that he has never accomplished anything at all. ivanka is a training video AI
