if you've lost Erick Erickson...

Talked to a friend who lost two relatives to COVID and she is so angry with the President. Then had the same conversation with a different person. I get the sense outside the Twitter bubble that it isn’t going over well.

and as soon as he gets back, he declares all negotiations over?

is he throwing a pissy fit because not every single democrat had positive things to say about his ongoing superspreader status?

Potential preview of things to come, eventually. This morning we got a note from my daughter's piano teacher apologizing for the appearance of a few Trump/Pence signs on her front lawn overnight, emphasizing not just how Trump's very name is something to be ashamed of, but also that's it's a prank-ready punchline, like subscribing someone to Fat Ass Monthly magazine or something. I mean, are there places in this country, even in deep red states, where the appearance of a *Biden* sign on someone's front lawn would actually require an apology? Extra security, perhaps, but not panicked emails to piano students.

It's funny that when someone like Erick Erickson decides it's time to figure out what's going on "outside the Twitter bubble," he turns, not to polls of hundreds of randomly selected people, but to a couple of friends of his.

I've been saying it since the beginning, if you want to understand people's reaction to Trump you really need to spend less time studying Mussolini or whatever and more time studying families with abusive fathers.

for a brief second I wondered if maybe he understands that the likelihood of him winning is incredibly low, and figured why not fuck everything as much as possible on the way out (v much in keeping with his party and cohort)

Oh yeah I saw this one on the road, the caption was "No man, No Woman, No Commie Can Stump Him".

"Stump" is such a bizarre choice on any level, especially paired with the iconography of noted quiz show champion Rambo.

i spend so much time thinking about how much i hate Trump for being a fascist, racist asshole, that i never really sit down and process what an absolute fucking dumbass he is.

like it's not news that he's a complete moron! i used to be a real hot pencil at doing impressions of Trump interview transcripts! but the real-life horror of the last four years has sorta blotted out my day to day comprehension of the fact that one of the dumbest people i've ever beheld is the President of the United States.

Doctor Casino, Tuesday, 6 October 2020 19:50 (five years ago)

I’ve thought of the angle in that tweet a lot but didn’t want to be caught betting on the favorite.

Erdős-szám 69 (James Redd and the Blecchs), Tuesday, 6 October 2020 19:52 (five years ago)

Doesn't Trump know he could just not run? That would be the perfect end, if the night before the election he just says fuck it and quits.

Josh in Chicago, Tuesday, 6 October 2020 19:58 (five years ago)

yeah the "abusive dad" thing came across pretty loud and clear during the debate

the reason why I somewhat suspect he is doing this as a political move is because this is exactly the sort of dumbass strategy he's been tweeting about since Obama was president

Vice President Pence is requesting that no plexiglass dividers be placed on his side of the stage during the vice presidential debate in Utah against Sen. Kamala Harris (D-Calif.) on Wednesday, according to The Washington Post.

The Biden campaign said Monday that plexiglass dividers would be installed on the debate stage in Salt Lake City.

...Marc Short, chief of staff to Pence, said his team did not see plexiglass dividers as medically necessary, according to the Post. Other safety measures have already been agreed to, such as daily testing for both Pence and Harris and a 12-foot distance between them.

“If she wants it, she’s more than welcome to surround herself with plexiglass if that makes her feel more comfortable,” Short said according to the newspaper. “It’s not needed.”

Intellectually, I understand that the status quo was super-shitty for a lot of people before Trump came along and also that there are various harmful trends that have accelerated over the past few years (some related to Trump, some not) that won't just disappear with a Democratic president in the Oval Office and will require continued effort to address.

Emotionally, I'm exhausted and don't want to think about Trump anymore and crave some form of "normal" as relief, even if it's a mirage.

New Franklin Pierce/ Boston Herald National Poll

Biden 51% (+14)
Trump 37%

Biden up by 14pts in the Boston Herald’s national poll. In post-diagnosis polling, Biden’s lead extended to a 21pt lead (which was a 16pt swing from pre-diagnosis polling)

— Political Polls (@PpollingNumbers) October 6, 2020

21! there's no national election, this is one poll, and this is probably non-response bias that won't last to election day, but still!
