Trump literally had a heart attack walking up the stairs.

when he gets off the helicopter that preposterous little boy across the playground wave

error prone wolf syndicate (Hadrian VIII), Tuesday, 6 October 2020 01:09 (five years ago)

there is no way the ceremonial trappings of the presidency will ever regain any kind of seriousness again after this
well that's a nice thought

the typo doer (Simon H.), Tuesday, 6 October 2020 01:12 (five years ago)

the more I think about this the more I feel like he's on Day 10-11 right now and we don't know because he never got tested

frogbs, Tuesday, 6 October 2020 01:15 (five years ago)

I notice they didn't show him walking down the steps from the helicopter. He was at the top and the next shot shows him stepping onto the ground. He seemed shaky with the stairs in the hospital clip too.

nickn, Tuesday, 6 October 2020 01:19 (five years ago)

and only started showing hospital-worthy symptoms on day 7? seems odd. also: with covid you can be hypoxic and still not feel short of breath. Plenty of accounts of people whose sats are extremely low (below 50) and they're still chatting away and don't feel oxygen-deprived. xp

This guy does the perfect job of managing both to say "he might be wriggling out of it" and "there's still hope"

(1/5) To put Trump being started on dexamethasone in perspective, we do it for patients when they become hypoxic

Some patients I've had are on remdesivir/dexa like Trump is now & only require a touch of oxygen (eg, 2L) for a day or two & then come off it.

He probably did a really cool jump and kick, Van Damme style

and a grown man in a Rocksteady costume got in his way and he kicked him right in the face. dude wobbled a bit and almost even went down!

Quiet Storm Thorgerson (PBKR), Tuesday, 6 October 2020 01:46 (five years ago)

I don't put it past Trump to recover via pure malevolent energy despite daring Covid to come take him. He knows less than 10% of people his age die (has improved from 20% since April) and he's playing the percentages. At this point Trump may prefer death to defeat, because his post-Presidency life is looking like one long string of charges and lawsuits.
Also, returning to the White House and spreading Covid around maximizes the number of Trump staff, officials, etc. who can be at the debates to shed virus and potentially infect Biden. Biden does not look like a guy who would do well with Covid. Giving Biden fatal Covid is Trump's only path to a victory that wouldn't require multiple state legislatures, Supreme Court etc. to partner with Trump to tear apart the US electoral system.

Bnad, Tuesday, 6 October 2020 02:08 (five years ago)

look I was gonna say "no way does Trump have a secret death wish" but then again he just goes to the WH and takes his mask off knowing he's got a contagious deadly disease I just don't fucking know anymore

frogbs, Tuesday, 6 October 2020 02:13 (five years ago)

i mean, he already has it. taking off the mask is only endangering others.

treeship., Tuesday, 6 October 2020 02:19 (five years ago)

this sounds like a joke or a goof but i really believe it: i think trump wanted to go home so he could jack off. he believed the doctors would see him if he did it at the hospital

error prone wolf syndicate (Hadrian VIII), Tuesday, 6 October 2020 02:44 (five years ago)

I find it pretty obvious that the situation is this: Trump is in better shape but still at risk of worsening condition, as we often see happen with COVID (ups and downs), and because of his obsession with looking strong and looking like a winner, he insisted on going back to the White House as early as possible to project that he was fine (even though he probably isn't totally fine), with his doctors agreeing because there is high level medical care available at the white house and he wasn't in critical condition. And he does, in fact, have pretty good odds of recovering, as his top notch medical care mitigates substantially against his risk factors (which still probably put him at 80-90% survival, other things being equal).

I really will never understand why Saturday Night Live hired Alec Baldwin to play Trump when Christopher Walken was right there. Queens accent and all.

Walken likely had better things to do. Baldwin, less so.

No way I’m watching the video he tweeted 1h ago but I am indeed curious to know whether it’s as ‘incoherent’ as The Guardian claims. Like, more so than his usual verbal diarrhea?

As usual, putting punctuation on it makes it look a lot more coherent than it would be if transcribed as the actual stream of semi-consciousness that floats out of the glowing ham protruding from his suit.

Here's the full transcript of the president's video message upon leaving the hospital with a virus that has killed more than 210,000 Americans: pic.twitter.com/Aemfbwk6l9

Including him.

when he gets off the helicopter that preposterous little boy across the playground wave

His wave has been getting progressively lower - he seems no longer capable of the typical strong right arm above the head wave that presidents do.
I think that's been the case since his late night "routine medical checks" last year.
If you were leaving hospital and wanted to project strength and vigour you wouldn't do a sneaky low thumbs up or wave at waist level.

"there is no way the ceremonial trappings of the presidency will ever regain any kind of seriousness again after this"

Don't worry. Uncle Joe will restore presidential ceremony and pomp by bombing a wedding in Pakistan.

Barron Trump still sad he hasn't got the rona, as he'd hope it would prove he has any sort of relationship with his dad ;_;

Flu season is coming up! Many people every year, sometimes over 100,000, and despite the Vaccine, die from the Flu. Are we going to close down our Country? No, we have learned to live with it, just like we are learning to live with Covid, in most populations far less lethal!!!

Learn to Live With It is like his ultimate campaign motto.

Josh in Chicago, Tuesday, 6 October 2020 13:27 (five years ago)

Learn to live with it by having a massive team of physicians who will give you every treatment possible, for free.

while my keytar gently bleeps (Ye Mad Puffin), Tuesday, 6 October 2020 13:32 (five years ago)

He's not really wrong on that though, is he? We are going to have to learn to live with strains of covid being endemic in the population, vaccine or no vaccine?

Alba, Tuesday, 6 October 2020 13:33 (five years ago)

...therefore nothing must be done to prevent its spread?

pomenitul, Tuesday, 6 October 2020 13:36 (five years ago)

No he's totally right about that. And there are only a small handful of proven tactics for doing that i.e........ WEARING MASKS

Li'l Brexit (Tracer Hand), Tuesday, 6 October 2020 13:36 (five years ago)

Yes, he's setting up a straw man because I don't think anyone is calling for shutdown now. My idea of learning to live with it is very different to his.

Alba, Tuesday, 6 October 2020 13:39 (five years ago)

He's not really wrong on that though, is he? We are going to have to learn to live with strains of covid being endemic in the population, vaccine or no vaccine?

Sadly so. Pretty much every plague in history ended that way. Eventually, pretty much everybody either died from it, had it and got better, or was immune. (I know, thanks Dr. Obvious.)

As every sane person has already said, though, that doesn't mean "don't take precautions."
