yeah I'm reading up on dexamethasone and if he really is on it (obviously I don't trust a fucking word anyone around him says) there's no way he's healthy by November

frogbs, Monday, 5 October 2020 15:17 (five years ago)

The president had wanted to be discharged from Walter Reed yesterday, but doctors weren't okay with it. So the car ride became the compromise https://t.co/bwHty5jcaD

This is making me lol as I've had so many negotiations with stroppy kids like " ok you can have one more go on the car then it's straight to bed!"

Not sure if anyone feels the same but this whole situation is so charged with extreme wishful thinking from both sides of the spectrum that I really feel averse to speculating based on any degree of hearsay flying around from any source.

Evan, Monday, 5 October 2020 16:11 (five years ago)

This is exactly how I feel

error prone wolf syndicate (Hadrian VIII), Monday, 5 October 2020 16:12 (five years ago)

isn't all wishful thinking extreme? think about it.

Well it's just making all the freeze-frame-narrative storytelling more popular than ever before.

Evan, Monday, 5 October 2020 16:19 (five years ago)

Fifty years from now, I have no doubt that historians will tout The Secret as the most important political science treatise of our time.

pomenitul, Monday, 5 October 2020 16:20 (five years ago)

I think it's safe to assume -- at the very least -- it's somewhat worse than the administration is trying to portray, just given their inability not to lie about absolutely fucking everything

but that range could be mildly worse to drastically worse and who knows?

Blues Guitar Solo Heatmap (Free Download) (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Monday, 5 October 2020 16:21 (five years ago)

"worse, maybe not too much worse, maybe a lot worse" is a reassuring place to be though. wonder when he'll crash from the steroids. wonder when it will come back like a hurricane. feeling optimistic.

seriously ^

part of me wants to put some blame on promiment daytime talk show hosts and entertainment figures et al that spent so much of the 90s and 00s endlessly promoting books like The Secret. millions of people tuning in, being told by people they respect that magical thinking is not only acceptable, it's actually the proper way to live your life. bullshit has consequences

avellano medio inglés (f. hazel), Monday, 5 October 2020 16:32 (five years ago)

the part I can't reconcile is that everyone knows this disease really gets bad from days 7-10 and the President had to be hospitalized on day 2 or 3 & they're claiming he could be discharged on day 5 despite being given all these treatments you would associate with someone who's in for a long hospital stay. like it's really fucking obvious that this administration is doing everything possible to show he's doing well and suggesting his prognosis is somehow different from every COVID-19 patient on the planet for political reasons and quite frankly that might wind up getting him killed

frogbs, Monday, 5 October 2020 16:32 (five years ago)

Live your life like a placebo effect, that’s the ticket.

meanwhile, outside of the hospital, the discourse grows louder

Early Sunday afternoon. Thirty days until the election. Donald Trump’s supporters were holding history’s loudest vigil outside Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda, where the president’s oxygen levels were being monitored as he struck boardroom poses for the camera. Fifty supporters danced on the northbound curb of Rockville Pike, elbows and knees within inches of side-view mirrors moving at 40 mph. The blare of horns competed with AC/DC and Lee Greenwood.

Men with bullhorns walked around, calling for “eight more years,” praying to God, needling journalists and the handful of protesters across the street, at the intersection of the pike and South Wood Road. A spry older woman ran up and down the two-foot-wide median as “Eye of the Tiger” played on a portable speaker. She had a white Trump flag tied around her waist and a blue Trump flag aloft in her wriggling arms. Her purse swung into the path of BMWs and minivans whooshing by. “TRUMP FOREVER,” the woman on the median shrieked. “TRUMP FOREVER. TRUMP FOREVER.”

president of my cat (Karl Malone), Monday, 5 October 2020 17:23 (five years ago)

"Born in the USA" was trending on Twitter yesterday because Trump supporters were blasting it outside the hospital. If it weren't for all the sick people in the hospital who are just trying to get some rest, I would love the idea of Trump's supporters forcing him to listen to the music of someone who's literally campaigning for his opponent.
