Here’s some KIP from that piece

Mr. Trump’s camera-friendly, morale-boosting “surprise visit,” however, may have masked the reality of his condition, and his seeming energy may have reflected the fact that he was given the steroid dexamethasone, according to medical experts. Dexamethasone has been shown to help patients who are severely ill with Covid-19, but it is typically not used in mild or moderate cases of the disease.

Like the doctors having to put a positive spin on his condition as he’s freaking out about being in there should tell you everything you need to know. He’ll likely get out earlier than he should.

It does seem like the President is singlehandedly trying to rush himself out of the hospital and will probably get his wish only to have to be rushed back later this week

A notoriously corrupt Romanian mayor who died of Covid recently got re-elected postmortem. I keep thinking about him and his ghost.

pomenitul, Monday, 5 October 2020 14:14 (five years ago)

What a time to be dead alive.

Trump’s tweet habit had been mostly quiet since he got coronavirus, with just retweets and thanks to well-wishers.

Today, @realDonaldTrump is on a spree, on guns, stock market, military taxes, voting.

Reason: @Scavino45 tested negative and is now up at Walter Reed with him. pic.twitter.com/H0n23Z5kkM

I think of the times when I've had a nasty flu and decided a week later that I was OK and ready to resume normal life, only to have my triumphant return to social life end around 7:30pm after experiencing a hard fadeout, and someone having to drive me home from the restaurant, arrange me on the couch, and turn the TV on for me as I insist I'm fine and then pass out.

avellano medio inglés (f. hazel), Monday, 5 October 2020 14:21 (five years ago)

so scavino45 is giving himself another chance to get it? why are these people so dumb

superdeep borehole (harbl), Monday, 5 October 2020 14:21 (five years ago)

lol I just saw someone call Trump Impatient Zero.

Josh in Chicago, Monday, 5 October 2020 14:22 (five years ago)

same, f. hazel. last time i got the flu i decided to go to work too soon and was getting out of breath walking around. and i'm not an obese 74 year old. i'm heartened the thought that by engaging in too much activity he's just making himself sicker.

superdeep borehole (harbl), Monday, 5 October 2020 14:23 (five years ago)

I saw people quoting those Trump tweets and the first thing that popped into my head was "The Knowledge" by Janet

shout-out to his family (DJP), Monday, 5 October 2020 14:23 (five years ago)

But I probably will give it a shot at some point for curiosity’s sake.

the doctors maybe well send him home tomorrow seems pretty well contextualized by his demands to be sent home immediately

lag∞n, Monday, 5 October 2020 14:27 (five years ago)

which is not to say he wont discharge himself lol

lag∞n, Monday, 5 October 2020 14:27 (five years ago)

sad lol but Trump is like the inverse of that Janet song. Prejudice, yes! Ignorance, yes! Bigotry, yes!

Josh in Chicago, Monday, 5 October 2020 14:28 (five years ago)

There are all different kinds of steroids. I've been on dexamethasone, but I've had cancer and back surgery.

brooklyn suicide cult (Dr Morbius), Monday, 5 October 2020 14:28 (five years ago)

maybe we will get one of those trademark "I hereby discharge myself!" tweets.

lol, thanks for having my back, LBI.

I know this ain't surprising to anyone but lol @ the President making all these bizarre garbled statements and never once mentioning his wife who he got sick

frogbs, Monday, 5 October 2020 14:41 (five years ago)

trying to predict what I'll be doing and how I hear about it when he croaks; it's a diverting passtime.

kinder, Monday, 5 October 2020 14:50 (five years ago)

Looking forward to the week or so he'll spend crashing off dexamethasone (if his case is truly moderate). If his hypomania on it is any indication, he'll be due for some depression and suicidal ideation. Fingers crossed, at any rate.

pomenitul, Monday, 5 October 2020 15:16 (five years ago)

yeah I'm reading up on dexamethasone and if he really is on it (obviously I don't trust a fucking word anyone around him says) there's no way he's healthy by November

frogbs, Monday, 5 October 2020 15:17 (five years ago)

The president had wanted to be discharged from Walter Reed yesterday, but doctors weren't okay with it. So the car ride became the compromise https://t.co/bwHty5jcaD

This is making me lol as I've had so many negotiations with stroppy kids like " ok you can have one more go on the car then it's straight to bed!"

here we go, ten in a rona (onimo), Monday, 5 October 2020 15:51 (five years ago)

Not sure if anyone feels the same but this whole situation is so charged with extreme wishful thinking from both sides of the spectrum that I really feel averse to speculating based on any degree of hearsay flying around from any source.

Evan, Monday, 5 October 2020 16:11 (five years ago)

This is exactly how I feel

error prone wolf syndicate (Hadrian VIII), Monday, 5 October 2020 16:12 (five years ago)

Fifty years from now, I have no doubt that historians will tout The Secret as the most important political science treatise of our time.

pomenitul, Monday, 5 October 2020 16:20 (five years ago)

I think it's safe to assume -- at the very least -- it's somewhat worse than the administration is trying to portray, just given their inability not to lie about absolutely fucking everything

but that range could be mildly worse to drastically worse and who knows?

Blues Guitar Solo Heatmap (Free Download) (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Monday, 5 October 2020 16:21 (five years ago)

"worse, maybe not too much worse, maybe a lot worse" is a reassuring place to be though. wonder when he'll crash from the steroids. wonder when it will come back like a hurricane. feeling optimistic.

seriously ^

part of me wants to put some blame on promiment daytime talk show hosts and entertainment figures et al that spent so much of the 90s and 00s endlessly promoting books like The Secret. millions of people tuning in, being told by people they respect that magical thinking is not only acceptable, it's actually the proper way to live your life. bullshit has consequences

One Case Leads to Another

avellano medio inglés (f. hazel), Monday, 5 October 2020 16:32 (five years ago)

the part I can't reconcile is that everyone knows this disease really gets bad from days 7-10 and the President had to be hospitalized on day 2 or 3 & they're claiming he could be discharged on day 5 despite being given all these treatments you would associate with someone who's in for a long hospital stay. like it's really fucking obvious that this administration is doing everything possible to show he's doing well and suggesting his prognosis is somehow different from every COVID-19 patient on the planet for political reasons and quite frankly that might wind up getting him killed

frogbs, Monday, 5 October 2020 16:32 (five years ago)

Live your life like a placebo effect, that’s the ticket.

pomenitul, Monday, 5 October 2020 16:33 (five years ago)
