nothing about the treatments he's had sound mild whatsoever. even if he comes through.

he's getting access to experimental treatments you and I don't have.

LaRusso Auto (Neanderthal), Monday, 5 October 2020 02:37 (five years ago)

hasn't it been suggested a lot of that is precautionary though?

sorry folks we must still assume we are on the hellworld timeline

frogbs, Monday, 5 October 2020 02:39 (five years ago)

it's been suggested that much of the treatment given is intended for people who are in critical condition and that it would be non-beneficial and possibly harmful to perform on someone as a 'precaution'.

LaRusso Auto (Neanderthal), Monday, 5 October 2020 02:40 (five years ago)

at least one of the experimental treatments is actively makes things WORSE for people who don't have already severe covid symptoms, i think. as in, he wouldn't receive it unless he was in a bad way.

I'd heard that what he's getting is the same as others but I don't know how we'd really know either way

anvil, Monday, 5 October 2020 02:41 (five years ago)

he might be requesting a bunch of weird stuff he'd heard about and they're complying even if it wouldn't usually be clinically indicated

treeship., Monday, 5 October 2020 02:44 (five years ago)

I mean there's a probably at least a 5% chance that A) they're lying about what he's taking for some reason (just as he quite obviously lied about taking hydrocholoroquine) or B) he died 15 minutes ago and we're not gonna find out until his doctor slips up and says "we were very pleased with the results of his autopsy". idk what to say. this administration has successfully gaslit me.

frogbs, Monday, 5 October 2020 02:47 (five years ago)

xp...that too...see: the tweet I posted from a doctor saying he's never in 35 years seen a patient refuse oxygen. this Dr. Nick Riveria guy they got making statements now is clearly not telling the truth here and that's obviously at the direction of the President. it's all so fucking bizarre.

frogbs, Monday, 5 October 2020 02:49 (five years ago)

Yeah the doctors at Walter Reed are technically military and are technically directly answerable to their commander in chief, so they're potentially compromised by this sociopath in a way that civilian doctors wouldn't be.

OrificeMax (Old Lunch), Monday, 5 October 2020 02:50 (five years ago)

If this commander in chief ordered me to inject him with sublethal doses from the pharmacopoeia, I would comply. But I still wouldn't let him out of the isolation ward. Hell, I'd never let him see a health care worker not in full PPE gear. Hippocratic oath should take precedence.

Sanpaku, Monday, 5 October 2020 03:03 (five years ago)

if it weren't for the fact that he isn't tweeting, i'd think the most likely explanation for this is:

https://www.nytimes.com/2020/10/04/health/trump-covid-treatment.html

Some experts raised an additional possibility: that the president is directing his own care, and demanding intense treatment despite risks he may not fully understand. The pattern even has a name: V.I.P. syndrome, which describes prominent figures who receive poor medical care because doctors are too zealous in treating them — or defer too readily to their instructions.

but combined with the no tweets thing and the weird proof of live videos, i dunno.

were i trump's doctor i would inject him with ligma

this isn’t known for sure, but yeah, the subgroup analysis of the RECOVERY trial did suggest increased mortality in people who weren’t on supplemental oxygen at randomization. the confidence interval crossed the null and subgroup analyses are generally interpreted cautiously, but there is a biologically plausible explanation (in mild/early disease antiviral therapy is most important, in later/severe, anti-inflammatories) so we generally believe this until there are better data
if he were MY patient I would not give him dex unless he were hypoxic, but the fact is that VIP patients often get *maximal*, not necessarily evidence-based or optimal, care. hence the vitamin D, famotidine, melatonin, cat’s paw, and all the other shit his quack doc conley had him on initially

k3vin k., Monday, 5 October 2020 03:20 (five years ago)

oh caek just made that second point too

k3vin k., Monday, 5 October 2020 03:22 (five years ago)

Geez, I took both Vitamin D and Melatonin tonight.

Amid speculation on treatments more appropriate for critical patients, the NYT article's sole positives were "the fact that Mr. Trump is walking on his own, and that he delivered video statements in which he was able to complete sentences without gasping for breath." Since it's quite obvious that all the released videos have mid-speech edits, things might not be so good for Asshole.

assert (MatthewK), Monday, 5 October 2020 03:40 (five years ago)

his quack doc conley

Dr. Conley is struggling to treat a panicky, rather stupid, but Maximally Important Patient he can't afford to refuse. Who also happens to be his boss. Under the circumstances, giving him a lot of basically benign stuff like famotidine, melatonin and vitamin D to address whatever symptoms Trump is complaining and whining about might just be to calm him down and make him feel well-treated and in control. They may be a load of placebos, but in this instance, might also be smart treatment.

the unappreciated charisma of cows (Aimless), Monday, 5 October 2020 03:45 (five years ago)

yeah this guy clearly not used to having to lie on someone's behalf on national television

can't believe they're still introducing new characters during the series finale

"...And the Gods Socially Distanced" (C. Grisso/McCain), Monday, 5 October 2020 03:55 (five years ago)

most apt description I've read today is "Trump has some serious end-stage Michael Jackson energy right now"

perhaps tmz will somehow break the news of him croaking

thermo each of those images features a man in black clothes against a slate-grey sky facing a bleak situation

each features strange black “floating” entities that appear to be harbingers of doom

there’s a visual congruity to them, all produced within a couple of years of each other, that i find striking

Li'l Brexit (Tracer Hand), Monday, 5 October 2020 07:30 (five years ago)

there’s also a slanty angle to each - the beach, the mic booms - that’s almost exactly the same

it’s not unthinkable that trump’s trying to give various “wealth managers” time to move money around before the markets tank on the news that he’s in for a rough ride, right?

Li'l Brexit (Tracer Hand), Monday, 5 October 2020 09:17 (five years ago)

from the nytimes article, a few details that stuck out:

The president has also been watching lots of television, even more than usual

that’s a lotta tv

Dr. Scott Gottlieb, a former commissioner of the Food and Drug Administration under Mr. Trump, said on Sunday that he had spoken to several officials who attended the Barrett event but had not been contacted by contact tracers.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Are the markets really that reliant on the US have a sociopathic man baby as president? I do not understand this at all.

FRAUDULENT STEAKS (The Cursed Return of the Dastardly Thermo Thinwall), Monday, 5 October 2020 12:17 (five years ago)

I think it's more about "uncertainty"

error prone wolf syndicate (Hadrian VIII), Monday, 5 October 2020 12:20 (five years ago)

I would lol if he died and the markets skyrocketed

shout-out to his family (DJP), Monday, 5 October 2020 12:23 (five years ago)

I mean, having a leader who starts trade wars because he isn’t getting enough attention would be textbook uncertainly. But I guess I shouldn’t bother looking for logical behaviour in the market.

Speaking as a philistine, I get the sense that the stupidest outcome is usually the likeliest. Maybe I'd make a killing if I got into stock trading.

pomenitul, Monday, 5 October 2020 13:01 (five years ago)

Trump himself famously doesn't own many stocks, relative to his other assets.

An essential element of any proper hellscape is occasionally providing the hellscape-bound just enough hope to hang themselves with.

OrificeMax (Old Lunch), Monday, 5 October 2020 13:45 (five years ago)

This is why I’ve always taken issue with Dante’s ‘abandon all hope, etc.’ The utterly hopeless are not in Hell, or at least not in its lower circles.

ok the fact that Trump and Trump alone is trying to rush himself to the WH is probably not great for his prognosis

I should stop reading this thread, I don’t want to be disappointed. :(

A few years ago I had a herniated disc in my neck and got a steroid injection about 10am. As the day wore on I felt a tremendous rush of energy and by 6pm after one beer I just about thought I could fly. I got about 2 hours of sleep that night because I could not relax even one bit.
