New from Trump’s physician... who is also a naval officer subject to the orders of the commander in chief.

the unappreciated charisma of cows (Aimless), Saturday, 3 October 2020 18:13 (five years ago)

Yeah, lot of confusion and misstatements coming from physicians, who are generally not known for confusion and misstatements. in service of an administration notorious for sewing confusion by way of misstatements.

The fact that he wouldn’t take a test before the debate must be questioned now too. Why didn’t he?

nope. they've overlooked 208,000 deaths. what's one or two more?

the unappreciated charisma of cows (Aimless), Saturday, 3 October 2020 18:17 (five years ago)

I think it’s very possible he was already positive then. That would square better with the way his symptoms have developed.

According to the official account, he had severe symptoms almost immediately after testing positive. Since this virus has a long incubation period—2 to 5 days usually, but up to 14–he was likely infected far before then. And theoretically he is getting tested often.

treeship., Saturday, 3 October 2020 18:17 (five years ago)

Just a quick reminder:

Stories you’ve forgotten about from this week:

* Brad Parscale taken into custody, under investigation for $25M+ theft from the campaign

* Trump paid just $750 in taxes (!)

* Fox paid $4M to settle accusations of sexual harassment by Don Jr.’s girlfriend’s

* Melania’s tapes

— Garrett M. Graff (@vermontgmg) October 3, 2020

And, of course:

* The debate performance, where Trump couldn’t bring himself to condemn white supremacy

This statement was originally off the record but meadows keeps fucking up going off the record by doing it live on camera etc.

NEW: Regeneron spox Hala Mirza tells @CBSNews's @amybirn that it's incorrect to call what the President has received "polyclonal antibodies."

it is very hard to understand why Trump wasn’t tested until Thursday night. Why wouldn’t he be tested as soon as Hicks got a positive test back?

Reports are that he tested positive midday on Wed. Much worse.

― error prone wolf syndicate (Hadrian VIII), Saturday, October 3, 2020

nope, not any more. now, according to Conley, he was tested Thursday night, and he just misspoke earlier. sounds like a pro!

White House incompetence on full display for the world to see!
On Monday, the entire city of DC had only 14 new cases of COVID.
Trump WH alone is now responsible for 23 new cases & rising. They had every privilege available to them to limit the spread of the virus & they blew it. pic.twitter.com/cFjPggBppW

🚨 NEW TONE ALERT 🚨

An MSNBC anchor just said President Trump, who days ago instructed white supremacists to disrupt polling places and mocked people for wearing masks, now has a "gentler tone" and his tweet was "heartfelt"!!!

I cannot believe this is happening before our eyes pic.twitter.com/pXc6PYuMXz

a fun wrinkle in all this: when Trump emerges he either has to decide to start wearing masks or keep going without, and either choice is politically catastrophic for him

— Owen Ellickson (@onlxn) October 3, 2020

Pretty much my thought and a good part of why this is so fucking hilarious

frogbs, Saturday, 3 October 2020 19:54 (five years ago)

He's obviously going to go no mask, believe he's immune, saying the virus is still a hoax etc etc

Nhex, Saturday, 3 October 2020 20:02 (five years ago)

Btw can I just mention that for the first time since Election Day 2016 it feels like we’re off the hellworld timeline, even if only for a moment. We all knew how Russiagate, Kavanaugh, and impeachment would end. It was never in doubt. But there ain’t shit they can do to protect him from from this. He will, for once in his goddamn life, have to face the direct consequences of his own actions. There’s no fucking “both sides”ing any of this. It’s a disaster any way you look at it.

frogbs, Saturday, 3 October 2020 20:02 (five years ago)

xp come on he’s not gonna be able to escape the fact that the entire nation just saw him get fucking airlifted to the hospital

Josh in Chicago, Saturday, 3 October 2020 20:05 (five years ago)

he may not be out of the woods for awhile.

i had covid, it was extremely not fun, and i was feeling the brunt of the effect for about 9 days. my wife had it for 11. neither of us had low blood oxygen. neither of us went to the hospital. we were feeling basically better after about 2 weeks.

trump is already in the hospital. it looks like his blood oxygen is low. he's fat and in his 70s. i think it's going to hit him very hard. i'd be surprised if he's able to do any public appearances at all between now and the election tbh.

the story of bolsonaro is a warning, though:

Seven television debates, featuring all the candidates, were scheduled once campaigning began. Starting in August, they exposed Bolsonaro’s disadvantage in the medium: poorly prepared and ill at ease, he was ineffectual. The more he was exposed to it, the flakier he was likely to look. In the first week of September, however, this danger was suddenly lifted. Stabbed by a mentally ill man at a provincial rally and rushed to hospital for an emergency operation, he spent the rest of the election safely in bedridden recovery, protected not only from debates or interviews, but from the demolition that Alckmin’s managers had been readying on their TV slots – sympathy for a victim who had nearly lost his life now precluded anything so tasteless.

xpost Yes but, as various people have pointed out with similar examples elsewhere, it's not like Bolsonaro spent six months beforehand denying the existence of mentally ill men with knives in the middle of a situation where hundreds of thousands had died because of them.

Ned Raggett, Saturday, 3 October 2020 20:13 (five years ago)

Another good angle for the Dems: Trump’s stupidity directly leading to a Covid outbreak in the White House has huge national security implications which could have been prevented with a 3 dollar piece of cloth

frogbs, Saturday, 3 October 2020 20:15 (five years ago)

Note to Schumer: here is what McConnell would do if situation reversed. 53 D’s, 5 or more quarantined. Keep Senate in session, bring in all Rs, replace you as leader, change committee chairs, direct Sergeant at arms to bar entry to any with Covid, reject SCt nominee. Just sayin.
