the oxygen makes sense. you’ve all read about the bizarre way that covid patients can get dangerously low blood oxygen levels that would normally indicate imminent collapse and just be chatting and instagramming normally. until the moment they need a ventilator. so it’s not necessarily incongrous that trump was walkin, talkin, etc - and that he was being rushed to the hospital.

as far as messaging goes, i feel like even if you’re a mega-maga, or ESPECIALLY then, isn’t getting covid so cavalierly just consummate stupidity? if the greatest guy is trump, then why take trump out of the equation? or from the other direction, kind of a “you may not respect yourself or others, but please respect the office mr president”

I guess the Dems do have to be careful not to imply that Trump and pals “deserve” Covid cuz 7 million people have been infected and certainly a lot of them got it through no fault of their own. And the people I know who have gotten it, even as a direct result of their own carelessness, you do still feel bad for them. The message needs to tie into the fact that other than patient zero he’s the one guy more responsible than anyone on the planet for the spread of this disease.

Lack of empathy was the platform from Him on down the GOP line. They are now on the defense. The Trump Virus is no longer figurative but literal. Hammering away and performative condolences don’t have to be mutually exclusive. His inability to tweet and deflect/project at the moment is a once in 4 years opportunity so it shouldn’t be squandered. The bonus here is that his malignant narcissism will make him implode at his inability to counterattack and that will in turn hamper his immune response and ability to get better. Now is the time to break the vicious cycle of dems forever bringing knives to gunfights.

I'm just listening to Pods Save America from yesterday so I know they at least are asking similar questions as to the why and teh when.

Even if trump really wasn’t diagnosed until thursday night, he still had the bedminster event after hicks had tested positive and gone into quarantine. So that is itself extremely negligent as he had been exposed to her on air force one.

However, it is very hard to understand why Trump wasn’t tested until Thursday night. Why wouldn’t he be tested as soon as Hicks got a positive test back?

The way news cycles work, Dems have to realize the first 48 hours of a situation like this will be consumed with piety; they'll be lucky to get even one complaint in. And from what I've seen of cable media the last 24 hours suggests Blitzer, MSNBC, et. al have ho patience with Trump's bullshit anymore. The exposure of members of the WH press pool might have something to do with it. But reporters aren't the voters Biden-Harris want to reach.

The Democrats don't have to do any messaging on this; the media - meaning the White House press corps - is doing it all on their behalf. Nobody except Fox and OANN is accepting team Trump's word on anything; they're all doing calendar math and shouting "WTF?" Probably at least in part because they know these motherfuckers have placed their (the reporters') lives in danger with their recklessness and lies. I think it’s very possible he was already positive then. That would square better with the way his symptoms have developed.

According to the official account, he had severe symptoms almost immediately after testing positive. Since this virus has a long incubation period—2 to 5 days usually, but up to 14–he was likely infected far before then. And theoretically he is getting tested often.
